The Happy Hearts Giving Campaign was launched in 2014 by Jumana Al Darwish, co-founder of The Happy Box. For every Happy Box purchased, Happy Hearts donate a box to a child in need. Last year, Happy Hearts have distributed Happy Boxes among disadvantaged children at a shelter in Nepal, and orphaned children at a centre in Jordan. Jumana said: “I have spent my whole life wanting to give back to communities in need, influenced as I was from such a young age by my father’s work in the UN and pursuing a career as an adult working in philanthropy for various governments and non-profit organisations. I finally feel complete now that we’ve established Happy Hearts.”

Jumana teamed up with TV personality and Middle East beauty expert Joelle Mardinian, in December 2015, for a special charity project to spread happiness among disadvantaged Jordanian and Syrian Makanai children living as refugees. Through partnering with the Jordanian chapter of Save the Children Jordan, and under the sponsorship of leading property developer The First Group, Jumana and Joelle headed to Amman for three days and took hundreds of customised Happy Boxes (kits stocked full of elementary school supplies and activities) with them, to deliver to children at the Zaatari Refugee Camp, children studying at an informal education centre run by Save the Children Jordan and in partnership with UNICEF under the Makani initiative that provides informal education for children in need, and children at the Queen Rania Family and Children Centre (QRFCC).

A total of 1,600 boxes were given to disadvantaged children across Jordan. Joelle Mardinian said: “It is a dream come true for us to have teamed up with such wonderful partners in order to bring a moment of happiness to the lives of such precious children,”

The Happy Box is an award-winning educational and social enterprise which aims to spread happiness among families across the UAE. Focused on children aged three to 11, each Happy Box is personalised and customised according to the child’s age and includes eight activities and a book surrounding a specific theme which changes each month, as they are monthly box donations. All the materials required to complete the activities are included (even glue or scissors) and the instructions are in both English and Arabic. Every activity is educational yet fun and engaging, promoting cognitive development, creativity and both fine and gross motor skills.

They have also launched monthly Happy Boxes for grown-ups.  The Happy Box have exclusively teamed up with the Lucky Dip Club, a London-based brand that creates boxes full of unique, quirky and exceptionally designed surprises to inspire and encourage adults to celebrate life.
