STATEMENT KNITWEAR

In Spring the must-have piece was the slogan tee; so naturally for Autumn we move to the slogan knit.

Many designers chose to make a statement with their knitwear on the catwalks, whether it be with words or graphics. It added a playful and, at times, political edge to the shows.

Raf Simons and Dolce & Gabbana both lead the charge, sending multiple intarsia knit pieces down the runway. Raf Simons chose slogans in a tribute to New York, whereas Dolce & Gabbana went down the pictoral route with both lions and hares making an appearance.

Fendi kept things simple with one word statements including ‘love’ and ‘yellow.’ Dior Homme mixed pictures and words, claiming ‘they should just let us rave.’

Animal motifs are a recurring theme at Lanvin this piece has an eye-catching black koi carp intarsia.

Saint Laurent transforms a classic crew-neck sweater here with a playful nod to Steven Spielberg’s ‘Jaws.’

This J.W. Anderson merino wool sweater adds a fun edge to a casual outfit with its bold stripe design and alien motif.

Givenchy’s star motif has become synonymous with the brand’s streetwear offerings. Here it gives an individual twist to an otherwise plain sweater, for those who don’t want to go too bold with this look.

The depiction of animals has been key to all of Gucci’s latest collections. For this piece, an intricately embroidered tiger is appliquéd to the front alongside the bold slogan.

This Kenzo jumper is decorated with a quirky hotdog man to give a fun look, great for adding a playful slant to weekend outfits.
