NEW YORK FASHION WEEK AW17: JEREMY SCOTT

The fun loving, playful designer, Jeremy Scott certainly made an impression as he unveiled his Autumn/Winter 2017 Ready-To-Wear collection. This time, his collection was more of an irate political statement, geared towards America’s latest presidential election. Backstage, Jeremy Scott stated that his collection also pertained to idolism and modern worship and how as a nation, we have become obsessed with celebrity culture. This concept kicked off the show with Gigi Hadid sporting a pair of flared velvet trousers, with Jesus’ face emblazoned across both legs.

As the show progressed, so did the icons, from Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe, to Michael Jackson. Models paraded down the fur runway in bedazzled leather, chiffon, velvet and polka dots. Cartoon animals with witty slogans and hippy patchwork leather and fishnets all contributed to Scott’s idea of fun and freedom. His love of celebrities was made evident by his choice of super star models, such as Gigi, Jasmine, Stella, Elsa, Romee and not to mention the front row attendees, such as Kylie Jenner and Debbie Harry.

A vibrant and playful collection that successfully pokes fun at our pop cultural obsessions and emphasises Scott’s obsession with celebrities and personal liberation.
