Known for her flowing gowns and dream wedding dresses, Vera Wang is taking a sportier route by dressing the cheerleading squad for the upcoming Super Bowl in the US.
The Philadelphia Eagles’ cheerleaders will be kitted out in the designs by Wang for the game today that will be watched by millions across the globe – not a daunting prospect at all. You’d think the nerves will be getting the best of the designer but she was a competitive skater before diving into fashion and has previously created clothes for other leading athletes.
“I know that my own years of training on ice and off, made me painfully aware of the need for comfort, ease, and stretch. Weight also becomes a factor when one has to perform for an extended period of time and a wide range of motion. Each sport is different and technical but for me all factors have to be taken into consideration,” she said.
With one of the biggest sporting events just a few hours away along with a half-time show lead by Justin Timberlake, we are sure Wang’s designs will fit the occasion.
