Oscar Nominees’ Red Carpet Style: Viola Davis

This weekend, the 89th Academy Awards will take place and the red carpet will be filled with our favourite Hollywood stars, all dressed to impress. As always, the Oscar nominees are a particular focus, not just for their potential accolade but also for what they will be fashioning down the red carpet.

Viola Davis is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Fences starring alongside Denzel Washington. Davis has honed her red carpet look over the years into a signature style. She is not afraid of colour and bold brights complement her skin tone perfectly. She tends to go for block colours rather than prints or over the top embellishments. Viola knows what her best features are and she’s not afraid to showcase her beautifully toned arms and sculptural shoulders. We’ve picked some of our favourite looks below.

VIOLA DAVIS 1

From left to right: In Emilio Pucci at the 2012 Golden Globes, in Vera Wang at the 2012 Oscars, in Valentino at the 2012 BAFTAs.

VIOLA DAVIS 2

From left to right: In Donna Karen Atelier at the 2015 Golden Globes, in Zac Posen at the 2015 Oscars, in Monique Lhuillier at the 2013 SAG Awards.

There are so many looks from the SS17 Couture shows that Viola could pull off; we’ve selected a few below that would be a great fit for her:

From left to right: Armani Privé SS17 Couture, Christian Dior SS17 Couture, Atelier Versace SS17 Couture.

Viola would look stunning in the orange shade that dominated the Armani Privé runway. Metallics would be a good choice and this Christian Dior gown would allow her to show off her shoulders and arms. She also really likes the one-shouldered look so this stunning Atelier Versace gown would be perfect.
