Excalibur Dragon Monotourbillon

Discussing the new timepieces, in the notes which accompanied the release, the house said:

“This year, Roger Dubuis’ iconic journey continues at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2024 – where the Maison unveils a place like no other to share its tourbillon artistry with the true believers in high horology. Immerse yourself in each contemporary masterpiece and you’ll see exactly what sets Roger Dubuis apart. Not only has the complex tourbillon mechanism been achieved with the utmost ingenuity, but the breathtaking aesthetics continue to inspire, always displaying the unrivalled beauty of the Poinçon de Geneve philosophy.”

The Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon

“To make the challenge just a little bit greater, Roger Dubuis only produces Flying Tourbillons. Unlike traditional versions, the Flying Tourbillon is only mounted on one side, with no supporting bridge on top. Certainly more beautiful to look at, yet far more difficult to create, because stability must be guaranteed. The Geneva watchmaker has successfully achieved that task through a high-performing Flying Tourbillon built from 63 components, all finished by hand with 4 different types of decoration,” the house continued.

Abu Dhabi Art’s Beyond Emerging Artists To Exhibit At The Venice Biennale

Abu Dhabi Art has announced that the programme’s Beyond Emerging Artists will be shown during this year’s Venice Biennale.

The artists, Almaha Jaralla, Samo Shalaby, and Latifa Saeed, will exhibit their work at Marignana Arte Gallery in Venice from 16 April – 15 May, coinciding with the opening of the 60th edition of the Biennale, which holds the theme of ‘Foreigners Everywhere’ this year.

Discussing the announcement, participating artist Samo Shalaby said  “As an artist, being invited to exhibit in Venice is both an honour and an exhilarating opportunity to showcase my work on a global stage. I’m particularly excited to present ‘What Lies Beneath,’ my latest installation that debuted at Abu Dhabi Art in November 2023. Through a fusion of personal narratives expressed through painting, installation, antiquity, and multimedia elements, I aim to create an immersive experience that invites viewers to explore the complexities of identity and perception.

For emerging artists like myself, platforms like this are vital spaces where we can push boundaries, challenge conventions, and offer fresh perspectives on art and culture. As a Middle Eastern artist, it’s crucial to elevate diverse voices and bring them to global attention. I am grateful to the BEA platform for their support and advocacy for emerging artists, and I look forward to sharing my vision with audiences in Venice and beyond.”

Artist Latifa Saeed added: “I am most excited about the opportunity to weave my narrative into the rich tapestry of this global cultural haven. For emerging artists, such opportunities are vital; they offer a global stage, fostering growth and dialogue. Visitors to Venice can expect my work to be a reflection and representation of my region’s essence, I will be showcasing a dissection of a natural phenomenon observed in the Gulf desert landscape under the title ‘Dust Devils’, creating a dialogue between nature and innovation. The experimental artworks evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation inviting viewers to explore nature’s selective, intricate harmony of the four elements: air, fire, water, and earth.”

Since 2017, Abu Dhabi Art’s Beyond Emerging Artists (BEA) programme has provided three emerging artists in the UAE with a platform from which to develop their practice and create ambitious art projects. The artists participate in a year-long programme of workshops and studio visits under the mentorship of a guest curator, before showcasing their works at the annual Art Fair in November at Manarat Al Saadiyat. The curator for this edition of the BEA programme is art historian, publisher, and curator Morad Montazami.

Designed to introduce emerging UAE-based artists to a global audience, this is Abu Dhabi Art’s second iteration in Venice, and its fourth international presentation. In timing the exhibition to coincide with La Biennale di Venezia, Abu Dhabi Art offers young artists an opportunity to exhibit their work on an international stage and engage with art professionals, collectors, and fellow artists.

Hermès Reveals Its New Collection At Watches&Wonders 2024

Hermès has unveiled the house’s fabulous new novelties at Watches & Wonders 2024 in Geneva.

Inspired by simple shapes, the latest Hermès Cut collection created by Philippe Delhotal boldly merges a sharp-edged profile with clean, soft lines.

In one smooth creative stroke, the design combines a free-spirited round form with the perfect geometry of the circle, resulting in a pure and inspiring design.

Echoing Hermès Cut, Erin O’Keefe’s immersive scenography explores the shapes of time.

The American artist’s colourful structures evoke both the simplicity of cave art and the formal simplicity of modernist sculpture.

Cartier Unveils Five New Collections At Watches&Wonders 2024

Watches & Wonders is currently underway in Geneva, with some of the biggest names in the industry revealing their latest timepieces.

