As the year comes to an end, it means that awards season is upon us, and in the middle of upcoming SAG Awards and the long awaited Golden Globes, it is about time to start making possible predictions for the movies vying for the Best Picture category. Here are our 5 front runners for the 2018 award season; and if you haven’t watched any of these films, then you have something to do over this holiday break!

1) Dunkirk

Directed by Christopher Nolan, who once earned Best Picture for his film Inception in 2011; and with Dunkirk Nolan worked hard to stay in the minds of the academy voters. And with his high  craft, it could go a long way.

2) Lady Bird

Greta Gerwig brings attention to a great cultural topic with a script teasing the relationship between a mother and her teenage daughter. It would a be shame not to give regard to a stories for women written by women.

3) The Post

And of course, there is Steven Spielberg’s film, starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks who lead the true story of the the Washington Post. And there you have a timeless modern American story and Spielberg promising work delivered, this interesting to see how this will play out in the Academy’s view.

4) Phantom Thread

Scoring lots of positive reviews, is Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread, who reunited with actor Daniel Day-Lewis for a hypnotic and powerful love story. Plus, this is apparently said to be Day-Lewis’s final performance (maybe this in favor more for the Best Actor award).

5) The Big Sick

Also in the mix, an indie rom-com movie The Big Sick written by Kumail Nanjiani and his wife, have been praised for its smart writing and heart-felt performances; and already inspired passionate support that has the lots of power to sustain momentum throughout the award season.
