Tashkeel – a leading creative interior design hub in the UAE – is showcasing a series of thought-provoking works by leading UAE-based designers at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai.
Each piece in the capsule incorporates the key themes from the summit of sustainability and environmentally-friendly design.
The pieces on display at COP28 include:
Doroob (Coffee table + dining table): by Mohamed Elnaggar & Maryam Elattar
Location: COP28 North Hall 2
Doroob reflects the potential of the circular economy. The multifunctional design is inspired by the meaning of ‘Doroob,’ an Arabic term describing the various ways to reach a destination. The materials used are reclaimed from construction and infrastructure projects in addition to fired clay reclaimed from pottery studios across the UAE.
“The piece gives the slightest nod to the brutalist facades so prevalent in the architecture of the UAE of the 1970’s and 1980’s that endures to this day across the country’s urban landscapes. Our aim is to nudge people’s consciousness of the journey of materials and trigger a conversation around production processes, as our contribution to the sustainability movement,” said artist Maryam Elattar.
Alchemy Series (Dining table): by Chinara Darwish

Location: COP28 North Hall 2
The Alchemy Series is made from 100 percent locally sourced marine industry and construction LDPE (low density polyethylene) waste sourced from redundant materials. Designed with sustainability as a core driving force, the eight-seater dining table is a bespoke piece.
“The common perception of plastic is that it is very cheap, unsustainable and has a short lifecycle. However, these problems are not inherent in the material, rather it is how we use it. Plastic is incredibly versatile and heat resistant, so why not upcycle UAE’s plastic waste into new products with longer lifecycles? The mission behind my furniture is to give a second life to waste materials,” said artist Chinara Darwish.
Kaseeriya (bench + stool): by Ebrahim Assur
Location: COP28 Leadership Pavilion
Kaseeriya is a bench and stool set made from HDF, plyboard and recycled cork and covered with Palmade bioplastics. Driven by sustainability and inspired by the UAE, the Kaseeriya bench embodies the essence of simplicity and elegance and signifies unity, strength and togetherness.
“My inspiration is derived from interacting with various surroundings, in a unique way. Each of my designs are created around a particular theme depending on what I am influenced by or what the design intent is for,” said artist Ebrahim Assur.
Yereed (bench): by Lina Ghalib

Location: COP28 Leadership Pavilion
The arish bench-seat ‘Yereed,’ which debuted at Dubai Design Week 2020, cultivates and reclaims palm leaf branches that are shed seasonally in the UAE and turns this waste into a hardwood material structurally sound to create furniture.
The Liminal Series (table): by Hala Al Ani
Location: COP28 Leadership Pavilion
The Liminal Series use salt formations to create a series of tables. The salt crystals are grown on metal structures to lend the material the necessary strength to be used as a table without controlling it.
Mokaعab (modular table/shelf): by Lana El Samman
Location: COP28 Leadership Pavilion
Mokaعab is a modular table or shelf that takes cues from Sharjah’s rich cultural heritage by using the traditional weaving technique of dried palm fronds. The weaving technique of dried palm fronds (khoos) practiced by women has historically been used for wall and ceiling decorations, floor mats, handheld fans, food covers and baskets among other everyday objects.
Braided Series (sofa): by Latifa Saeed
Location: COP28 Leadership Pavilion
The Braided Series Sofa is made from braided cushion tubes over a wooden frame, integrating a contemporary form with characteristic elements of traditional UAE craft practices. The labour-intensive process of weaving is a strong trait across Emirati crafts. The Braided Series pays homage by intertwining modern fabrics to upholster a range of contemporary furniture designs.
Saint Laurent has revealed its largest and newest boutique at its historic home in Paris on the Champs-Élysées.
“I wanted to realize one of Yves Saint Laurent’s wishes when he arrived in Paris and said he wanted his name to be written in fiery letters on the Champs-Élysées,” explained Anthony Vaccarello.

With this boutique, Anthony Vaccarello introduces an entirely new design concept which aims to instil a sense of discovery at one of the world’s most emblematic addresses, while celebrating the essence of the original architectural elements.

