Balmain Menswear Fall 2017 Inspired By Musical Legends

  |   23-01-2017

It was a grand-scale runway show for Balmain Menswear Fall 2017. Freddie Mercury kicked off the show with “The  show must go on.” Olivier Rousteing was mourning the passing of so many musical legends in 2016 that he labelled the show “a hymn to music meets fashion.” It was a combination of a tribute to these icons that had died combined with the boldness and extravagance of the Balmain’s epic style.

Rousteing said: “I always say fashion meets music and what gives me energy in fashion is music, the music is so important; music broke so many boundaries in fashion. I think I wanted to do this collection thinking about all of the legends we lost last year, because they were legends in music and fashion; they broke boundaries in fashion.” And if you think about it, when you’re getting ready for a night out, music can really influence your choice of outfit.

The collection was huge with 82 looks. Each piece had bling, embellishment or embroidery. Also camouflage, military and ’80s shapes, with luxe skins. It was a strong collection. Heavy metal iconography was re-created on jagged Balmain logo T-shirts worn under camo jackets and blazers. Embellished big cats, ascending phoenixes, and curled serpents were all highlighted, and one particular standout item included a lavish set of gold knit pyjamas worn over a beaded phoenix sweater.
