Trend Roundup: Paris Fashion Week SS18

Diana Bell-Heather   |   04-10-2017

Time to rest your Jimmy Choo wearing feet and look back at some of the top trends that dominated Paris Fashion Week.

It might be hard to fathom that a humble pair of shorts was spotted as one of the biggest must haves for SS18. Various cuts, styles and finishes marched down the runways at Saint Laurent, Isabel Marant and Louis Vuitton. Anthony Vaccarello gave us tough leather numbers styled with plunge neck blousons, while Naomi Campbell elegantly rocked a pair of cycle shorts to close Off-White show. For her Chloe debut, Natacha Ramsay-Levi sent out options in mint, khaki, and caramel worn with satin tops and lace up heels.

The next heavy hitter was transparency and a clear (pun intended) champion of this trend was Chanel with Karl Lagerfeld’s models wearing perplex anoraks, hats, gloves and boots. Valentino also presented plastic jackets while the rest of designers continued with romantic sheer ensembles.

Others embraced wild texture in a form of fringing, tassels, chains, embroidery and embellishment. The most romantic frills can be found at Giambattista Valli while Alexander McQueen gave us a lesson in 3D floral stitching.

Tailoring always has a place among the style savvy and for next summer, take a cue from Acne Studios or Celine and choose a more relaxed fit with elongated sleeves or dropped shoulders. Want a more lady-like cut? Look to Clare Waight Keller’s collection for Givenchy.