Among the boutique’s many highlights are a double-height foyer featuring a neon light sculpture by artist Cerith Wyn Evans and commissioned by Saint Laurent, a variety of sensuous surfaces and curving staircases in black-lacquered wood, and a serene private garden accessible to clients. Giorgio Armani has unveiled the house’s latest Privé Haute Joaillerie collection.
The new jewellery pieces showcase the house’s aptitude for masterful craftsmanship combined with exceptional research and design.

In a process of simplification of lines, here exact and geometric, this new collection reinvents forms through an unusual, free and elegant use of gems.

The particularity of the design in this collection lies in the invisible setting, which creates surprising pavé motifs, emphasising the colour and radiance of the gemstones.

The latest Privé Haute Joaillerie consists of three monochrome series: blue, with sapphires and diamonds paired with white gold; green, with tsavorites and diamonds paired with yellow gold; and red, with rubies and diamonds paired with rose gold.

This summer Celine was forced to cancel the house’s Men’s Summer 24 show, following a series of riots in Paris.
In response, Hedi Slimane shot a film the same month between Paris and Monaco to accompany the new season’s collection.

The result was his “Delusional DayDream” collection through the lens of the “The Show That Never Happened” video.

Scenes were shot at La Gaite Lyrique and Le Grand Rex in Paris, as well as at the Monte-Carlo Opera Garnier, featuring classical ballet dancer Laurids Seidel.

Everything in the new video is the creative work of the house’s versatile designer, Hedi Slimane, who was the creative eye behind the film, photography, casting, collection, styling and set design.

The Chanel 2023/24 Métiers d’art collection was revealed in the north of England today.
The show, which was held in Manchester evoked a love story that has existed between Chanel and Great Britain that has lasted for over a century.

The show celebrated British culture, city life in Manchester and of course – Chanel’s iconic house codes.

Tweed was integral to the collection. As Virginie Viard explained in the show notes: “ I thought a lot about Gabrielle Chanel but I didn’t want to recreate Coco’s look when she was wearing the Duke of Westminster’s jackets. I took my cue from the Coco who brought colour to her tweeds. I added a vibrant, pop spirit to them.”

Manchester’s reputation for being a hub for music culture also played big in the show. “For me, Manchester is the city of music, explained Viard. It incites to creation.”

The show took place in Thomas Street, in the North of the city, at dusk, hence the importance being heeded to colour.

The collection is all about feelings. Suits, bags and strings of pearls align around a shimmering, pop palette. Salmon pink, pumpkin, apple green, mustard, sky blue, red and rust light up a horizon that is all at once feminine and singular. Instead of a rock look, the Artistic Director focused on the poetry of emotions with a dash of the sixties.

According to the house, Viard wanted this 2023/24 Métiers d’art collection faithful to the House codes. In addition to each of the codes that make it so modern – the chains at the bottom of the jackets, the contrasting inner fabrics, and the multiple topstitched panels allowing for great freedom of movement – the collection is a celebration of Gabrielle Chanel’s own art of tailoring. Even the tops of the skirts are in the same fabric as the inside of the jackets and coats, offering a continuity of line to the gaze.

In the collection there are also ideas which centre upon Great Britain too. Wraparound skirts, miniskirts with godets, Bermuda shorts, shirts, coat-dresses all featured in tweed, knitwear in Shetland and cashmere. Cuts are fitted, and skirt waists are worn slightly low on the hips.

Pleats, feathers and embroidery work along with hats and jewelled buttons crafted by the Métiers d’art resident at le19M enhance the allure of this collection. Teapots, vinyl records and cute flowers all add fun touches. The collection dares a certain candour with black Mary-Jane shoes. Jeans, leather, and knitwear including babydoll nighties and strapless dresses complete the ensemble, investing domains as varied as football, Manchester’s music scene or the English countryside.
Chanel has unveiled a series of photographs taken in Manchester by Jamie Hawkesworth.
The series reveals the first looks from the French house’s 2023/24 Métiers d’art show that it is holding today.

Under the creative direction of Chanel ambassador Sofia Coppola, the British photographer staged a group of young Mancunians in the first silhouettes of the collection by Virginie Viard.

