Clear your mind, focus your energy and embrace your inner yogi with our guide to the best yoga studios in Dubai.
With so many studios to choose from, we made sure that not only do they offer the best classes to stretch out stresses of the week, but also come with expert instructors and great facilities.
Urban Yoga, Business Bay
Located at the top of the Aspect Tower in Business Bay, the studio might as well be in New York. The classes in the modern loft space on 37th floor with panoramic views over the city fill up quickly, especially the mixed sunrise yoga sessions where you can watch the sun come up over Jumeirah while holding a tree pose.
Rawr Yoga, Media City
For the ones who want to sweat it out and push their body to new levels, Rawr yoga is tough but boy is it worth it. Fans come here for some tough Bikram love that involve 90-minutes of 26 postures in a 40°C room. Hard? Yes. But will it leave you feeling energised? Absolutely.
Zoga, Downtown Dubai
A modern boutique studio located near South Ridge is never too busy and that’s why we like it. The instructors correct your postures which is an advantage for those who just started their yoga journey and when you get into it, they have mats and yoga clothing to purchase. There’s also the café to pick up juices or smoothies as well as vegan treats – you worked hard after all.
Motion Ladies Fitness, Umm Suqeim
Some of the most stylish ladies in Dubai head to a villa nestled in the quiet streets of Umm Suqeim. The tranquil setting is ideal for a lunchtime practice of either Hatha class or Swing yoga and afterwards why not grab yourself something fresh from the in-house juice bar.
Piloga, Bay Square
Want something different and upbeat? Piloga likes to break the traditional yoga stereotypes of sitting and omming by bringing a selection of classes like HIP HOP and Booty Buster Yoga. Purists have no need to worry as the studio also hosts Hatha and Vinyasa classes.
Namaste
The festive period is upon us which means filling up those holiday hours with a good read, or finding the perfect stocking filler for a book worm in your family.
Whether it’s to inspire a creative mind, or simply escape into another world – there are certain novels that become a firm favourite and A&E editors share their top picks to add your reading list.

The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin S. Sharma
It reflects the real meaning of life and how we should treat ourselves, act and react in front of all the difficult and beautiful situations that we are facing in our everyday life. “Investing in yourself is the best investment you will ever make. it will not only improve your life; it will improve the lives of all those around you.”
Dana Mortada, Editor, A&E Magazine and A&E Magazine Lebanon
The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera
Kundera is an uncommon writer, to say the least. This novel is literally about everything in life; and the reader can easily get lost in the author’s own philosophical thoughts, but if you can find some meaning in those, this just might be the right novel for you, as it was for me.

Harry Potter Series by J.K Rowling
Before you judge me, I have studied Shakespeare, enjoy World War One poetry and been forced by my mum to read key Russian literature, but nothing brings me more joy than diving into the magical world that J.K Rowling thought up on one of her daily train journeys. The Philosophers Stone was the first book I could read in English cover to cover when I moved to the UK so it holds a special meaning. Also, these books do bring up important life lessons of friendship, loyalty, bravery and love – what can be greater than that?

It may only have dropped a few degrees but that’s good enough for us to start looking to our fall wardrobe and staple knitwear pieces like a turtleneck.
Let’s forget the chunky wool versions and instead focus on delicate fabrics like cashmere that feel snug but allow some breathing room. We can also take coats and shearling jackets out of the equation and choose blazers, shirting and leather as layering tools that are still autumnal but not stifling.
Picking the right silhouettes is key so nothing to loose, fitted shapes look best with pencil skirts and straight cut jeans. For evening why not go for a lace version to wear under a crisp white shirt or a silky slip dress. Tip? Go for neutral shades like nude, white or black as these will go with everything in your wardrobe.

Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has unveiled his take on the Claridge’s Christmas tree.
We expected the head of Chanel and Fendi to come up with something unusual and he didn’t disappoint with the 16-foot tree positioned upside down in the hotel lobby.
Inspired by his own childhood – must’ve been an adventurous one – the German designer decorated the inverted tree with silver lametta, silver butter leather feathers and snowflakes handmade by craftsmen in Germany. At the base he placed Icelandic sheepskin rugs that represent snowfall.
Visitors in London’s Mayfair will be able to admire his creation from now until the end of the festive period.

