1970’s Simplicity at Prada’s Fall 2017 Show

“My inspirations are so many and so complex that to summarize is impossible. But I would say that the main sentiment that I had is going from bigness to smallness; from the big deal of the installation—big architecture and construction—the big deal of fashion, the big deal of art, the big deal of everything. And to go opposite. More human, more simple, more real . . . the desire for reality, humanity, and simpleness” said Miuccia Prada backstage.

Sunday’s Prada show was a 1970’s revival, full of floral embroidery, angora sweaters, suede suiting, aviator glasses and plenty of corduroy. Houndstooth jackets, leather pants and accessories featured all shades of brown, enhancing the retro feel. Fur was also a surprise feature, with models strutting down the runway in fur slippers, coats and collars, adding to Mrs Prada’s playful use of textures within this collection. Layering was also a continuing feature, with v-neck sweaters worn over dress shirts and plenty of chunky and vibrant high waisted belts. A very simple and understated, yet luxuriously retro collection from Miuccia Prada.