Key pieces included a black T-shirt dress featuring an embroidered crest, and a fine velvet jersey sweater embellished with a pleated plastron which is dotted with tweed ribbons.

Jackets include multicolour Lesage tweed, woven with denim ribbons or bouclette threads in shades of pink with matching caps.

Meanwhile, knitted looks in pastel tones rub shoulders with Chanel suits in shimmering nuances of pop red, mustard yellow and lilac.
Dior has unveiled its new boutique at the Mall of the Emirates. The large Dior store offers access to all aspects of the house’s codes, from the ready-to-wear and accessories dreamed up by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Kim Jones to the timepieces and high jewellery of Victoire de Castellane, and the art de vivre creations signed by Dior Maison.
The incredible space honours the heritage of the house, while also showcasing ultra-contemporary refinement with Dior style, including the Versailles parquet flooring which is reminiscent of the iconic 30 Montaigne.

The elegant space is bathed in light hues, combining boldness and sophistication, punctuated by pieces of furniture in soft shades of white, cream, blue and grey.

Perpetuating the connections between Dior and art, the various spaces are also dappled with magnetic works offering an enticing opportunity for a leisurely meander.

The new boutique is an exceptional space which celebrates the magic of the Dior dream.
This week Prada launched the “Pradasphere II”, a public exhibition tracing the history and culture of Prada from its origins in 1913 to the present day.
Located at the Start Museum in Shanghai, China, the exhibition showcases a selection of stories curated by co-creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons.
There are more than 400 artefacts — physical and digital — on display, drawn from the fashion archive as well as decades-long engagements across art, architecture, culture, and sport.

Building on the success of the first iteration in 2014, this exhibition follows the groundbreaking trajectory of Prada, exploring the indelible impact of its vision on luxury, beauty, and fashion as an intellectual act.
Staged as a lush magazzino (the Italian word for warehouse), Pradasphere II is a cross-section of the multivalent Prada universe. Created in collaboration with 2×4, the New York City and Beijing-based design studio, the exhibition juxtaposes the rough and refined: constructed of industrial warehouse shelving lined with precious pink silk velvet. Together, the exhibition puts forward a way of thinking about luxury: fashion intersects with life — history, art, sport, architecture, and sound.

The exhibition depicts Prada through accumulation, close examination, and hospitality. Diverse elements reveal the themes and ideas core to Prada. Some explore deep craft and skilled making, others reveal the manifold aesthetic contradictions at the heart of the brand, while some explore Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’s ongoing quest to challenge traditional notions of luxury.
Sharing new perspectives on 110 years of history, the exhibition grants unparalleled, firsthand access into the brand’s past, present, and future.
Pradasphere II is free and is open now until 21st January 2024.
Moynat has revealed an exclusive rendition of Canvas 1920, for the holiday season.
The new collection is a whimsical ode to the allure of journeys and pays tribute to the iconic Canvas 1920.

The M monogram canvas dons the finery of travel patches reminiscent of bygone-era trunks, conjuring the opulent era of exploration, where each destination cradled the allure of discovery.

The collection extends an invitation to traverse the corridors of time, guided by enchanting hand-written serigraphy that recalls cherished postcards addressed to Moynat’s Parisian flagship store – each piece a singular keepsake of wanderlust.

The holiday collection graces Canvas 1920 in two timeless palettes: Carbon/Silver and Carbon/Bronze. To round out the ensemble, the leather offerings gleam in both gold and silver, adding a touch of glamour to the enchantment of the season.
The French Riviera is a destination like no other, in summer and winter alike. This holiday season, this coastline so dear to FRED’s heart is being imagined in a magnificent veil of ice for the new campaign.
Shot in an ice rink the campaign celebrates the house codes and takes inspiration both from the French Riviera and the magical beauty of ice.

As if by magic, its landscapes are undergoing a transformation and shining beneath the sun’s rays with a new radiance.

