New York Fashion Week : the AW17 beauty looks

Natalie Hanson   |   21-02-2017

New York Fashion Week’s beauty was pared back and natural. Complexions were flawless and smooth with full and natural eyebrows. There were occasional pops of colour, as seen at Oscar de la Renta and Jason Wu, but for the most part colours were kept on the light end of the spectrum from nudes to whites.

Below we round up the beauty looks from some of the key shows, from the rosy cheeked girls at Proenza Schouler to the sultry earth tones at Michael Kors.

ALEXANDER WANG BEAUTY

At Alexander Wang the models were rock-chick cool. They had bare, very flawless skin and the eyes were made a feature with kohl-lining, some more accentuated than others. There was a subtle sheen on the lips in a natural colour.

ALTUZARRA BEAUTY

Altuzarra girls were pretty and rosy. Eyelashes were left bare or sometimes with the tiniest dusting of soft black mascara. White eye-liner was used along the lower lash line to make the eyes pop. Some models had soft pink eyeshadow and rosy pink blusher was dusted onto the apples of the cheeks for a healthy glow. Brows were left full and natural with white combed through to lighten and give an ethereal effect. Lips were nude with a very natural finish and a soft sheen.

JASON WU BEAUTY

Jason Wu brought back the 80s with blue mascara applied to top and bottom lashes. Variations of red lips were played with throughout; some were shiny, some matt, some red toned and some orange toned. Some lips were even two toned; top lip red and bottom lip orange, a hard look to pull off away from the catwalk. Brows were full and natural and skin was smooth and flawless with natural freckles allowed to show through.

MARC JACOBS BEAUTY

The looks varied at Marc Jacobs, tailored for each model’s look. There was subtle colour applied to the cheeks and for the most part skin was simple and bare, but some models had faux freckles applied. Brows were full and natural in most cases but a few had bleached blond eyebrows for a very fashion forward look. Eyelids were bare and a few girls sported a bolder, kohl smoked eye. Lips were subtley frosted with pink and lashes were minimally swiped with black or clear mascara. In a fun detail, some models were spotted with dark burgundy nails with lettering to spell out ‘MARC JACOBS’ applied.

MICHAEL KORS BEAUTY

The make up at Michael Kors was all warm brown earth tones. Brown mascara and soft brown shadow lined the eyes, giving a sultry yet natural look. Skin was kept natural and warm colouration was given to the cheeks. Clear lip balm made the lips look moisturised, fresh and gave a subtle shine.

NARCISO RODRIGUEZ BEAUTY

Narciso Rodriguez girls had healthy pink cheeks, bare eyelids and eyes very subtly edged with pink-beige toned shadow. Eyelashes were short with a minimal touch of mascara. Lips were left bare with a touch of moisture provided by lip balm.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA BEAUTY

At Oscar de la Renta we saw a bolder more colourful look. All eyes were lined across the top lash with thick hot pink. The rest of lid was filled in with either blue, purple or turquoise making for a modern colour clash. The rest of face was left very natural, with just a subtle colour on the cheeks and lips in their own natural tone.

PROENZA SCHOULER BEAUTY

Proenza Schouler models had subtly white lined eyes giving a super fresh and angelic look. Lips had a white tinge added and most had a moisturised sheen. Eyelashes were left bare, and skin was flawless and pure with soft natural brows.

VICTORIA BECKHAM BEAUTY

At Victoria Beckham, a radiant glowing sheen was applied to the model’s skin. Lips were bare save for a slick of moisturising balm. A subtle lining of the eyes in flesh tone served to bring out the colour of the model’s eyes. A minimal touch of mascara was applied in soft black to frame the eyes in a natural way.