Versatility can come in many forms, but it’s sometimes the smallest item that can make a big difference and we want to focus on one of the most classic, decadent accessories of them all. A silk scarf.
Be it a vintage Hermes or the latest addition from Louis Vuitton or Dolce & Gabbana, there is a great power in a silky piece of fabric that can be styled several ways, and we have the top five most straight forward and chic versions for you to try.
Bag
Update your go-to carry all or an evening mini bag with a skinny silk scarf by simply tying it in a bow, wrapping round the handle or using it as a handle itself.
Neck
The chic alternative to your cashmere scarf, this is a nice way to add a print or pop of colour to a neutral outfit. Choose a short version and wrap it as a choker, or go for something longer wear loose over a crisp white shirt.
Hair
Swap your hair band for a silk scarf and style as a bandana, turban or incorporate in a braid. Not only is it a great tool for getting pesky hairs out of the way in the heat, but it also adds something extra to an up-do for day or night.
Wrist
This is probably one of the subtlest ways to add a silk scarf to your outfit. Wrap it tightly, but not too tight, round the wrist and position either below the watch or in-between the bracelets.
Belt
Be it a coat, skirt, jeans or a dress – belting is the fool proof way of achieving a more feminine silhouette. Pack away the chunky buckles and let the silky version instantly deliver a more delicate result.

At A&E we like to test some of the best skincare products on the market, and nothing boosts complexion like a solid nighttime routine. When you sleep, your skin works hard to rebuild and replenish, so any help you can give it is an added bonus.
We all want to wake up with a fresh glowing face the next morning, so why not try some of our essentials below.

Chanel Le Lift Crème-Huile Réparatrice has all the replenishing properties of oils, but in a light cream formula. Jojoba oil and shea butter extracts help smooth and plump the skin, but for most effective lifting results spend some time applying an energetic finger massage with upward strokes.
Charline Deek, Senior Editor, A&E Magazine Arabia
Nobody wants to wake to dull sagging skin so for a boost of goodness that leaves me with a more plumped complexion, I use Dior Capture Totale Serum. Contaning Longoza flower extract from Madagascar, the product is designed to fight against wrinkles and loss of firmness resulting in a smoother surface, which is ideal for applying makeup the next day.
Dana Mortada, Editor, A&E Magazine
I’m a huge Kiehl’s fans and have been religiously using the Eye Alert and Midnight Recovery Concentrate. This eye cream is actually for men but we don’t mind borrowing from the boys and this gel with cucumber extract brightens and depuffs while soothing tired eyes. You don’t need to use Midnight Recovery Concentrate nightly and or apply a lot either. Just three drops of the oil once or twice a week, which you can mix in with your night cream or use on it’s own, is enough as the blend of essential oils and botanical’s including lavender oil, evening primrose oil and olive-derived squalane work together to enhance your skin’s natural nightly recovery process.

I have only recently been introduced to the French-Korean skincare brand Erborian and I have fallen for their Oil Cleansing Balm. The little pot of green goodness last’s for ages as you only need a small amount to clear away makeup and dirt (heavy eye makeup too) leaving you skin feeling silky smooth. If I want to let my skin recover, I don’t add anything afterwards as this product contains green tea, tiger grass as well as chamomile that restores dry, sensitive and irritated skin.

