Christopher Bailey's SS18 collection for Burberry.
As a standing ovation greeted Christopher Bailey at the end of his final show for Burberry, there was a feeling of joy rather than sadness from seeing a vibrant, rainbow bright collection that captured the past, present and the future.
There wasn’t just one Burberry girl or boy that Bailey designed his farewell collection for, it was a tribute to individuality and inclusiveness with him successfully bringing together his greatest hits over the last 17 years. There were iconic trenchcoats along with shearling jackets, silk evening dresses and full skirts that spoke of relaxed glamour. Streetwear elements were seen in orange tracksuits, sweatshirts, windbreakers and not forgetting the signature Burberry check with a rainbow filter running through it.
New bags were introduced including The Link featuring the ‘1983 check’ trimmed in patent leather or punched with metal grommets. It seems the belt bag trend isn’t going anywhere and at Burberry we have a contrast leather belted tote for men and women. The Grommet detail sac has an oversized shape, in tactile leather with metal grommets.
Cara Delevingne, discovered by Bailey over seven years ago, closed the show and led the finale as models walked under a spectrum of rainbow laser lights. It was a true celebration of British fashion, diversity and Bailey’s creativity.
