Oscar nominees’ red carpet style: Meryl Streep

This weekend, the 89th Academy Awards will take place and the red carpet will be filled with our favourite Hollywood stars, all dressed to impress. As always, the Oscar nominees are a particular focus, not just for their potential accolade but also for what they will be fashioning down the red carpet.

Meryl Streep is nominated in the Best Actress category for her role in Florence Foster Jenkins. This is her record-breaking 20th nomination at the Oscars, meaning she is no stranger to the red carpet. Meryl is a woman who knows what works for her; her style is always timelessly elegant. When she finds a designer that she feels comfortable with she will tend to wear several of their creations; Lanvin appears to be a particular favourite. However, if the dress works for her she is also not afraid to showcase lesser know designers. We’ve selected some of our favourite looks below:

Meryl always tends to wear styles that accentuate her waist; by using belts to cinch in looser styles, choosing a deep V neckline to draw the eye down or even breaking the usual red carpet dress tradition and selecting a chic two piece outfit instead. She sticks to block colours most of the time, going easy on the embellishment in favour of luxe flowing materials. She’s also partial to a strong ’80’s style shoulder and has worn suit jackets several times. Below, we’ve selected a few pieces from SS17 Couture that we think Meryl would look fantastic in.

This Valentino jacket and trousers would be the perfect chic suit for Meryl if styled with a non-sheer shirt underneath. For a more structured look, this Ralph & Russo jacket would give her an elegant hourglass shape. If she’s looking for something a little more flamboyant to celebrate this special Oscars for her, this light blue Elie Saab creation is extra special and yet still modest and sophisticated.