A&E Guide To CC Cream
Multiple tuxedo styles, countless shirt options and challenges of a bow tie, there are many elements to think about when it comes to smart evening wear.
We like to keep it simple so for a black tie dress code you will need a white dress shirt, a black bow tie, an evening waistcoat, a dinner jacket in which the lapels are a different shade to the rest of the jacket, matching trousers and a pair of black high-shine shoes.
The Tuxedo
Ideally you’ll have a couple tailor made for you which may seem extreme, but trust us a well cut classic will last you for many years to come. If you want something off-the-rail, look for a slim-fit.
The tuxedo jacket (or a dinner jacket) should be wool barathea, mohair or a mix of both. For warmer climates, wool and silk mix works too. Look for clean silhouettes with a closed back and for one-style-fits-all, black is your best bet – but don’t disregard navy.
The trousers should match the jacket, unless you have decided on a decadent velvet style. They have to be hemmed, with no belt loops and with a single braid down the side.
The Dress Shirt
Keep it minimal and timeless with a white shirt in the highest-quality fabric available. Traditionally you would choose a shirt with a wing tip collar, but nowadays you can get away with a simple collar. But whether you opt for studs or buttons, cuffs must always be double.
Waistcoat?
This is optional, but if you’re going all out you might as well include a waistcoat in your ensemble. It’s a great way to add some personality to an otherwise classic look.
The Bow Tie
Getting to grips with tying a bow tie can be frustrating, but once you do it a couple of times, it’s the most authentic way. However, if you don’t want the fuss there is nothing wrong with buying a ready-tied one too.
Shoes
You don’t need a pair of Oxford’s as long as the shoes have a high-shine finish. For something more youthful, got for a slightly narrow round toe.

Couturier Azzedine Alaïa has passed away aged 77 in Paris.
French-Tunisian designer was admired for his individuality and not following the conventions of the fashion industry such as showing his collection off the usual fashion week schedule. Many have and continue to be inspired by his skill at cutting and signature feminine silhouettes
“It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Azzedine Alaïa,” François-Henri Pinault, Kering’s chairman and chief executive, told Business Of Fashion. “In the fashion world, he was a great, a major couturier. Everything was at the top with him: couture, art, the standards he aimed at, his dedication to his work, his mastering of techniques, and all the women he dressed. He was an artisan in the noble sense of the term, and a man fiercely attached to his freedom. He was a friend.”
Alaïa started his career at Christian Dior after which he moved on to Guy Laroche and then Thierry Mugler, before opening his own atelier in the late 1970s. His creations attracted a strong celebrity following from the likes of Nicole Kidman, Rihanna, Naomi Campbell and Michelle Obama.
Victoria Beckham has launched an exclusive Tuxedo Collection online for the holidays and we have selected our favourite pieces.
The limited edition line includes suiting separates, dresses and a range of sparkling accessories including a modern day Dorothy pumps that we can see being a hit during the party season.
Known for her clean approach to design with accented features, the collection is ideal for those who prefer the no-fuss event dressing but still want to make an elegant statement. A classic black suit is a must in anyone’s wardrobe and when styled with a ruffle neck blouse and glittering shoes, it instantly feels fresh and youthful.

Leonardo da Vinci’s painting sells for world record $450 million in New York last night.
After 19 minutes of bidding over the phone, Vinci’s Salvator Mundi (Saviour of the World) was bought for exactly $450,312,500 million which had a guaranteed pre-sale bid of at least $100 million and is one of the few paintings by the artist still to exist.
“Salvator Mundi is a painting of the most iconic figure in the world by the most important artist of all time,” said Loic Gouzer, co-chairman of post-war and contemporary art at Christie’s.
Dubbed as the ‘biggest discover of the 21st century’, it took over six years to confirm the paintings authenticity and in 2011 it was put on display at the National Gallery in London. For all the brushes and sponges in the world, the greatest makeup application tool are your hands.
Palms warm foundation helping it blend into the skin flawlessly, while your fingers are ideal for precise application of concealer and lipstick. Follow our step by step guide to master the skills at your fingertips.
Step 1
Wash your hands before applying anything on your face.
Step 2
Approach foundation like a face cream by warming it in your hands first. This helps it glide on more evenly making it part of the skin. You can also add a serum into the mix for added boost of goodness. Use the finger tips to blend the concealer on dark circles and blemishes.
Step 3
You can use blusher or lipstick on your cheeks, just add a little bit on the thump (it’s exactly the same size as the cheek area you want to cover) tap it on and gently blend in a Nike tick shape.
Step 4
Use the cushion part of your palm heel to add bronzer and highlighter. Do it gradually for the most natural finish and start with a creamy bronzer just under the cheek area, working your way up the side of the face to the forehead in letter C shape. Follow the same shape with the highlighter, but begin above the cheeks and go up to the top of the brow line.
Step 5
With your index finger you can apply the base eyeshadow shade and then use the middle finger on the outer corner for the smoky effect. The pinky finger is best for any highlighting on the inner corner of the eye.
Step 6
We love the more laid back lip look this season so take your ring finger and apply lip colour from the center of your lips out towards the lip line. It works with any texture, just make sure you blur the edges for that chic casual finish.

