The first-ever Louis Vuitton hotel has been announced by the maison and is set to open in Paris’ famous luxury shopping district in 2026. 

The space – which is in a historic Art Nouveau building at 103 to 111 Avenue des Champs-Élysées, close to the house’s flagship store –  first drew attention in September this year when Louis Vuitton hosted its Spring-Summer 2024 women’s show at the address, during Paris Fashion Week. 

The announcement arrives after the success of the brand’s first restaurant launch on France’s sophisticated south coast, in Saint Tropez. 

For the past 20 years, the historic building was the home of HSBC bank’s French headquarters.

When it first opened in 1898 the property was, however, originally a hotel. The famous spy Mata Hari was arrested in her room and shot for high treason. It then transitioned into being a bank, before the Nazi occupation took possession of it during World War Two.

Much of the new project will be shrouded in secrecy, with a giant Monogram trunk facade covering the building while it is transformed into the new luxury property over the coming two years.

Getting home safely 

If guests are staying late, you may want to arrange transportation options such as designated drivers, ride-sharing services, or taxis to ensure everyone gets home safely.

A post-party plan

Have a plan for cleaning up after the party. There are plenty of cleaning companies in the UAE, but be sure to schedule ahead of time as they can quickly get booked up during the busy party season.

As 2024 approaches, it’s the perfect time to think about your goals for the year ahead. Making New Year’s resolutions stick can be challenging, but with the right approach, you can increase your chances of success. 

Planning increases your chances of success 

The first step to helping your New Year’s resolutions stand the test of time is to develop a step-by-step plan to achieve your goals. Outline the actions you need to take, and establish a timeline – having a roadmap will keep you on track and motivated. Another important factor is to clearly define your resolutions. Instead of vague goals like “get in shape,” specify what that means to you, such as “exercise for at least 30 minutes, three times a week.” In order to make real progress, you need to make sure your resolutions are achievable and realistic too. Setting overly ambitious goals can set you up for failure. Instead, break down larger goals into smaller, more manageable steps.

Build slowly and track your progress 

When you start out, the big end goal can seem overwhelming. Begin with small changes to build momentum. Once you successfully incorporate these into your routine, you can gradually increase the difficulty or intensity of your goals. Trying to change too many things at once can also be overwhelming. Prioritize your resolutions and concentrate on one at a time. Once you’ve mastered one, move on to the next. Another good tip is to keep a journal or use apps to track your progress. Adjust your plan as needed. And remember that consistency is key to forming new habits. Stick to your plan even on days when motivation is low. Small, regular efforts are more effective than occasional bursts of intense activity.

Seek the help of friends and family

Another key tip is to lean on the support of your nearest and dearest. A good support network can work wonders when it comes to achieving your goals. Share your resolutions with friends or family who can provide encouragement and hold you accountable. Having a support system can make the journey more enjoyable and less isolating.

Learn from your setbacks and celebrate the small wins 

If you encounter obstacles or setbacks, instead of becoming disheartened in achieving your goals, try to see them as learning opportunities. Analyse what went wrong, adjust your plan accordingly and move forward with renewed determination. Change takes time, and setbacks are a natural part of the process. Be patient with yourself, stay persistent, and don’t get discouraged by temporary setbacks. Life is dynamic, and circumstances may change, try to be flexible and willing to adapt your resolutions as needed. It’s okay to reassess and modify your goals to better align with your current situation. Acknowledge your achievements and treat yourself when you reach milestones. Positive reinforcement can help reinforce new behaviours. Another important factor is to celebrate your achievements along the way, and appreciate how far you have come.

Reema Al Banna is the founder and creative talent behind the fashion house Reemami, which she launched in the UAE in 2010. Since then, the house – which specialises in sustainable fashion and lifestyle collections which empower women – has gone from strength to strength. The Palestinian designer sat down with A&E magazine to discuss, the inspiration behind her latest collections, taking her label to Milan and Paris Fashion Week, and what she plans to do next, in 2024 and beyond. 

We last spoke to you in 2020. Please, could you tell us about your journey since then and any standout moments for you?

Oh my gosh. To go back to 2020, [since then] I’ve launched a new collection, which was a deep dive into my identity as a Palestinian who’s living in the diaspora. And it was really interesting to just go back and look into what makes me intrinsically from that culture without actually living there. So, I created a whole collection from that, but I also created a big print fat archive which is inspired by that collection.

I then showed the collection “A TIN OF OLIVE OIL “in Milan. That was really cool. It was my first international runway. It went well.

How was that received by the international audience in Milan? 

The response was great. It was nice because the audience was new. I didn’t know many people in the audience, just a few faces. And the audience complimented the collection, and I received good feedback. That collection was the first time that I’ve worked with Palestinian embroidery, so I commissioned Palestinian women based in refugee camps, they’ve done a very cool embroidery for that collection. 

I then showed a collection recently in Paris this September. It was the second part of the TIN OF OLIVE OIL collection. Which included so many prints. It was my first time to showcase on a Paris runway. And it was fun and special. But then I stopped celebrating it because Palestine got bombed, Gaza got bombed, and I’m from there. My parents are from Gaza, and so I kind of just stopped posting about it.