This year, Cartier is leading the way, with some fabulous new editions in its collection.

Amongst the releases, there is the Privé Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph, the Santos de Cartier Dual Time, the Santos-Dumont Rewind, the Reflection de Cartier Watch and the Animal Jewellery Watch.

Highlights from the collection

Reflection de Cartier

Reflection de Cartier

This fabulous collection is available in several versions: yellow and rose gold, one in diamond-set white gold and two in white gold paved with coloured stones.

The collection includes two completely new creations. The first celebrates Louis Cartier’s peacock motif, with its blue and green chromatic harmony, consisting principally of chrysoprases, obsidian, emeralds, Paraiba tourmalines and an iridescent blue-green lacquer wrapped around chiselled gold.

The second introduces a new chromatic harmony around opal, amethysts, spessartite garnets and tiger’s eye inserts.

Discussing the new collection, Marie-Laure Cérède, Cartier’s Jewellery and Watchmaking Creative Director explained “Reflection is a veritable sculpture to wear on the wrist – like a skeletonised chain-link that must be ‘broken’ to discover the time. Disruption is woven throughout different sections interrupting the visual rhythm and flow, and a variety of angles and faces break up its roundness. It tempts disorientation by playing with reflections, playing with architecture, and continuing to defy categorisation: neither a watch nor a jewel but an entirely new kind of Cartier creation.”

Santos de Cartier and the Santos-Dumont Collections

Santos-Dumont Rewind

These new timepieces were inspired by the legacy of aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont.

In the new collection, Cartier has revealed two newly-imagined versions of this icon.

First, the elegant Santos-Dumont Rewind watch which changes how we traditionally tell the time. The carnelian dial is full of boldness and its subtle nuances emphasise the singularity of this limited edition in platinum. Roman numerals indicate the time in an arrangement that reverses tradition.

Second, there is the bold Santos de Cartier Dual Time watch which allows you to track two different time zones at once.

Santos de Cartier Dual Time

Its mechanical movement with automatic winding combines two time zones, allowing you to tell the time both where you are and where you are from simultaneously, without sacrificing any resistance or reliability.

These Are The Best Asian Getaways To Explore In 2024

There has never been a better time to book a ticket and explore more of Asia. Here is our rundown of the best places to explore in 2024.

Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo has long been one of the most sought-after destinations in Asia. Japan’s capital city seamlessly combines modernity and tradition, with a plethora of internationally-acclaimed restaurants, luxury hotels and exciting cultural hotspots to explore. In terms of places to stay, one of the best places is Aman Tokyo in the Otemachi district. The property offers stunning views of the cityscape, a serene spa, and exquisite dining options. Another excellent option in the city is the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo which comes with panoramic views of Tokyo Tower and the surrounding city, from its spot in the upscale Roppongi district. The city is famed for its fabulous sushi restaurants, and must-try spots while in the Japanese capital include the three Michelin Star restaurant Kanda; Kiki Harajuku and Isana in Hotel S. The city is a cultural melting pot, and its Mori Art Museum is considered one of its most prized jewels, showcasing a breadth of modern art exhibitions. Also be sure to make time to attend a traditional kabuki performance, a traditional style of Japanese dance which dates back to the 17th century. One of the most popular places to take in a show is at the city’s Kabukiza Theatre in Ginza.

Hanoi, Vietnam

In recent years, the Vietnamese capital has become a must-visit destination while on a tour of Asia. There are plenty of French and Vietnamese-inspired hotels across the city to stay in, one of the best historic properties is The Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi. The iconic property has plenty of colonial architectural charm and is situated in the heart of the city. Another popular hotel is the boutique Hanoi La Siesta Hotel & Spa, which is nestled in Hanoi’s Old Quarter. The city’s gastronomic scene has exploded in recent years, and Michelin arrived in the city for the first time in 2023. There are three properties in the capital which were tapped by the esteemed French guide – each achieving One Michelin Star. Gia (inspired by a local phrase meaning “family”) serves up Contemporary Vietnamese fare across a 12-course set menu, which changes with the seasons and is inspired by the complex culinary history of the country. Meanwhile, Tầm Vị is also a must-try restaurant while in the city. Situated in a vintage tea house, the restaurant serves up largely northern Vietnamese dishes. Also on the list is Hibana by Koki, a Teppanyaki restaurant which includes a theatrical 14-seat experience in the basement of the city’s Capella Hotel, with fresh ingredients flown in twice weekly from Japan.