Nadine Kanso joins forces with Fadi Sarieddine on a limited edition collaborative design project to mark the third edition of Dubai Design Week.
Jewellery design and architecture come together in a furniture collection titled ‘Khawatir’ which sees Kanso apply her calligraphy skills to minimal modern creations by Sarieddine. The range consists of a stand-alone mirror, titled, ‘Ana’, a multi-purpose stool titled, ‘Hobb’ (Love) and a hand-held mirror titled Ana 02. The materials used for this project include wood, brass, mirror and neon paint.
A&E chats to the creative duo about the project and what the design scene in the region.
How did this collaboration come about?
Nadine Kanso: A few months back, Fadi and his lovely wife Lilas approached me as they’ve always know my love for calligraphy and it was something they’ve always wanted to tap in through their designs. We ended up having several brainstorming sessions and came up with three products. I have always wanted to work with mirrors, as I believe the term ‘reflections’ has been coined from this very product – which is what KHAWATIR is all about.
Fadi Sarieddine: The idea was triggered at Nadine’s 10-year anniversary exhibit when we saw her oversized folded calligraphy and thought that there’s a great potential in merging both aspects of our design approaches.
Is there anything about this collaboration that surprised you?
NS: I always found it super important to push one self in trying new pieces of work that is not always in your area of expertise as I’ve never done product design before. Right from the very stage of production to having our ideologies and thoughts combined and seeing the final result was extremely amazing.
FS: The plan was to collaborate without preventing the clash or necessarily achieving harmony. The surprise is that you can see both clash and harmony in the pieces
What was the key message you wanted to get across?
NS: Look inside yourself, in solitude and in company. The mirror is the obvious reference, but it is in the contemplation of one’s identity, thought and action, and reflection on a collective conversation or ideology that we can bring about positive change in this world. Khawatir is truly exclusive collection that resonates closely with my signature design ethos. It was a wonderful journey of discovery for me personally as an artist.
FS: Consistent with our design approach, we love to tell a story through our pieces; the collection is about reflections on oneself, looking at a mirror is an egoistic act and we are not shying away from by including ‘Ana’ (me) as an integral part of the mirrors. When it comes to the tables, one starts dealing with the other, interacting with the other around them; the tables are carved with Nadine’s abstract calligraphy that says ‘Hob’ (love).
What do you admire most about each other’s work?
NS: What I admire is not only the beauty of the design pieces Fadi has created in the past but also how practical and functional they are. Usually when one collaborates, it is always essential to find someone that not only compliments your thoughts and ideologies but also shares the same brand values and beliefs. It was an easy process with Fadi and I knew our product towards the end would be super beautiful.
FS: I love Nadine’s work; she managed to give calligraphy a special three-dimensional aspect while adapting perfectly to the human body.
Are there other designers you look forward to seeing at Dubai Design Week?
NS: I am happy to see everyone collaborating and working on several pieces. AR Gallery is one of the best examples where several designers such as Anna Szonyi, Apical Reform, Cecilia Setterdahl, Hamza Omari, Hybridart came together for a special cause and curated a wonderful collection exploring the diversity of our planet and environment and starting a dialogue of change. This creatively pushes us into a new field, a new vision and new thought.
FS: Looking forward to see Global Grad Show, this is where real experimentation is found.
See their work at Dubai Design Week after which it will move to The Lighthouse Concept Store and Restaurant.

Use every morning following serum and moisturiser, and watch it cover underlying blemishes and unbalanced complexion resulting in a smoother base for your concealer. On weekends why not give your skin a break and wear it alone as it leaves you with sheer, skin-perfecting coverage.
The CC Crème from Korean-French brand Erborian has been an instant hit with our editors and has been selling out across Sephora stores. What makes it particularly good for us living in the sunshine, is that it’s packed with UVA/UVB protection thanks to mineral-based titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which also aids in minimising first signs of ageing. By Terry has also performed well due to the silky texture diffusing light creating an even finish and camouflaging imperfections, while the Centifolia roses native cells add a boost of hydration.
