Sergio Rossi S.p.A. Announces The House’s New Creative Director

Italian luxury footwear brand Sergio Rossi has announced Paul Andrew as Creative Director.

Discussing the appointment in the notes which accompanied the announcement, the house described Andrew as a “leading voice in the new generation of design talent,” and referenced the designers he has worked alongside, including Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Narciso Rodriguez and the late Alexander McQueen.

Andrew launched his eponymous collection of women’s footwear in 2013, soon thereafter extended the line to include men’s footwear, and in 2014 became the first shoe designer and the youngest brand to win the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. In 2016, Salvatore Ferragamo appointed Andrew as Design Director for women’s shoes, and one year later promoted him to Women’s Creative Director. Following the global success of his first collections, Andrew was named Creative Director of all Ferragamo product categories in 2019 – the first individual to assume this title since Salvatore Ferragamo himself helmed the brand. Andrew’s work is at once daring and pragmatic, balancing handmade craftsmanship with the latest material and technological innovations. His passionate work ethic, dedication to brand building and entrepreneurialism have earned him critical praise and commercial respect internationally.

Commenting on the appointment, Helen Wright, Sergio Rossi CEO said “Paul Andrew is a remarkable and exciting talent to lead the creative direction of our legendary Sergio Rossi brand. He is admired across the world for his innovative footwear design and technical fluency. He brings a deep respect for our brand heritage, an instinctive understanding of our diverse audiences, and above all a vibrant creativity that will capture the imagination of the Sergio Rossi woman of today and tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Andrew added: “I am honoured and delighted to join Sergio Rossi as Creative Director, a world-renowned house of shoemaking whose roots and legacy speak to the lasting power of Italian savoir-faire. And I look forward to building upon Sergio Rossi’s own unique spirit of innovation and high craft as we propose a bright new vision for the brand today.”

Highlights From Maria Grazia Chiuri’s “Miss Dior” AW24-25 Collection

For the Dior AW24-25 collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri chose to highlight the “Miss Dior” era, first dreamed up in 1967  by Marc Bohan and Philippe Guibourgé.

Adorned with unique design and graffiti, the logo appears on a selection of ready-to-wear pieces, shoes and the iconic Dior Book Tote along with this season’s exclusive novelty; the Miss Dior bag.

The signature “Miss Dior” logo runs through the looks, invoking the notion of transmission between two eras, two generations, and two fashion worlds.

Emblazoned with compelling graffiti, it appears on t-shirts, jackets, scarves, Walk’n’Dior sneakers and the iconic Dior Book Tote.

Re-imagined as a mesmerising code, it adorns bobs, clutches and even the Miss Dior bag, this season’s exclusive novelty.

Its emblematic graphics are also featured on a series of metallic details – functional or decorative – that punctuate the silhouettes like an audacious credo; a couture symbol notably distinguishing Miss Dior shoes, jewellery, belts, and eyewear.

Camila Morrone Fronts The CHANEL FW24-25 Pre-Collection

Camila Morrone dazzles in the CHANEL Fall-Winter 2024/25 pre-collection campaign photographed by Karim Sadli.

“Being a part of the CHANEL family has always been a dream and aspiration of mine,” says the Morrone. “Over the years of working so closely with them for shows and red carpets, we naturally developed a beautiful dialogue and understanding of what version my ‘CHANEL essence’ is.”

The black and white images exude the elegance, sophistication and mystery of Hollywood actresses from the 1940s, a period that fascinates Camila Morrone: “I would watch these films in complete awe of the female protagonists, like Rita Hayworth in Gilda. There was such a seduction, class, and power in the clothes they wore. They looked like true movie stars, they didn’t show too much skin, and yet, they were as seductive as can be. That’s what the French woman does so well.”

Against the backdrop of a Parisian restaurant, the silhouette is glamorous and ultra-feminine. A long black openwork velvet dress, a leather outfit, a silk chiffon top and a skirt with a bow motif all subtly play with cut-outs and transparency.

Tweed is reinvented as a vest top with a scoop neckline, while the House codes stand out against the Belle Époque décor: camellias, embroidered bows, jewelled buttons, bags with long chains and pearls slipped over the shoulder… A festive ambience where the spirit of Paris dances alongside the golden age of Hollywood.

The collection also explores the contrast between masculine and feminine, a balance dear to Gabrielle Chanel and particularly appreciated by Camila Morrone: “I have always gravitated to classic silhouettes that tapped into subtle femininity. Whether it’s exposing the décolletage, or accentuating the waistline. Within that, I still love the feel of a masculine look, the weight of the material and the structure to it. I love the contrast of the two.”

This attitude is reinforced by the studio shots taken against a white background where a long coat in velvet with a floral motif elongates a figure in motion, and a skirt and short jacket are paired with knee-high boots in supple leather.

“It’s young, it’s fresh, it’s strong and most importantly, it’s effortless. All of these looks can so easily go from day to night. It’s a versatile collection that can go whichever way you dress it up,” concludes Morrone.