Hong Kong, China

Hong Kong is one of the most famous cities in the world – and for good reason. The city is home to some of the best restaurants, hotels and cultural sites in the region. From the party hub of Lan Kwai Fong to the awe-inspiring mountainous region in Victoria Peak and beyond, there is something for everyone in this buzzing metropolis. One of the most exquisite properties in the city is the Mandarin Oriental, which offers up Michelin Star fare and panoramic views of the nearby waterway. Not all of the best food in the city can be found in its (many) luxury bars and restaurants, however. Be sure to try Hong Kong’s fantastic street food while in the city. For the best views of the city take the tram to the top of Victoria Peak, and if you’re looking for a little adventure, explore some of the more unique island locations in the city. Llama Island is an easy boat ride from the city’s Central district and home to delectable local restaurants and enjoyable hiking routes.

Bali, Indonesia

Long before Elizabeth Gilbert Eat, Pray, Loved her way to this idyllic Asia getaway, it was considered a luxury destination for those in the know. Bali is home to some of the best five-star properties on the planet. A hotel worth staying at while on the island is AYANA Resort and Spa. The sprawling resort with stunning oceanfront views, private villas, and the famous Rock Bar, located on natural rocks above the Indian Ocean. Second on our list is Kayumanis Jimbaran Private Estate & Spa, which is much loved for its intimate villas with private pools. Perks while staying at this resort include the property’s personalised butler service, along with its proximity to some of the island’s best seafood restaurants in Jimbaran Bay. Gastronomic delights are abound across the island. Top picks include cool nightlife spot Santanera in Canggu which brings together local ingredients with European and Latin American influences. For those who like dinner with a view, you cannot go wrong with Koral Nusa Dua, which is nestled underneath the sea, at the Kempinski property on the island. For those looking to do something a little different, embark on a sunset crust along with coastline, while enjoying breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean.

Seoul, South Korea

Seoul is perhaps one of the most exciting cultural hubs currently in Asia and has made a name for itself recently as the darling of the fashion world, with Gucci, Chanel and Dior all choosing to open shows in the city in recent years. Jet setters are spoiled for choice when it comes to luxury properties in the city.  One of the most converted hotel stays in the South Korean capital is at The Shilla Seoul. It’s the oldest luxury property in the city, and popular with the country’s celebrities. Nestled on the slopes of the Namsan mountain, it offers panoramic views of Seoul, along with maximum privacy for its well-heeled guests. The city is packed full of historic sites and rich with culture. A must-visit is the city’s Gyeongbokgung Palace the largest of the Five Grand Palaces built during the Joseon Dynasty and the location selected by Gucci to host its show in the city in 2023. Fashion fans should take time to explore the luxury shopping districts in Apgujeong and Cheongdam, which are home to both international boutiques and unique designers from the region. In the evening take advantage of the city’s fabulous local food scene – Mosu and Mingles have both been tapped by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, while the Gangnam district is the best place in the city to find explore nightspots and spot famous faces.

Prada Reveals Its New Campaign Starring Scarlett Johansson

The iconic Prada Galleria handbag gained its name from the first-ever Prada boutique in Milan’s famous Galleria Mall.

This season, Prada has partnered again with world-renowned actor Scarlett Johansson, to bring back the handbag in a new form.

The campaign is a celebration of technique, an ode to the mechanism of acting as the true motor of cinema – and to the talent of the actor. Acclaimed for her skill, Johansson has gained Tony and BAFTA awards as well as two Academy Award nominations during her career.

Captured in New York City by director Jonathan Glazer, the still and motion images showcase Johansson as an actor, honing her art – repeating phrases with different feelings and meanings, she showcases the infinite self-transformation that defines an actor’s skill. Abstracted, and unreal, it is film at its most cinematic. Yet, as Johansson exits the studio, the creative project then leaps from screen to reality – albeit a reality fictionalized, idealized for us.

In a quintessentially Prada dichotomy, the intimacy of the act of performing can generate contrasts with panoramic normality of everyday life. Cinéma vérité – Johansson, seemingly undirected, as her true self.

The instrument of Johansson’s everyday is the Prada Galleria, seen here as a tool of life rather than a product, a part of an everyday wardrobe. As with Johansson, its persona can transform; as with acting, it is a symbol of excellence in craft. Here, the Prada Galleria is showcased, in motion, as a fundamental facet of a woman’s reality.

Miu Miu has announced its new arts event, called the Literary Club, Writing Life.

The two-day event will bring into focus the work of Sibilla Aleramo and Alba De Céspedes, alongside conversations, live performances and entertainment.