Do you feel that you have – because of your platform and your brand – a responsibility to communicate the message of Palestinian culture to the world?

Yes, so as designers and creatives, I think we all have a platform, and we have the medium to speak in our own way. It doesn’t have to be super political, but it could be in a way talk about what’s happening that’s not right in the world. And I’ve dug deep into my culture because back in 2019, there was another war on Gaza, and I was like, “So what can I do? Let me do something about it.” And that’s when I dove deep into it.

I just love to share my culture, my upbringing, the food that’s also been taken away a little bit from us. But for us, for my mom, my family, it is a happy place, [with] great memories. And I mean, I think everyone, all designers, and creatives, we have to tell the story in one way or another. I mean, we have the power in our hands to kind of divert and show our truth rather than what the propaganda is showing.

You’ve always been quite diverse as a creative. What other collections have you been working on?

Recently I launched tableware. We created a tablecloth and we launched that with a dinner party. I also have a lot of hobbies which influence my creativity. I wake surf, skate, and also do slacklining, and then got into surf skating. The community kind of led me to surf skating and then to surfing now. So maybe next season it’ll be surfing. 

What is the most important message you try to convey through your different capsules and your different collections?

I love to tell stories. And every time I dive into a new collection, it’s always super personal, but it also has a lot of subliminal messages of empowering women, of a sign of resistance, of helping to give women a voice.

And it’s always there subliminally. Even with my hobbies, I kind of put the dots together yesterday. I’m like, “Even the hobbies that I’ve been trying to tell the stories of, it’s to show the world that women can do everything even at an older age. You can pick up any sport and learn it, and you can reach your goals no matter where you are in your life.” And that’s been a line that connects all my collections in every capsule.

That makes sense with what you said about your tableware and obviously, you have your prints, it’s not strictly just womenswear and menswear. So, is that part of that as well in terms of challenging yourself and learning new things?

Yeah, exactly. I dove into wall art during COVID and it’s doing well. So, the prints and textiles that I’ve created for my collections are now on the walls, which as a person with a graphic design background, just makes a lot of sense. Because I spend around 90% of my time creating prints, and then it’s always last minute. “Okay, the fabrics are all printed, and everything is here, let’s start designing it.” But I also have very deep detailed wood boards, like the Surfskate collection. I have a massive mood board, which includes a lot of things like little elements in the sport. So, there’s a lot of knee pads and shin guards involved, and all these protection elements and helmets and I tried to kind of translate that in the collection. So, it’s kind of a merge with fashion and functionality or utility in menswear, let’s say.

I feel like maybe there’s a nice metaphor there too, about getting back up again when a person faces adversity?

It’s true… and you keep going. It’s true. Oh, my goodness, I haven’t been surfskating a lot. So I’m in a skate park with all these ramps and stuff, every time I unlock a ramp, it’s a little win. And one of the days I fell and I kind of twisted my knee… But then, yeah, that just makes you stronger. And you go back and you’re more focused and you’re like, you’re ready to take the next challenge or ramp, and you just become more alert. It’s amazing.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Honestly, just be more confident with your ideas and go for it. Even if you thought it was the wildest dress. Don’t listen to the boring people. I would tell myself not to limit myself with all the feedback that I used to get… from people who wanted very commercial pieces. I was extremely brave, and I think, confident, by releasing collections that are not very common.

So, pushing the boundaries and pushing the norms always pays off. I mean, even if it’s different, don’t try to fit in anyone else’s shoes or criteria. You will create your own path if you just follow your vision and believe in it. That’s what I would tell myself.

Your designs have been worn by some big names around the world. Is there a look that you are particularly proud of someone wearing?

Honestly, every time I see anybody that comes and shops and buys my clothes, it’s always a little happy energy and dance that I do. It’s just fulfilling to see the clothes. 

I’ve loved seeing my clothes with celebrities. Queen Rania was amazing. She wore two of my items and she carried it so well. And Bella Hadid also wore one of my denim pieces, which I also was a great win for me. But honestly now I’m kind of really focusing on having organic sales right now. Women of all ages are wearing all kinds of brands, they’re here to express themselves. I’m sure you know Iris Apfel? She’s 102 years old, she’s amazing. And she has such a cool, distinctive style. She’s such an inspiration.

What do you have planned for 2024 and are there any creative projects that fans of your label can particularly look forward to?

I’m currently on the production of the last collection I showed in Paris. So definitely watch out for a drop. There will also be an expansion on the collection that was shown on the runway.  I’ll also be creating more capsule pieces, which are easier, smaller pieces, smaller than the dresses and the big items that have a smaller price tag for that, for everyone to just not break their bank. I’m also working on a T-shirt line, but I’m just going to try to make it my way and make it fun and artsy and make it feel good. Not just a T-shirt with a logo on it. You know? What else am I doing in 2024? [My next pop-up] is going to be in one of the cool department stores. So yeah, I’m just working towards that. And then after that, let’s see.

Finding yourself at these filming locations can feel as real as your own biography: it’s the bench on South Bank, overlooking Millenium Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral,  where little Sam talked about his first love, or  Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair where the church choir sang “All You Need is Love” to the newlyweds.

