Dubai Opera To Host Mosaic International Dance Festival Of Ballet

Dubai Opera will come alive with grace, artistry, and the beauty of ballet as the Mosaic International Dance Festival takes centre stage on the 8th and 9th of November, marking the grand launch of this annual cultural spectacle.

This festival will kick off with two mesmerizing shows that provide an astonishing prelude to the upcoming seasons: The “Bloom Dance Project” by Natalia Osipova and the “Legend and Legacy of Nureyev,” accompanied by the Birmingham Royal Ballet Orchestra and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia.

The festival will open with the captivating “Bloom Dance” project by Natalia Osipova, one of the most celebrated ballerinas of her generation. Osipova’s program features a mesmerizing display of solos and duets, ranging from timeless classics to brilliant new ballets.

Natalia Osipova, principal ballerina for The Royal Ballet in London shared her excitement saying: “It is of great significance to me and my company, the Bloom Dance Project, to unite artists, directors and choreographers from various drama theatres, each representing a wide array of genres and art forms such as neoclassicism, modernism, and classical ballet. Together, we craft innovative works that seamlessly blend the talents of dancers with a creative team dedicated to inspiring and promoting the diverse art of dance to a broader audience. I am truly thrilled for the opportunity to debut this program in Dubai as part of the Mosaic International Dance Festival.”

On the second day of the opening, the festival pays homage to the legendary dancer and global icon, Rudolf Nureyev. Presented in association with the Rudolf Nureyev Foundation, the “Legend and Legacy of Nureyev” show features a new generation of dancers that offers a captivating glimpse into the magic and artistry of the internationally celebrated dancer.

Founder of Mosaic, Valerii Copeichin, expressed his vision for the festival: “Dance is an integral aspect of civilized society. Humans began expressing their sensations and perceptions of the world through dance before they learned to convey them through words. If dance were to die, the understanding of life itself would perish.”

Buccellati Announces The Spectacular Macri Bombé Mini Collection

The Italian luxury jewellery house Buccellati has unveiled the new ‘Macri Bombé’ mini-collection.

The original Marci Bombé collection arrived 40 years ago, inspired by the simple elegance of Gianmaria Buccellati’s daughter Maria Cristina (the name Macri is made up of the first syllables of her two names). Gianmaria tried to interpret his own feelings and followed their flow until he created extremely refined jewellery that was born deep in his heart.

The latest release is a  reinterpretation and evolution of this refined design with original lines and a slight curvature of the gold surface, which retains the ‘rigato’ engraving and the rhythmic presence of brilliant diamonds.

The fabulous mini-collection includes several bracelets, with band heights of 5mm or 8mm, in various combinations of gold, in the purest Buccellati tradition.

Key colour codes in the new collections include yellow, pink and white gold.

The new pieces champion soft and light engravings, an iconic style and top-quality materials combine to make true Italian excellence recognisable.

Azza Al Qubaisi, will be hosting an exclusive workshop at the 30th annual edition of the Jewellery & Watch Show (JWS) in Abu Dhabi this November.

The session will include using cuttlefish bone, a material prized for its ability to withstand high temperatures, to carve moulds for silver.

Throughout the workshop, participants can expect to learn about basic jewellery techniques, cultural traditions, classic styles, and artistic movements that have been employed by different designers throughout the history of the jewellery-making process.

Loro Piana Reveals The House’s Holiday Collection

Winter atmospheres, leisure and festive spirit. Loro Piana’s Holiday Collection opens the season of snowy holidays and explores the quintessence of life in the open air, which is part of the Maison’s DNA, enriched with a refined note: the suits dedicated to New Year’s Eve celebrations.

For the first time, the suits are presented in a sensual wardrobe of silhouettes with embracing textures.

The yarns are the iconic ones of the Maison – Cashmere Coarsehair®, Shearling, Cashfur, Baby Cashmere – which, embellished with handcrafted embroideries, create versatile and contemporary garments that allow you to enjoy freedom of movement. For her, the silhouettes are tactile, fluffy and light, hugging the body with softness.

The Gadiel jogger pants, the Azelie coat and the Yury jacket, finely embroidered with multicoloured printed bouclé yarn, are in shearling, while the Ursel trousers and the Niyen sweater are in Cashfur, a silk and cashmere blend, a masterpiece of softness.

Feminine, modern and timeless lines also characterize cashmere garments: from the Engadin trousers, embellished with a rich crochet-like motif that adds volume and movement to the leg, to the Engelberg turtleneck, entirely hand-stitched with embossed trims for a 3D fur effect.

Another protagonist is the Tapestry Bloom turtleneck in cashmere and mohair with a stylised floral pattern, hand-brushed to enhance the natural hairiness of the yarn and give a shaded effect to the printed pattern.

For him, turtlenecks in Baby Cashmere and sweaters in Cashfur, combined with stretch cotton trousers, reveal a sumptuous mix of materials that are soft to the touch and perfectly calibrated for the coldest months of the year. Loro Piana also explores new stylistic frontiers through innovative fabrics, in a perfect balance between masculine and feminine, versatility and savoir-faire, function and comfort.

Examples include reversible jackets such as the Mitty sports down jacket in Superlight Nylon for men and women and the Joni women’s jacket in Cashfur and Superlight Nylon.

Ski masks, shearling hats and soft, long-haired sheepskin after-ski boots add a lively touch to the collection.

Carolina Herrera Announces A New Collab With Emirati Marwa Al Hashem

Carolina Herrera has joined together with well-known Emirati personality Marwa Al Hashem for the launch of the house’s latest fragrance.