The CHANEL Fall-Winter 2024/25 pre-collection will be available in boutiques from today, 23rd July 2024.

Prada’s New Campaign Is Inspired By The Power Of Connection

Prada’s latest FW24 campaign has been revealed, and it is centred upon the art of communication.

Discussing the inspiration for the release which is titled “Now That We’re Here” the house said “The campaign embraces a fundamental tenet at the heart of the house’s creativity: the notion of conversing, of exchange of ideas. Honest human interaction is at the core of Prada’s identity – the foundation of its expression of fashion, and the root of the creative partnership between Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons.”.

An ensemble cast of world-renowned actors are captured in intimate and unrehearsed interaction, and stolen moments, photographed by Willy Vanderperre. Harris Dickinson, Damson Idris, Yili Ma, Hunter Schafer and Letitia Wright engage with one another, both face-to-face and via phone, the images of their interchanges nodding simultaneously to the fiction of different eras, of narrative cinema and the variety of documentary.

They speak from a script created by American filmmaker, artist, and writer Miranda July, whose own work constantly explores these ideas of discussion, of links between individuals forged by language.

The campaign extends into reality, not just observing but instigating dialogue as action: sets of conversation cards, written by Miranda July, propose topics to discuss among friends. Within the accompanying short films, directed by Oscar-nominated documentary director Garret Bradley, July is herself an invisible protagonist – we hear her voice on the other side of the phone, confessing fragments of imaginary narratives. In both images and film, these conversations are tantalizingly out of reach – seen, sometimes partially heard, they invite revelation in the imagining of their entirety.

The campaign imagery is informal and direct, simple and true. It reflects innately human gestures and impulses – our need to connect, to offer opinions, to listen and learn.

Loro Piana Celebrates 100 Years With New Scottish FW24-25 Campaign

Celebrating the house’s 100th anniversary, Loro Piana has revealed its latest campaign shot in Scotland by Mario Sorrenti.

For the Fall-Winter 2024-2025 collection, the house travelled to the northern British country.

Scotland is the land of the Cheviot, the typically Scottish woollen fabric, but it is also where Loro Piana first came to know about the virtues of the fiore di cardo, the thistle flower, which is part of Maison’s coat of arms since 1951.

The FW24-25 collection features several of Loro Piana’s core house fabrics, including Baby Cashmere, Vicuña, Cashmere, Sopra Visso, Pecora Nera and Cheviot.

Alongside the hallmark fabrics, there are signature details too, woven throughout the collection such as a design of the thistle flower.

The powerful landscapes and hues of Scottish nature are the backdrop that perfectly contains a Collection imagined as a far-roaming and extraordinary journey across fibres, fabrics, and shapes that honour the unique know-how, the technical expertise, but also the very personal take on elegance that are founding values of Loro Piana, and have endured for 100 years.

British elegance and a sense of being perfectly put together come through with herringbone and checked patterns. The result is harmonic: a powerful merge of history and inspiration, with an authentic timber.

Guest Designer And Brand Ambassador Lewis Hamilton Presents The Dior Lifestyle Capsule

The British seven-time champion F1 driver Lewis Hamilton has almost become as well known for his fashion prowess off the track as his driving success on it over the years.

It perhaps comes as no surprise then, that Hamilton was tapped by Dior to design the house’s latest Men’s Lifestyle Capsule.

Discussing the synergy between Hamilton and Dior, Kim Jones, the creative director of menswear at the house said: “We share a love of nature, a desire to celebrate Africa and an interest in the artisanal processes and techniques that unite craftspeople in Africa with the savoir-faire of the Dior ateliers. Added to that, this collection also reflects Lewis’ sporting side, his virtuosity and our functionality. All in all, the way things came together happened very organically – and enjoyably!”

The F1 race track is not the only adrenaline-inducing sport that Hamilton is passionate about, he also skydives, surfs and is currently learning to pilot a helicopter. For many years the sporting champion has also taken to the slopes each winter, as he is a passionate snowboarder, which helped to inspire the latest ski and snowboarding theme which runs throughout the capsule

Sustainability is another core component of the new collection. Hamilton has famously followed a plant-based diet for many years and asked that no animal leather was used in the creation of the collection.

Discussing the partnership, Hamilton said: “Working with Kim and the talented team at Dior has been a dream, and I was honoured when Kim asked if I’d like to do this with him. Our values and ideas are aligned, making it easy to bring to life a creative collection infused with our shared experiences. Focusing on conscious choices and pushing boundaries with each piece, while merging inspiration from my roots in Africa – drawing from their fabrics and belief in natural materials, as well as vibrant colours and powerful energy – has been so inspiring. I hope people everywhere feel good in these garments we designed so carefully.”

Emirati Olympian Safiya Al Saiyagh Discusses Representing The UAE

Safiya Al Saiyagh has been a cyclist for as long as she can remember, and this summer she will have the honour of representing the UAE at the Olympic Games in Paris.

