These days, luxe activewear is a booming market. Stella McCartney’s impressive technological and stylish designs make it cut above the rest in the world of athleisure. Her collections encompass everything from leggings to bombers to swimwear. It’s also eco-friendly and 38 per cent of the Adidas collection is sustainable. Many of the running leggings were made with recycled polyester and there are engineered, zero-waste and organic pieces too.

For Spring ’17, Adidas and McCartney went  to LA to showcase their latest collab. 3Labs is a giant show space in Culver City. It was transformed into huge exhibition focusing on five spaces, each one dedicated to a particular workout. First, was “Training,” – four women were doing an intense Pound workout, a cardio exercise inspired by playing the drums. In the next space, models were in colourful swimsuits doing a few laps in the pool. A cycling room had models in reflective outfits pedalling on indoor bikes. Next door a group of models were doing a choreographed treadmill run. They wore leggings, featherlight windbreakers and tops with Adidas’s Boost technology, which features thousands of capsules that release stored energy with each movement. The final group of models were “recovering” with paddleboard yoga, led by renowned yogi Chelsey Korus.

The designer told Vogue after the show: “Today was a reflection of what I think is the reality of the life we live. We’re all doing a variety of sports, and it’s important to mix it up. I know when I do the same workout over and over, I get bored, and my body gets accustomed to it, so I don’t see results. I wanted to show a variety of sports today, slightly inspired by a triathlon, and to show the clothes working.”

It’s a bold striking collection with ribbed-knit leggings in hues of aqua, purple and lemon yellow. A highlight was a neoprene bomber jacket came in hot pink. Stella added: “There’s never been a compromise between what I do in fashion and what I bring to this collaboration. I would never want to sacrifice style for sport, and we all fall back on our black workout gear, because it hides our sweat and the things we don’t want to highlight. But we have all of that in our closets already. So I want to encourage new palettes and variety in your sportswear. I think it’s hard to motivate yourself to go work out, and women don’t have enough time for it. So I always start a collection with the feeling that I want to make this a bit easier and more fun for women.”
