Aladdin Like You’ve Never Seen It Before

One of the classic Disney animations is getting a makeover and we just got our first peek at the live action film.

Aladdin is the next childhood favourite to get a remake by a stellar British director Guy Ritchie and an impressive cast including Egyptian actor Mena Massoud who takes on the lead role of a ‘street rat’ navigating the alleyways of Agrabah before falling in love with a beautiful Princess Jasmine, played by Naomi Scott.

The teaser opens up with a birds eye view of the desert dunes as a familiar theme tune Arabian Nights plays over the top. Then we see parrot Iago, who is Jafar’s sidekick, sweep into the scene as the Cave of Wonders appears in a shape of a lion’s head. This is where Aladdin first discovers the magic lamp and the Genie, a role played brilliantly by the late Robin Williams in the 1992 film, re-imagined by Will Smith in the latest version.

Apart from giving a classic tale a fresh spin, this production of Aladdin will also see a brand new character. Described as Princess Jasmine’s handmaiden and friend, Nasim Pedrad will be playing Mara in the movie due for release in May next year.
