NYFW FW18: Day Three Roundup

Diana Bell-Heather   |   11-02-2018

NYFW Day Three celebrated a milestone, took us into space and showcased collection made for strong women of today.

Philipp Plein is not a minimalist so for this round of NYFW he chose a giant spaceship to deliver model Irina Shayk to a snowy runway alongside a giant transformer – all staged in an industrial space in Brooklyn. The collection reflected the wintery setting with an array of ski-suits, fluffy jackets and sporty puffer coats all styled with a mix of furry and glittery boots.

Christian Siriano marked 10 years in business with a dazzling collection fit for the red carpet with Ashley Graham walking for the first time for the designer. The milestone celebration saw 72 jaw-dropping looks including shimmering dresses and metallic tailoring; opulent velvet and embroidery ; elegant gowns adorned in embellishment or tulle mixed with edgier mini cuts and patent leather.

Emphasis on feminism dictated the collection at Jonathan Simkhai with 20’s inspiration reimagined for today’s modern woman who wants to feel feminine yet powerful. Lace trim wool trousers, corseted silhouettes and sensual slip dresses in burgundy and neutral hues felt fresh and wearable.

Dion Lee also delivered a strong uniform for next season with his collection taking inspiration from a vintage flight suit along with leather harnesses and soft-to-the-touch knitwear. The pieces didn’t feel overdone, on contrary they are the kind of items you will keep in your wardrobe season after season.
