George and Amal Clooney step up for migrant children separated at the border by donating US $100,000 through their foundation to the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights.
The Clooney Foundation for Justice are supporting over 2000 migrant children who have been separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. In a statement, Beirut-born human right attorney Amal said:
“At some point in the future our children will ask us: is it true, did our country really take babies from their parents and put them in detention centers? And when we answer yes, they’ll ask us what we did about it. What we said. Where we stood. We can’t change this administration’s policy, but we can help defend the victims of it.”
Yesterday, President Donald Trump has signed executive order promising to “keep families together” in migrant detentions. His original “zero tolerance” policy was met with international fury. and although the new order protects families, we are still unsure what will happen to those who have already been separated.
