New York Fashion Week SS18: Fenty x Puma

Last night, the Fenty X Puma SS’18 show debuted at Park Avenue Armory, while three moto-cross stuntmen opened the show with a brilliant 360-degree tricks across a pink sand-dune themed runway. The creative director for Puma’s fashion sportswear, Rihanna displays a collection one of New York Fashion Week’s most electrifying event that kept all fans and guests at the edge of their seats.

The X Games inspired collection, there were biker shorts and lyrca scuba outfits; including some ’80s swimwear trends such as that French-cut bathing suit. Models cascaded the catwalk with cool detailed body-con beach cover-ups with zippers, lace, and mesh overlay.

Always keeping one step ahead,  the pop star dares to unleash her inner tomboy with oversized motor inspired track pants and nylon parkas; another way to push the athleisure trend out of its comfort zone, was her experimental accessories of flip-flop stiletto sandals with surf-style ankle straps, mules with thick heels, chunky heavy boots, and the updated logo fanny packs.

New York Fashion Week SS18: Jason Wu

Flower bunches stood along the runway and the clothes were printed with ditsy and delicate  florals. For many years, Wu’s trademark is pretty dresses, and the brand’s aesthetic remains till this day.

Model Bella Hadid opened the show in a midriff-baring striped cotton dress, “It’s going to be easier than what you’ve seen from me,” Jason explains his Spring collection. “It’s getting more casual.” Silhouettes were slinky, blazers were tailored with detail and chiffon gowns were draped and pleated from the hips down.

Wu’s use of jersey was new, especially his intricate pleating techniques and handwork made the dresses look very modern. All in all, we are a big fan of the simplicity of the entire collection and the effortless appeal it had. We also liked the simplicity of his trim peplum sweaters and slinky jersey skirts.

New York Fashion Week Day Two

New York has always been known for being the ‘technical capital’, meaning where fashion meets function.  After the nostalgic comeback of Tom Ford, New York Fashion Week day two was full of colour and concept. Here’s the edit of our picks from yesterday’s shows and events .

Designers Laura Vassar and Kris Brock of Brock Collection brought back the ethereal summer beauty for the upcoming season. “We always take this path of this raw romanticism, and this season we wanted to put an edge on it,” the duo said before the show. The lingerie focused collection came with a savvy integration of forties tailoring, where coats, skirts and trousers were mixed with the lingerie pieces; and what gave the collection its essential grit of dark romance was the group of black lace gowns the designers sent down the runway at once.

Just in time for NYFW, Shopbop.com gets a makeover! Today, competition across the e-tail market is super-high, so the luxury e-commerce site decides to increase its editorial output and improve customer experience, and certainly this is not the first revamp the site has undergone. Shopbop’s CEO Darcy Penick explains: “We’re moving more towards a stylized imagery with our product, that allows the model to come forward a little more. It’s less about the standard pose, where they fade into the background, but more about capturing the look and feel of the experience. I think it makes you notice the individual images more.” Shopbop celebrated their total makeover with numerous editors and social icons at their Fall themed pop-up store on 201 Mulberry St. New York City.

The ultra-luxe  skincare brand, hosted a contemporary art exhibit based on the theme of caviar; also invited  two of the talented artists, Paul Coudamy and Remens S. Of course, guests were complimented with Champagne and Skin Caviar treatments from 10am until 5pm, and the night festivities kicked off  over music and with an exclusive caviar tasting bar.

Music Picks: Mashrou’ Leila “ROMAN”

We are absolutely falling in love with the latest hit single by the infamous Lebanese alternative rock band Mashrou’ Leila called “Roman”, in collaboration with the talented director Jessy Moussallem to deliver an expressive “ode to the strength and grace of Arab women and their continuous fight for feminist action.” This won’t be the first thought provoking video for the band to release world-wide.

The Arabic song lyrics translate to: “how can you sell me to the Romans … how did I lose you to the Romans?” referencing to the ancient Roman occupation over Lebanon as a resemblance to male dominance.

“Equality. Solidarity. Intersectionality”- the band states on their Facebook page when they first announced the release of this latest single. Clearly, with this music video intentionally shares the band’s opinion on fighting the stereotypical narratives that Arab women are victims of oppression, and how they should fight for their own rights.

Another main feature includes Bentley’s Dynamic Ride system, this revamped technology uses a 48-volt system to adjust the controlling actuators front and rear that keeps the car from leaning into sharp corners, but still offers a comfortable ride setting with air suspension. Designed with a revolutionary technology, the muscular exterior must not be forgotten; its stiff yet lightweight body is carefully handcrafted especially with the engine positioned further back to improve the car’s weight distribution, which takes us to its driver-focused and dynamic performance perfection.

New York Fashion Week SS18: Tom Ford

Last night, Tom Ford returns to New York City with a ’90s throwback glory kicking off the Spring Summer 2018 season.

The designer went full on with his signature glamour, while all the requisite supermodels of today’s time like Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Joan Smalls cascaded the runway sporting pixie cuts and dazzling evening gowns with bold shoulders.

