Below, we get to know the label, Hürgel’s design process and the current state of the fashion scene in Turkey.

How is being Turkey-based inspire your collections?

Istanbul is literally a bridge between the East and the West. You can’t miss a detail in art, history and even  cuisine to be inspired. I am lucky to be based in Istanbul.

What has been the biggest challenge of starting your own label?

I have been committed to work with linen which has been a challenge when starting my own label. Also the biggest challenge is not creating or designing, but facing the difficulties from scratch to the end of the production process. I am lucky to have such good colleagues in my team.

What is your design process?

I start with inspiration and mood board and then comes in fabric research and details in styles.

How would you describe the fashion scene in Turkey?

As competitive as any fashion scene in other countries. There are many talented Turkish  designers who have been internationally successful. I highly appreciate many local designers to be discovered with such unique and creative ideas.

Designer Gül Hürgel.

Any designers from the region that you’re loving at the moment?

Sanayii, Tohum Jewellry and Mehry Mu.

Describe your recent collection in one sentence.

It is a collection of dresses that puts you in a good mood immediately.

What is you dream travel destination and what are you packing?

My dream travel destination is not far indeed. It is  Bozburun peninsula on south-west of Turkey. I am packing a GH strawberry print peasant dress with my Mehry Mu bag and Tohum sea shell jewellery.

Describe the view from your window?

A room with a view of roses, jasmines and lavender.
