(Professional Overseas Women Empowerment, Recognition and Equality Day) held at Conrad Hotel, Dubai, earlier this year.

The Egyptian model talks about three of the best reasons why wearing an abaya or hijab, being modern and staying modest is the new trend in society – not only in the Middle East but also all over the world.  She said: “From humongous brands launching global fashion campaigns to numerous celebrities, including Western social influencers, wearing an abaya and choosing hijab fashion, it is undeniable that being modest is the latest fashion trend.”

Three reasons for the revolution of abaya fashion:

 Secret is the new sexy

Decency is always sexy. Unlock the imagination. Hiding something for the creativity of the beholder is a brilliant strategy to fuse sexiness with beauty. Revealing everything all the time might bore the fashion world.

Confidence in comfort

Whether you choose cotton for the day or silk at night, abayas are dresses that you can wear for any occasion without the dilemma of being underdressed or overdressed. No matter what size or shape you are, abayas will celebrate the power and confidence of being a woman.

Respecting the culture

The UAE and the Muslim community have a very rich culture, engraved and embossed in the hearts of many women and passed on to different generations. From plain black to dazzling hues and colour palettes, the abayas have grown into a metamorphosis of passionate evolution yet maintaining the respect for the heritage of Muslim traditions.
