The Resort collections’ love affair with LA continued with Donatella Versace’s show. Versace visits the city a lot and used its sunny disposition as a source of inspiration for her and her team. However, a Versace collection is not a Versace collection without the undertones of sultry-glamour. So, this aesthetic mixed with casual LA vibes made for an interesting and individual take on Cali style.
There were tailored power suits of the downtown financial district, made ‘evening’ by lace trims and thigh high splits of the skirt. Studded jackets, pleated skirts and accessories with tough-girl black boots hinted at rock culture. Colour played a big role, in the panelled patchwork prints and most notably in the multi-coloured knitwear dresses with their vibrant colour combinations.
Embroidered palm trees, peacock feathers and jungle flora added a good dose of fun to denim, shirts and jackets. But the collection never strayed too far from its glamorous roots with expert draping adding interest to dresses and more structured silhouettes offering the Hollywood starlet smarter options in fresh pastels.