The professional rider has been part of the UAE Team ADQ since 2021 and has achieved remarkable feats in her cycling career. Notably, she clinched her National title in Individual Time Trial and Road Race at the annual National Championship for the third consecutive time. Safiya has made significant contributions to the UAE’s cycling legacy, earning the first Gold Medal for the country in the Arab cycling championship hosted in Egypt.

Additionally, she secured a commendable 3rd place, with a Bronze title, in the Asian Championship in the Under 23 category in 2022. In 2023, Safiya made history by participating in her inaugural professional race in Europe during the Princess Ana Vasa Tour in Poland, alongside the UAE Development Team. Later that year, at the Tour of Chongming Island and the Tour of Guangxi in China, UAE Team ADQ achieved another milestone as Safiya became the first female Emirati athlete to compete in a UCI Women’s World Tour race. She demonstrated unwavering determination by finishing all stages and secured an impressive 12th place in the Youth Classification (U23). The year 2023 proved to be a golden one for Safiya as she continued to develop, earning a qualification for the Paris Olympics Games in 2024. We sat down with Safiya to learn more about her Olympic ambitions and beyond.

Congratulations on qualifying for the Olympics. In terms of career goals, how does the chance to compete at the Summer Games rank?

With working to rank up the nation’s UCI point ranking I was able to qualify and gain a place in the Women Elite Road Race happening in Paris. Through the season of 22’ and 23’, we tried to compete in many different races, whether national or international with UAE Team ADQ and the UAE National Team, to achieve as many points as possible. By October 24’ we had made it into the nation classification ranking which enabled me to get a spot to race in the Paris Olympics as the first Emirati female cyclist. and 2nd as a sportswoman in the history of the UAE.

What event are you competing in in Paris?

I will be competing in the 158km Women Elite Road Race on the roads of Paris.

What are your targets for the competition, what result and finish would you be happy with?

I would feel extremely proud of myself for being able to complete the race and cross that finish line in the centre of Paris. It is going to be a very tough and long race, the longest of my career. I hope to arrive in form to complete the race and try and perform the best performance of my life on my Colnago bike in Paris, in front of the whole world. To have qualified was a childhood dream that became a long-term goal and I’m very happy to have achieved the qualification all thanks to the succession of Allah first and then with the hard work and hours spent training and being guided by the best professionals.

How do you think it will feel to walk out there at the Opening Ceremony under the flag representing the UAE?

I am extremely excited for the opening ceremony. Seeing it every four years on TV already has had me watching it and cheering for the UAE athletes, and to be one of them this year gives me a lot of satisfaction to have UAE Women’s Cycling being represented finally at the Olympics!

Who do you think is the one person that is most proud of you?

I believe it’s my parents, and I am even happier and prouder to have had their support, love, and prayers for me along the journey, up until this great personal achievement. I pray to god I get to continue my career with their love and support and to always have them by my side. Their support means a lot to me.

Tell us the story of how you got into cycling.

I have had a bike ever since I was a child, for as long as I can remember. I was a multi-sport athlete at school and tried out all sorts of sports, I enjoyed many of the sports I practised and I think upon coming across knowing about cycling races and practising this sport, I knew I had found the sport for me and where my passion lay.

Are you naturally competitive as a person? If so, how did you nurture that competitive drive?

Although I didn’t realise I was competitive in nature, upon speaking once with my mother god bless her, she said you always have been competitive and have wanted to be a high achiever. When I reflected upon her words I realised those words were true. I have always been competitive whether while playing as a child, growing up and with my studies, or in sports as an athlete.

Did you know that if you were to succeed in following that dream, you would need to do something that no Emirati woman has done before? Was that a motivation for you, or was it more of a side-effect?

Being the first of many of the achievements has amplified my drive and has pushed me to achieve more firsts for my country. It was never what I thought about in the beginning, but it sure is a great feeling to take my country’s sport to international events and podiums.

Can you see a growing interest in cycling among your countrymen and women?

The growth in sport in general, but more specifically cycling, is growing immensely. The number of athletes you see in the country these days, whether locals or foreigners, amateur or pro, the community and the sportive initiatives are increasing.

We can assume that plenty of people are now asking for your advice when it comes to being a professional athlete (for both UAE TEAM ADQ and the National Team), what advice have you been giving those people?

I love to be an advocate for passion. Because it is with god’s succession and my passion, that I have been able to push this far with such a hard sport. Having passion or a motive to drive you will always take you very far open up many doors and lead you to opportunities on the journey. Keep chasing that passion of yours, and remember “passion over perfection”

What is the future for cycling in both the UAE and also for women riders?

The future is bright and it is already brighter in the past couple of years following Covid.
More investments, more support and media coverage are being offered. These factors are pushing women’s sports to much higher places than ever before. I can only see it growing from now on. On another note, to find out that the Olympics in Paris has the participation of 50% of women and the other half as men already shows a lot.

Giorgio Armani has announced the inauguration of maison’s new building on Madison Avenue on the 17th of October this year.
