For Dior Haute-Couture SS18 collection, Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior make-up, designed a strong look echoing the surrealist inspiration behind Maria Grazia Chiuri’s line, based on the character and works of Leonor Fini.

He explains: “Their artistic freedom inspired an extreme, excessive eye design. Using quotations chosen by Maria Grazia Chiuri, I also wanted to emphasise the surrealist sense of humour and taste for subversion with temporary black tattoos drawn straight onto fingers, ears and around the neck. The chosen words and messages celebrate the creative free spirit of surrealism, for example: ‘Clef’, ‘Liberté’, ‘Contradiction’ ‘L’art’ and Bal Masqué’.”

The eyes were the stars of the show (besides the clothes) and to achieve the needed drama Philips used the new matte black Diorshow On Stage Liner to draw the lasges onto the upper and lower eyelids, framing the eyes and stretching excessively towards the temple. The brows were polished with Sourcils Poudre Pencil and Diorshow Bold Brow for a beautiful finish.

To balance the artistic eye, the complexion was kept natural and glowing with the use of Diorskin Forever & Ever Wear Primer and Diorskin Forever Undercover Foundation and set with light veil of Diorskin Forever & Ever Control Loose Powder. Lip Maximizer kept the lips natural which were then given a slight hint of colour with Lip Glow in pink or matte pink.

This couture look is not for every day but there is always a chance of a dramatic occasion.
