For the Dior SS19 collection, Peter Philips, creative and image director for Dior make-up, created a natural make-up look with an emphasis on eyes.

“For this collection Maria Grazia Chiuri asked artist Sharon Eyal to choreograph the runway show, and have the dancers from her company participate. This aesthetic choice prompted me to create a pure, natural make-up look, where emphasis was placed only on the eyes. And for a few of the models I also took inspiration from Sharon Eyal’s unusual eye make-up.”

Here, Philips talk us through each step to recreate this artistic, yet natural look at home.

Eyes

For this collection, he created two looks. “Eyes were made-up with a line of Diorshow Khôl in black, applied to the waterline of the lower lash line, but which also ran over a bit in some places. This intentionally blurry, imperfect line created an impression of make-up that has been lived in. I also defined the eyebrows without accentuating them too much, with Diorshow Brow Styler and Diorshow Bold Brow.”

A second look, inspired by Sharon Eyal’s own make-up, is described by Philips as “a design drawn on the temples using broad strokes of Diorshow Pro Liner Waterproof in black and anthracite. This decorative ‘choreography’ of the face is a creative gesture.”

Complexion

“Complexions looked pure and natural in Diorskin Forever & Ever Wear Primer, then Diorskin Backstage Face & Body Foundation followed by a corrective touch of Diorskin undercover concealer. I created a matte finish for the whole look with a dusting of Diorskin Forever & Ever Control Loose powder.”

Lips

Lips were kept natural natural and were prepped with Lip Sugar Scrub then heightened with Lip Maximizer for a touch of very discreet shine.

Nails and Hair

He used Dior Vernis N°108 Muguet while the hair was wrapped around the head for a smooth dancer-like result.
