Kris Van Assche presents his first capsule collection for Berluti since joining the house as their Creative Director in April this year.

 

The range of pieces is a preview of what we can expect from the designer during his debut runway show in January 2019. The focus is on a contemporary wardrobe for men, something that than Van Assche knows well from his years at Dior Homme. He’s pushing the historical brand, with roots dating back 1895, into the future with a new approach to silhouettes, sportswear (note the sneakers) and sharp tailoring.

 

He is also reinventing the classics like the ‘Alessandro’ oxford that now feature a thicker leather sole, while the brand’s traditionally hand-worked patina signature is developed in a dual blue and red colourway, echoed in bags. The archival ‘Andy’ loafer – named after Warhol – is elevated on a creeper sole, and the ‘Scritto’, an eighteenth century manuscript motif inherent to Berluti, features in a graphic print on casualwear and bags.

 

A nod to the future, the new ‘Berluti 1895 Paris’ signature – unveiled in Kris Van Assche’s first campaign for the house in June – is emblazoned on a jacket, sweatshirt and t-shirt.

 

It’s a new, trendier era at the iconic house.