The endless Poplar Road where the Prime Minister knocked on every door in search of his Natalie. The villages of Shere and Godalming, where the British part of the film was shot, in real life look exactly the same as they do on the screen: the fields, hills, cobblestone streets, houses with colourful shutters and moss-covered roofs, the White Horse with a history dating back to 1450 – exists in reality, although it’s even harder to believe in this than the romantic plot of the film with its twists and two happy endings.

Zermatt is home to the iconic Matterhorn, one of the most famous and breathtaking mountains in the world. It’s on the border with Italy, and there are plenty of Michelin and highly rated restaurants on route, to try as you ski between the two countries. The town itself is a chocolate box of beautiful Swiss chalets and sumptuous (yet tasteful) luxury properties. One of the interesting facts about Zermatt is that it is totally car-free, creating a charming and peaceful atmosphere. Visitors rely on electric taxis, horse-drawn carriages, and their own two feet to get around, enhancing the tranquillity of the alpine setting.

Val D’Isere, France

Val d’Isère is one of the most chic resorts in France. Set in a picturesque alpine valley the hub is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. The breathtaking landscapes contribute to the overall appeal of the destination, providing lucky skiers with a visually captivating backdrop. Out of the destinations featured, Val d’Isère is certainly better suited to the more advanced skiers. The area is renowned for its challenging and varied terrain, making it particularly appealing to advanced and expert skiers. It’s also known for its off-piste opportunities, including the famous La Face de Bellevarde, which has hosted World Cup races.

Paris, France

The French capital is known for being one of the most romantic cities on the planet, and during the winter season, Paris becomes truly magical. The city’s Montmartre is one of the best areas to head to during the festive holidays. There is a festive market here too, along with another popular one in the city’s beating heart – the Champs-Élysées. Two other festive areas to take in the spectacular illuminations are the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré and the Place Vendôme. If you plan to see in the New Year in the City of Light, be sure to stop by the Eiffel Tower which will be illuminated with a spectacular show at midnight or join in with the lively celebration on the nearby Champs-Élysées to welcome in 2024. Paris, of course, is also known for being one of the best gastronomic cities in Europe. During the festive season, several delightful dishes come to prominence on Parisian menus, including bûche de noël, gratin dauphinois and the city’s famous chocolate chaud. Lisbon, Portugal 

Lisbon is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe during the festive season. Wander through the Baixa and Chiado districts and see the city come alive with colourful decorations, creating a festive and joyful ambience. Be sure to check out the various festive markets that pop up around the city. The markets offer local crafts, gifts, and traditional Portuguese treats, with markets at Praça do Comércio and Rossio Square being two of the best to visit during the festive season. Throughout the winter months, the Gulbenkian Foundation also holds special concerts which are worth booking a ticket to go and see. Equally, the city’s popular Terreiro do Paço transforms into a festival village with decorations, a tree, and holiday activities for both children and adults. Those who enjoy taking to the ice should head to the festive ice rink set up in Parque Eduardo VII, which comes with beautiful views of the city as a backdrop. While in Lisbon, be sure to take in a Fado performance, which is part of the rich musical tradition in the city. There are plenty of Fado houses across the city, which during the holidays often showcase special festive shows. To truly appreciate Lisbon’s historic decorated streets, take a ride on the city’s iconic Tram 28 which weaves through some of the most beautiful parts of the city. If you have time to explore further afield, book-in a day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sintra, which is close by and home to the country’s best palaces and woodland grounds, and is dressed in beautiful decorations during the holiday season. Delicious Portuguese flavours can be found at Michelin-starred Cura restaurant, which will be leading the way this holiday season with its festive-inspired tasting menu. Chef Pedro Pena Bastos creates artisanal dishes of great depth and flavour using locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Meanwhile, the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon offers one of the most memorable holiday stays in the Portuguese capital. London, England

London comes alive during the festive season. The crisp winter weather and attractive architecture which is steeped in history make it one of the most aesthetic places to spend the holiday season. London is known for putting on one of the best lights displays in the world, with spectacular locations across the city including everywhere from Oxford Street, Regent Street, and Carnaby Street to Covent Garden and Seven Dials. Throughout the year there are incredible performances at the British capital’s Royal Albert Hall and during the holiday season, there are a slew of festive shows to take in. Prague, Czech Republic

Situated in the heart of Europe, Prague is one of the most spectacular cities to visit during the winter months. The capital of the Czech Republic is full of festive cheer, with snow-lined and festive decor. Wrap up warm and explore the enchanting Christmas markets in Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square. These markets are filled with wooden stalls selling handmade crafts, traditional Czech food, and holiday treats. From Old Town, traverse the Charles Bridge where you will have panoramic views of Petřín Hill and Prague Castle while enjoying the festive lighting and city architecture. For the best views in the city, climb to the top of the hill, where you can explore the historic outdoor courtyards and buildings which during December are dressed for the holiday season. For a unique view of the city take a festive boat cruise along the Vltava River to see the city’s landmarks beautifully lit up. During the holiday season, many boat companies offer holiday bespoke packages.
