Where to go on Savile Row

While Savile Row has been the world’s byword for bespoke tailoring for hundreds of years, not every shop offers the same items. Here’s where to get what you’re looking for…

Best for a made to measure suit – Richard James

The first of a revival wave of British tailoring in the 1990s, Richard James, has updated Savile Row’s classic style for a more modern generation. If you don’t have the time or cash for bespoke, the made to measure suits here are still a knock out.

Best for royalty – Gieves & Hawkes

Between the two former companies which are now one, there’s 450 years of tailoring history here, and the company has been responsible for the royal family’s military uniforms for ten generations. www.gievesandhawkes.com

Best for bespoke suits – Anderson & Sheppard

Anderson & Sheppard still make suits the same way they have done for over 100 years, everything is done by hand and customers are measured 27 times to get the fit perfectly right. These measurements (and the patterns) and then kept in the store until you return. Because you will. A lifelong investment. www.anderson-sheppard.co.uk