Inspired by Europe’s rich heritage of literary salons and artist collectives, and a reflection of the lives of women past and present through the written word, the fabulous literary gathering will take place at Circolo Filologico in Milan on April 17 and 18 from 3pm to 9pm.

The inaugural event champions two landmark titles: Aleramo’s “A Woman”, first published in 1906, and De Céspedes’s “Forbidden Notebook”, published almost half a century later in 1952. Both works demonstrate the power of writing as a creative medium which, for centuries, has allowed women to express their thoughts, desires and ideologies, asserting their independence and inspiring their own and future generations to do the same.

According to the house, Miu Miu Literary Club, Writing Life, is conceived to further promote such discourse as well as an understanding of history and education, central both to Miu Miu’s identity and to the lives of women today.

In a series of panel discussions and performances curated by Olga Campofreda – writer and researcher in Italian culture, language and literature – ideas focusing on women’s position in society,  including family, motherhood and work, will be shared and opened up for conversation, springing from the words of these ground-breaking authors.

Speaking about their everyday and creative lives, the thoughts of contemporary authors and commentators will interact with those of the great literary teachers of the past allowing their legacies to enrich the future. Panelists include 2000 Pulitzer Prize winner Jhumpa Lahiri, Italian writer and Strega prize finalist Claudia Durastanti, critically acclaimed writer Sheila Heti, Italian writer and 2011 Campiello Opera Prima winner Viola Di Grado, Booker prize long-listed author Selby Wynn Schwartz and Xiaolu Guo, a Chinese-born British novelist, memoirist and film-maker (National Book Critics Circle Award 2017). Panels will be moderated by writer and curator Lou Stoppard and by author, presenter and journalist Zing Tsjeng.

Similarly evocative poetry and readings will be performed in the afternoon of both days, together with live music performances.

Miu Miu Literary Club is the latest in a series of cultural experiences, devised and supported by Miu Miu, to promote the arts. These include Women’s Tales, an initiative designed to facilitate female film directors, now in its 27th iteration, and collaborations with multi-disciplinary artists for collections and fashion show presentations. Both “A Woman” and “Forbidden Notebook” will be available for the occasion, wrapped in special Miu Miu packaging.

The full two-day programme will be available online on the Miu Miu website.

Saint Laurent Launches New Collaboration For Milan Design Week

Saint Laurent Rive Droite has revealed an exclusive collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives and the Fundación Anala y Armando Planchart for Milan Design Week.

The exhibition, curated
by Anthony Vaccarello, will showcase an exceptional plate collection at the Chiostri di San Simpliciano.

In Venezuela in 1953, Anala and Armando Planchart commissioned the renowned Italian architect Gio Ponti
to build an avant-garde villa for them on the highest hill overlooking Caracas.

Framing their modern aspirations, Gio Ponti designed a house “as light and graceful as a butterfly posed on a hill”, brimming with ingenious inventions, bright colours, and showcasing magnificent views, collections of orchids, and works of art. In finalising the interior decoration of the Villa Planchart, Ponti employed exceptional Italian artisans
with traditional expertise, including the Florentine manufacturer Ginori 1735, for which he had previously worked as artistic director.

He designed a set of porcelain tableware decorated with the symbols
and motifs of the villa, illustrating his artistic talent and eye for detail: the Sun, the Crescent Moon, the Polar Star and magnificent iterations of the letter “A” – a homage to Anala and Armando. Saint Laurent Rive Droite, in collaboration with Ginori 1735, has reissued 12 original plates from
the Villa Planchart Segnaposto collection designed by Gio Ponti in 1957. These traditionally crafted decorative porcelain plates are painted by hand in Ginori 1735’s Italian Manifattura.

The limited-edition plates will be available on ysl.com, at Saint Laurent Rive Droite Los Angeles, Saint Laurent Rive Droite in Paris, and, for a limited time, by appointment at Saint Laurent’s Milan flagship on Via Montenapoleone during Milan Design Week.

Open from the 16th to the 21st of April, the Gio Ponti – Villa Planchart exhibition will be on view at the Chiostri Di San Simpliciano in Milan.

Versace Unveils Its New Icons Campaign Starring Anne Hathaway

The new Versace Icons collection campaign has been revealed featuring Anne Hathaway and Cillian Murphy.

Discussing the choice, Donatella Versace said: “Strong, direct, iconic. For me, Anne and Cillian are two of the best actors of today. Exceptionally talented and kind people I admire and respect, looking their best. Very Versace.”

