Jeremy Scott paraded another Vegas-inspired collection in LA for Resort ’18 Moschino. But unlike for FW17, this iteration exuded more of the optimism of Americana, leaving a hopeful aftertaste.
The collection was inspired by the idea of a road trip from LA to Las Vegas; a journey between two cities made for dreamers, connected by open expanses of seemingly never-ending highway. However, in-between the two points hides rich cultural references; prairie girls, denim clad Malboro men, market stalls selling Navajo wares and leather clad bikers cruising cross country. Small town American life punctuating the journey between two of the glitziest cities the USA has to offer.
As a result, the cowboys and bikers of Scotts’s show were of the obvious and maximalist variety. Suits were bedazzled, and flame motfis licked up the front of trousers and tops. The prairie girls sported sheer fabric on their dresses and there were, of course, the Las Vegas showgirl bustiers complete with bunny ears. Scott embraced American cheese in this collection in a patriotic, obvious and fun way.
