Team A&E are back with a weekly In Focus feature on regional designers we are rating at the moment, and today it’s all about the Dubai-based designer Faissal El-Malak.

Brought up between Montreal Canada and Doha Qatar, he trained as a fashion designer in Paris’ Atelier Chardon Savard and recently moved back to the Gulf, finally settling in Dubai in September 2014.

El-Malak has been working on developing his contemporary Middle Eastern design identity by bridging traditional artisan work with modern flair – to tell the story of the region through clothes. As a result he offers pieces that celebrate textiles, have an undone silhouettes that make them versatile and easy to wear.

For AW18 collection, he focused on modern opulence through his use of shape, colours and textures. Egyptian geometric patterns and handwoven jacquards help translate of travel and adventures beyond the home comforts.