The Versace Icons wardrobe remains consistent but unexpected through new developments of those iconic codes of Versace—whether immediately recognizable symbols like the Medusa, a signature silhouette, material, or body-conscious cut.

Tailoring is at the foundation of both women’s and men’s pieces. Highlights include a women’s cropped raglan jacket with couture-like rounded shoulder, and men’s tailored jackets with metal Medusa Biggie details across the breast pocket.

Iconic details of the House elevate the every day, whether a silk Barocco print insert at the back of a cotton trench coat or Medusa ’95 metal hardware across the waist of A-line skirts. A series of dresses are offered; functional but feminine by day, fierce but refined by evening. A dress in soft nappa leather features the signature Versace bustier crafted into the bodice to underline the form of the body. Leather is as much a code of the House of Versace as the iconic Medusa or Barocco print and a full offering is presented for both genders – coats, blazer jackets, biker jackets, shirts, dresses, and pants.

Denim is elevated through a tailored cut to women’s jackets, bustier tops, and jeans that are elegantly signed by a metal Medusa ’95 at the waistline. The ultimate men’s staple denim jacket and pants are available in different wash, colour, and fit options.

The codes of the House continue across a full selection of bags and shoes, epitomised by the Medusa ’95 bag line that features the iconic signature as a belt-like detail across structured bag styles.

The campaign from photographers Mert & Marcus continues the clean yet expressive attitude of the collection. The portrait series sees Anne Hathaway and Cillian Murphy unafraid to be their true selves and to show different sides of their iconic personalities by wearing pieces from the collection.

The Versace Icons collection is available now on Versace.com and at boutiques worldwide.

Easy Ways To Spring Clean Your Beauty Routine

Spring is a great time to refresh your beauty routine and make some positive changes. We’ve put together some easy ways to revamp your beauty habits.

Declutter and wash your tools

Start by going through your makeup, skincare products, and tools. First off – check the expiry dates on all products (facemasks and moisturisers can go out of date sooner than you may think!) Get rid of anything that is expired, broken, or that you simply don’t use anymore. This will help you create space for new products and make your routine more efficient. Don’t forget to clean your makeup brushes, sponges, and other beauty tools regularly too. Use a gentle cleanser or brush cleaner to remove dirt, oil, and bacteria buildup. Clean tools will help prevent breakouts and ensure your makeup applies smoothly.

Streamline your routine

Your skincare needs and concerns change as we age, and also with the season. Consider switching to lighter moisturisers and SPF products for the warmer weather. Simplify your beauty routine by focusing on the essentials. Choose multi-purpose products that can serve multiple functions, such as a tinted moisturiser with SPF or a lip and cheek stain. This will save you time and space in your makeup bag.

Switch to lighter formulas

Swap out heavy creams and foundations for lighter formulas that won’t clog your pores or feel heavy on your skin. Look for oil-free moisturizers, water-based foundations, and gel-based cleansers that are more suitable for warmer weather.

Protect your skin

With the sun becoming significantly stronger in the Middle Easter as the seasons change,  it’s essential to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Make sure to wear sunscreen every day and reapply it throughout the day as needed. You can also invest in protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses for added sun protection.

A First Look At The Flagship Dolce&Gabbana Boutique In VIA Riyadh

Dolce&Gabbana has revealed the first images of its new flagship boutique in Saudi Arabia. The new luxury spot is in the converted VIA Riyadh retail district in the capital.

Since opening its doors in 2023, VIA Riyadh has hosted iconic luxury fashion houses, as well as the globally renowned St. Regis Hotel, top-notch international restaurants, and the Renaissance cinema that offers lavish levels of comfort and exclusivity.

The interiors in the new store are inspired by the fusion of Arab and Italian culture.

A prime illustration of this ethos is the prominent use of Salmani Stone, a distinctive yellow stone synonymous with Riyadh, adorning the boutique’s facade with dual entrances.

This same material is artfully incorporated into the interior design, creating a captivating interplay with the white walls featuring ‘Cimento’ stucco finish and the sleek black MDF surfaces.

The majestic basaltina floor, a signature lava stone seen in Dolce&Gabbana boutiques worldwide, unifies the space, offering visitors an authentic and seamless exploration.

Sleek, modern volumes and spaces are meticulously curated, accentuated by refined displays showcasing the latest Collections for men and women, spanning from ready-to-wear to accessories. Additionally, the boutique features designated areas showcasing the elegant furnishings of the Dolce&Gabbana Casa Collection and the exquisite Dolce&Gabbana Beauty fragrance and makeup lines.
