Amal Al Raisi’s SS19 collection draws inspiration from Al Baleed, a UNESCO world heritage site in Oman that used to serve as a trading hub between the West and the Far East.

Taking that theme in account, the designer merged the traditional craftsmanship of Oman and fused them with Western wearability. She created unique prints to outline the port’s historic story featuring shapes of the continents to enhance the nautical backdrop, while colours such as ‘spiced apple’ depict the desert and blend beautifully with various hues of green and feminine rose.

To illustrate the workings of this old port, Al Raisi worked with elements derived from different countries such as India, China and Persia. Long flowy kaftans and skirts made from soft fabrics blended with these symbolic elements portray the culture of Oman and its relationship with the rest of the world.

The desert rose, merchant scale and a Chinese coin from the Tang Dynasty area few of the elements that symbolizes her inspiration, while her intricate gold and green sequins on kaftans add a touch of luxury.

Al Raisi delivers another collection that once again strives to put Oman on a fashion map in an elegant and fresh way.
