Gucci’s new limited-edition impressionistic book ‘Epiphany’

  |   01-05-2016

Gucci has created a special limited-edition book called Epiphany, created by photographer Ari Marcopoulos.  Epiphany features images captured during a shoot that took place in Milan to document the pre-fall 2016 women’s and men’s collections designed by Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele.

The stylish book will come inserted in a bubble wrap envelope with a holographic Gucci snake sticker on the front and a black silk screen-printed Gucci logo on the back. The cover of the book will feature a transparent pocket in which a photograph will be housed. This photograph, an image created by Marcopoulos at the shoot, will be printed as a 15cm x 10cm postcard. There are 13 different images that have been chosen for inclusion in the front cover pockets, and these will be assigned to copies randomly. On the back cover of the publication there will be a quote from Alessandro Michele.

Inside, the book features black and white, and coloured imagery.  Each copy comes with a fold-out poster with colour images on both sides. With a glancing reference to Gucci’s famous Dionysus bag, Marcopoulos said: ‘For seven days we photographed Alessandro’s collection. As the days went on our surroundings made me feel equally in Roman times of the past and solidly in the present and future. Above all we were having a good time which would have pleased Dionysus.’

Produced in association with Gucci and published by IDEA books, Epiphany will be launched on 5th May at Dover Street Market in New York, where Marcopoulos will be present to sign copies. He will meet customers in the permanent dedicated Gucci space at the store. The signing will take place as part of Dover Street Market’s Open House, which celebrates Frieze New York and art in Manhattan in general.

It will be released in a limited edition of 1,000 copies, and as part of the worldwide launch at Dover Street Market New York, its availability will be restricted for a month, during which it will be exclusively available from the Manhattan retailer. It will then be on sale during the Pitti Uomo exhibition in Florence in June, when there will be another signing at the Gucci Museo, which will function as the second retailer through which Epiphany can be bought. One further signing and retail outlet in London is to be confirmed later. And from July it will be sold at the IDEA books website (ideanow.online).

Dover Street Market New York is at 160 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10016 (newyork.doverstreetmarket.com).
