Since 2010, Sole was formed as a communication platform for all the latest and relevant news in footwear, fashion, design and alternative culture in the Middle East. Its aim is to inspire and encourage growth within the design and progressive fashion sector in the region.

Sole announces its debut event of 2016, with the support of Bloomingdales Dubai, Cadillac, and Dubai Design District (d3). Sole plays host to iconic Bronx-born hip-hop photographer Lisa Leone, in a celebration of her life and work. The exhibition at Dubai Design District, starts from March 22nd until April 5th. There will be a public sale of Lisa Leone’s editioned works and during the launch opening night a special guest performance from hip-hop pioneers The Beatnuts.

There will be a hip-hop history showcase with an unveiling of  a range of never-seen-before archive photography from the legendary photographer, as well as standout selects from her notorious book, Here I Am. The book features photos of her music, dance, art and fashion work, from Nas in the first studio recordings for what would become Illmatic to Snoop on the set of his first video, from ingénue Debi Mazar hanging on the stoops of the West Village to Grandmaster Flash at a RockSteadyreunion. Leone’s photographs open portals to the sounds, places and, most importantly, the people who forged and continue to influence the energy that is hip-hop. This spring, with a soundtrack set by hip-hop pioneers The Beatnuts, Lisa brings that portal to Dubai courtesy of Sole.

Lisa Leone said: “I’m very excited about coming back to Dubai. On my last trip, although short, I could really feel the enthusiasm and passion for a culture so close to my heart. The artists I met and photographed were so open and warm, I’m looking forward to my return.”

Lisa Leone exhibition and Sole launches at 7.30pm – 11pm on March 22nd. Entry is free and open to all. The exhibition runs daily thereafter from March 23rd – April 5th, 10:30 am – 6pm, (closed on Fridays).

Address: Building 07, Design Quarter, Dubai Design District, Dubai.
