British blogger Habiba Da Silva has decided to go against the fashion grain and create a line of inclusive hijabs to suit all skin tones. The Line is called SKIN and currently features four shades, with talks of extending the range. “This was inspired by many things. First, for my passion for cultures and traditions, secondly to break up the trend of having brands with clothing dressed on only lighter skinned models. I wanted something for everyone: men, women; from every background,” she wrote on her website.

Inspired by the idea of marriage, De Silva continued to explain the foundations of her range: “The theme of the collection plays around the idea of marriage; not necessarily as a bond between a man and a woman, rather as a bond between people from different backgrounds and cultures…I wanted something for everyone: men, women; from every background.” The marital inspiration continues through to the names of the four shades of the collection. The darkest colour is called ‘Aure,’ the Hausa word for marriage followed by “Aroosadda,” which is Somali for “bride”; “Rukhasti,” which means “sending off” in Urdu, and the lightest shade “Zaffeh,” which is Arabic for “wedding march”.
