Over the last few seasons, high-fashion and streetwear have been crossing paths more often and as a result there’s been a surge in labels that not only look good on the streets, but also on the runway.
Think Off-White, Nasir Mazhar and Kanye West Yeezy as well as streetwear inspired pieces from designers like Givenchy, Vetments and Louis Vuitton. This is not a trend but an ever evolving personality. It has stepped away from being labeled ‘streetwear’ and became part of ‘fashion’ on a grand scale.
The latest brand that came across our radar is Wanda Nylon. The French designer challenges us to think differently about luxury fashion with her take on streetwear that uses surprising fabrics and unusual proportions.
For AW17 we saw asymmetrical shapes, houndstooth print mixed with colourful check, white piping on dresses and trousers as well as a disco worthy silver silk-blend dress with voluminous balloon sleeves. We also noted her models showcase the beret, which is fast proving to be the hat of this season.