Discussing the new campaign in the notes which accompanied the photoshoot, the house said: “The scintillating beauty of this unexpected and magical spot mirrors that of the jewellery, ready to be revealed whilst we share this moment together. In this festive atmosphere, the infinite blues of the Riviera that have so inspired FRED Blue take on icy and yet blazingly warm shades. A vibrant moment of joie de vivre and sharing, simultaneously sun-filled and ice-cold to reflect the Maison’s infamously mischievous side.”
The Michelin Guide Abu Dhabi 2024 has revealed three new entries in its guide, including a new Michelin Star restaurant.
The second edition of the guide was announced this week in the UAE capital.

Emirati restaurant Erth was awarded one Michelin Star and joins three other restaurants in Abu Dhabi which have retained their star from last year’s inaugural Guide.
Two further restaurants – Oii and Al Mrzab – were also recognised with the Guide’s commendable Bib Gourmand achievement, bringing the total in the capital to six in this category.
Abu Dhabi’s exponential growth is accompanied by increasing numbers of new openings in the city, with an impressively diverse culinary scene and 21 different types of cuisine.

“Our inspectors continue to be impressed by the dynamism of Abu Dhabi and the sheer variety of cuisines on offer. Our newest recipient of a Michelin Star, Erth restaurant, sums up the city so well, as it offers a truly unique experience inspired by the beauty and traditions of the region,” explains Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of The Michelin Guides.
Montblanc has unveiled several new additions to the house’s signature Meisterstück Collection. The latest Meisterstück assortment features a new ink blue colour, a vibrant tone that pays homage to the liquid fuel that powers the writing experience.
In the same spirit, it was also an ink-stained heritage glass bottle found in the Montblanc archives that inspired Artistic Director Marco Tomasetta to introduce a captivating sfumato effect to a selection of Meisterstück leather pieces.

Available in a warm burgundy colour and a modern forged iron colour, the sfumato effect softly transitions from darker colours at the bottom of the bag to lighter tones at the top, evoking the process of ink slowly diffusing into paper. As the effect is manually applied via airbrush on the finished leather at the end of the production process, each sfumato piece is rendered one-of-a-kind and becomes a testament to craftsmanship nurtured over time.

“The visual identity of this collection is rooted in the iconic design elements of one of the most celebrated symbols of writing culture. As a collection that is always evolving, the latest pieces explore an additional dimension of writing with colours and effects directly inspired by the beauty of ink and the effect it creates as it takes hold. The importance placed on the functional value of each piece to its owner is reflected in the selection of new shapes and styles that make these pieces versatile and adaptable,” said Marco Tomasetta, the Montblanc Artistic Director.
At this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach, Louis Vuitton will present a selection of the works that legendary Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry has produced during his wide-ranging and longstanding collaboration with the Maison.
The specially designed booth in which the works will be presented embodies his trademark aesthetic and his constant experimentation with forms.

Wood and cardboard models that have always been central to the architect’s design process find their form in the scenography, while five enveloping sail-like mesh structures nod to Gehry’s 2014 window displays for the Maison.

Organized into four themes dear to Frank Gehry – Architecture and Form, Material Exploration, Animals, and his Twisted Box creation for “Celebrating Monogram”– the objects on display include handbags, trunks, perfume bottles, original artworks, preparatory sketches, and architectural models.
This holiday season, Chloé looks to its rich archives for a festive 2023 collection, taking inspiration from an iconic Fall/Winter 1983 Chloé design by the late Karl Lagerfeld, the Maison’s former Creative Director.
The collection sees a rhinestone-studded arrow embroidered across a black jersey dress, the festive collection is animated by a modern twist on the shimmering arrow motif.

Also starring in the capsule are two further symbols associated with the Maison: the embellished guitar, which finds its origins in a Spring/Summer 1983 Lagerfeld dress design for Chloé; and the oversized ribbon bow, which cinched the waists of multiple looks in the Fall 2004 collection designed by Phoebe Philo, and became a house signature during her tenure at Chloé between 2001 and 2006.

Traced in rhinestones and crystals, the arrow motif that once energised Lagerfeld’s jersey dress galvanises the festive collection. Originally reinterpreted on a black column dress for the actor Maude Apatow, Chloé’s guest at the Lagerfeld-themed Met Gala 2023, the embellished arrow now appears across ready-to-wear, bags, shoes and jewellery.