Ford explained to The Business of Fashion it was “a throwback in a way to the spirit” of when he was the creative at Gucci, a turning point that made him famous in the industry. The Park Avenue Armory brought on a parade of bright coloured crystallized T-shirts and sharp suits.

Whether it was about the models hairstyle, the exaggerated shoulders or the slouchy trousers, Ford’s message for the coming season was crystal clear: he is recapturing the glam of the ’90s.

Fearless as ever, Tom introduced the new women’s jacket, expertly cut in fabulous fabrics and textures with broad shoulders and peaked lapels, models wore it confidently with rolled up shorts, backless jumpsuits and high-waist pants.

One must say that this show was an extravagant start to the fashion. Let’s see what the rest of the designers have in store for us.

Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke Star in The New Dolce and Gabbana Fragrance Ad

On-screen couple Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke from the popular TV series Game of Thrones have reunited for the Dolce and Gabbana fragrance ad.

Both are the new faces of The One for her and for him fragrance line. Clarke took us on stroll through buzzing street of an Italian town for The One Eau de Toilette that went live on September 1. Three days later, Harington took center stage for The One for Men, also went live on September 4. However, just like to many fans we were also disappointed for the two GoTactors never crossing paths in the same advert.

Kit Harington starring for The One for Men by Dolce & Gabbana

The British actors filmed a campaign mirroring one another with a cheery advert and dancing-filled spots in an open-air market on the streets of Naples. Harington plays a charismatic character caught in a festive atmosphere, as he shares some smiles and dance moves with Neapolitan families over a savory Italian dish.

As for Emilia Clarke, she gifts the new fragrance campaign with her irresistible natural, fresh beauty that envisions the true essence of The One perfume. Also, shot of the streets of Naples with real people living their day-to-day life.

The two new advertising campaigns for The One were directed by the Italian filmmaker Matteo Garrone. In keeping with the brand’s authenticity, the ad scenes combined a charming soundtrack “Tu vuò fa’ l’americano” (translates to “You want to be an American”)- an Italian hit written in Neapolitan in 1965; representing a joyous celebration of the genuineness and warmth of the Italian culture.

Paris Fashion Week SS18: Dior

Today, the excitement around Maria Grazia Chiuri’s debut for Christian Dior was finally tangible again at the first morning of Paris Fashion Week.

The first clue we got about Chiuri’s latest SS18 collection was at the entrance of the Musée Rodin; engraved on a big cement wall, quoting the renowned French-American experimental artist and filmmaker, Niki de Saint Phalle.

“If life is a game of cards. We are born without knowing the rules. Yet we must play our hand. Throughout the ages people have liked playing with tarot cards. Poets philosophers alchemists artists have devoted themselves to discovering their meaning” Niki de Saint Phalle.

Heavily influenced by feminine identity, the artistic director looked for inspiration in Phalle’s emotional driven works of art and series of photographs as she transforms them into a magical reality cascading down the runway inside a hall made of 80,000 pieces of mirror, and 7.2 tons of concrete.

Maria Grazia also explored the Maison’s archives and found inspiration from Marc Bohan’s era; referencing his playful creations, Chiuri introduced a colourful palette and thick blocks of rainbow brushstrokes on little dresses and jumpsuits paired with fun full-skirts opened from the front. There were also play-suits with black and white checks and large polka dots printed shirts, stripped sweaters with dragon graphics and some long-sleeved cotton tops reading “Why have there been no great woman artists”?- extracted from Linda Nochlin’s 1971 essay.

Through the Sixties inspired line-up there were plenty of things, which were pure Maria Grazia, her talent with the mirror metallic high lace-up boot, beret hats in black leather, double-denim ensembles and tulle skirts.

Once again, Chiuri is voicing her beliefs by illustrating the changing forces accomplished by women; not only found in fashion, but who are also changing today’s contemporary world.

News Alert: Saint Laurent Releases Roller Skate Stilettos

Every season, we have designers who come up with new eccentric ideas to catch the world’s attention. And this year, it was Saint Laurent who caught us by surprise with their latest pair of rolling stilettos. Literally!

Courtesy Saint Laurent

As if heels are not challenging enough; being one of Anthony Vaccarello’s first products for the Parisian house, these new bold part heel and part roller-skate shoes might be impractical for some, but for others it can be the perfect accessory for a woman who is running in between meetings. The stilettos feature a three-plus inch heel with roller skate wheels attached to the bottom, plus kick-stop brake underneath the shoe’s platform. The shoe comes in various designs, embellished with pearls, snakeskin, and sequins. Four years ago, the French maison launched the roller skate sneakers, however one must say that this recent debut is on a whole different level.

As part of Saint Laurent Fall 2017 collection, these killer shoes are $2,600; and you are looking to be closer to the ground, a sneaker version can be purchased at $1,195, which you can only by in-store. It’s tough to imagine the right scenario where these killer wheeled heels would be appropriate to wear them to.
