PARIS FASHION WEEK AW17: LOEWE

On March 1st, Creative Director, John Anderson launched a poster campaign featuring Gisele Bundchen in the lead up to his Fall 2017 show. The two images of the supermodel, shot by Steven Meisel previewed a look from today’s collection and was seen all over Paris. A campaign of this level was a first for the brand and created much anticipation for today’s show.

The venue was dark and dramatic, with people commenting on it being one the darkest runways they had seen. The entire space was black, with just two thin strips of lighting on the ceiling and several flower arrangements for a pop of colour. The black, carpeted runway allowed the clothes to do all the talking.

As with John Anderson’s past Loewe collections, there is an emphasis on femininity and the chic, affluent woman. This collection continued along that theme, with plenty of stunning dresses, featuring luxurious silk and leather fabrics teamed with dainty strappy sandals, featuring embellished bows. Dresses ranged from slinky to floaty and came in an abundance of patterns and textures such as polka dots, stripes, checks and metallics. There was even a hint of Orientalism which was timed perfectly by the accompanied bell chimes. Fabrics were also contrasted with lace inserts and various tartan and silk patterned pieces were delicate and sheer.

Exaggerated details were a common theme, with puffy sleeves, oversized accessories and gathered hemlines all making a statement down the runway. We particularly loved the 70’s inspired dress, featuring a metallic, pleated sleeve, with a plunging neckline and contrasting leather hemline.

Outerwear consisted of statement fur overcoats, peplum style, checked jackets and tailored pieces. Accessories featured oversized bucket and tote bags, the brand’s latest puzzle bag and oversized hats, some of which were fashioned and worn in the style of a cowboy hat with the brand’s name emblazoned across it.

John Anderson has again, proven that he can successfully juggle two brands and has highlighted Loewe’s rightful place amongst the big designers at Paris Fashion Week.