The festive collection will be available in boutiques and on Chloe.com now.

Balenciaga unveiled its Fall 2024 collection in Los Angeles this weekend.
The lineup was revealed on a palm tree-lined street and scored by BFRND with a custom track featuring multiple voiceovers, illustrating Demna’s interpretation of L.A.’s fashion codes through a cinematic, character-driven lens.
For this collection, Demna was inspired by everyday activities – such as jogging, yoga and gym sessions, and then cross-referenced them with Hollywood evenings in LA.
The result was a collection which spoke both of glamour and ergonomic ease.
In between, sections of updated grunge, upscaled daywear and signature tailoring were also revealed.
Activewear

Items are straightforward: shorts, bra tops, leggings and sweatshirts are included. A jersey section follows. This portion nods to the American velour tracksuit trend and celebrity street-style photographs of the aughts. New versions of the suit suggest low-slung trousers – some low enough to reveal undergarments beneath – and cropped hooded jackets. Knee-high Alaska boots are added.
Neo-grunge

Garments are oversized and layered. Highlight items include cut-up asymmetric trousers, a hand-embroidered leopard-motif coat, outdoor hotel slippers and leather bags lined with nylon shopper totes. Upscaled daywear, outsize proportions and precise tailoring – many pieces with flattened square shoulders or styled as tweed sets – bridge informality and glamour. One hooded jacket has an integrated scarf, which can be used for paparazzi deterrence.
Eveningwear

Shapes and silhouettes are highly defined, and many of the garments fuse past and present by referencing original designs made by Cristobal Balenciaga himself. Wrapped coat- dresses cut an angular, plush form, while tailored one-shoulder gowns impart a softer impression. The final look furthers the incognito element: a monumental white gown in heavy white satin with a structured face shield.

For the second time this year, the Maison Piaget has called upon the genius of illustrator Yukiko Noritake to enhance their latest creations.
After collaborating with Piaget in the summer to celebrate the brilliantly iconic Possession collection and the honeyed tones of their Gala wristwatches and High Jewellery cuff watches on the shores of the Riviera, Yukiko Noritake has imagined and illustrated a new campaign in which Piaget’s enchanted talismans truly come alive.

With her keen eye and unique inspiration, the artist has taken a fun and creative approach, encouraging the world to discover or rediscover the Maison Piaget’s most beautiful and iconic pieces. Her work recalls some of the most memorable artistic encounters within the Piaget Society in the 60s and 70s, with true “Extraleganza”: Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali and Swiss painter Hans Erni.

Blending the traditional and the contemporary, this magical journey begins in La Côte-Aux-Fées, the cradle of the Maison Piaget and still its beating heart, before taking flight to the shores of the Côte d’Azur and lighting up the night owls of Paris and New York.

Highlights included the first public display of the new Panamera and the unveiling of a special ‘Sonderwunsch’ 911 Turbo that paid homage to the first-ever 911 Turbo.
“The passion and strength of the Porsche community in our region was again on display at this year’s Icons of Porsche,” said Dr Manfred Bräunl, Chief Executive Officer of Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE.

“Our third edition of this event was our biggest yet. We would like to thank every single event attendee for joining our celebration.
“In particular, I want to thank every Porsche owner who exhibited their car on-site. We truly appreciate their support and commitment to sharing their ‘dream’ sports car with our festival audience. This year Icons of Porsche offered more colour, more cars, more fans and more passion than ever before. This sensational event is now not only the biggest classic car gathering in the Middle East, it has cemented itself as one of the ‘must do’ events on the global car culture events calendar.”

Regional premiere at this year’s Icons of Porsche included the 718 Spyder RS and Vision 357 Speedster concept. Also on hand were the all-electric Mission X hypercar concept, the 911 S/T and a host of cars from the Porsche Museum collection.
Event attendees enjoyed attractions from the eight festival zones: 60 Years of 911, Esports Arena, The Pit Lane, The Boulevard, Mission X, Porsche Museum heritage truck, Art Beach and the new Panamera Cube.