Discussing the launch, the house said in a statement: The Carolina Herrera Confidential fragrance embodies the essence of sophistication and luxury, and the collaboration with Marwa Al Hashem adds a distinct Emirati touch to this captivating fragrance. The regional shooting showcases the fusion of cultures, capturing the spirit of modern elegance and beauty.”

According to Carolina Herrara the scent – which is called “Mystery Tabacoo” – was inspired by the magic of “incomplete memories” with its fruity notes and its smoky atmosphere inspired by the story of Pepito Herrera, an uncle of Reinaldo Herrera of La Hacienda La Vega, the emblematic Caracas estate linked to the family where Carolina Herrera resided during part of her youth, and what later inspired her to create the namesake fashion brand.

“He was like the Phileas Fogg of the family; every time I sat in front of the world map that Dad had in his office and pointed to any point on the planet, someone told me that ‘Uncle Pepito had been there,'” recalls Carolina A. Herrera. “From Egypt to Japan, from Patagonia to Alaska, from Turkey to Madagascar, there was always a story, a memory or an anecdote that referred to Pepito, a man of whom I barely remember a few features: he always dressed exceptionally elegantly, with a cross suit and English shoes, he knew several languages and he used to use a fragrance of vetiver whose wake was mixed with that of the blond tobacco he smoked in exquisitely designed pipes that he had collected on his travels around the world,” she says.

OVS x PIOMBO Launches Their Fall/Winter 2023 Collection

OVS and Massimo Piombo have continued their collaboration this season with the unveiling of their FW23 collection.

Introducing an exciting surprise for men this season, Massimo Piombo, known for his avant-garde use of colour, presents a new interpretation of “classic” centred around a palette of greys, whites, and beiges.

These shades complement the collection’s blue velvet pea coats, cable sweaters, flannel pants, camel coats, and twilled blazers, giving birth to a “premium” look suitable for offices and beyond.

The collection includes “wear-anywhere” sheepskin, soft-shade sweaters, a variety of flannel and velvet shirts, work jackets, a cloth parka, Prince of Wales check and houndstooth coats in elegant grey-black or brown-camel, checkered patterns, and oversized shoes. Native American blanket styles inspire heritage patterns, and coordinated jackets, coats, and gilets create the epitome of sophistication in men’s fashion.

For women, PIOMBO embraces the concept of timelessness, featuring a range of references and ideas perfectly suited for the upcoming season and further on. PIOMBO’s designs are not just about fashion; they embody beauty, style, and an element of surprise. The collection begins with a dazzling “preview,” offering a glimpse of new items designed for starry nights and special occasions, from summer to New Year’s Eve.

Massimo Piombo, founder of PIOMBO said: “My stories are all about life reflected in chunky knits, blazers, jackets, coats, trousers. Items with bags of personality to interpret as you feel, using your own cultural references. It’s a collection that looks to the idea of beauty, taking Europe, and its northern isles, France, and Ireland as its references. A journey through time, with Byzantine details and modern research into materials and solutions. Looking for a new aesthetic that adds to life’s charm, making it easier too, with pieces you can wear on a whole range of occasions. It’s an alternative, purely sensual vision of style.”

The Phoebe Philo Effect Is Back With Her Debut Collection Selling Out In Half A Day

This week, Phoebe Philo returned to the fashion world with the debut of her first collection from her eponymous brand.

The Pheobe Philo Effect appeared to still be in full effect,  with the collection selling out in mere hours, despite no physical launch, no marketing fanfare around the collection and not a single post on the fashion house’s official Instagram account.

Her devoted fan base even has its own name – known as Philophiles – who have sort to scope up every piece of “old Céline” since her departure from the label in 2018. Her cult following even has dedicated Instagram pages to the designer’s work using the handles @phoebephiloarchives and @oldceline amongst others.

Perhaps part of the appeal of Philo, is that, unlike many houses which venerate youth, her designs instead feel like a celebration of the lesser-tapped market of fully-fledged womanhood. Many of the Philophiles are mature 30-and-40-something women, with the spending power to buy Philo’s designs.

With the launch of her own fashion house, it also feeds into Philo’s narrative of female empowerment, which has weaved its way through much of her work.

Furthermore, much to the delight of the Philophiles, her new designs continue much of what Philo’s fanbase loved from her ten-year tenure at Céline – sleek, chic subtle (but by no means quiet) – luxury.

No doubt her debut collection will be the start of a new era for the Philophiles, and the start of a new fashion legacy.

Lionel Messi Wears Louis Vuitton’s New Tambour Timepiece To Accept Ballon d’Or

This week, Lionel Messi wore a custom Louis Vuitton new Tambour watch to accept the 2023 Ballon d’Or® which was presented in the Louis Vuitton Official Trophy Trunk.

In late spring of 2023, Louis Vuitton moved into a new era of contemporary watchmaking with the relaunch of the Maison’s core timepiece collection, the Tambour Certain visual emblems of the Tambour, such as its drum-shaped case with curved sides, the bezel marked with the twelve Louis Vuitton letters, and the bold volume of its vertical profile, were retained as part of the collection’s essential codes.

Other aspects were reworked and reinterpreted, and — most significantly — an integrated bracelet was introduced to recast the Tambour in the modern morphology of sporty-elegant watchmaking.

Adding to the two models in steel are three new Tambour references: one in steel and rose gold with a grey dial, one in rose gold with a brown dial, and one in yellow gold with a white dial

While the steel models demonstrate the exceptional purity of the new Tambour design, the gold models elucidate its refined character and elegance.

Taking place from 1-5 November at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), JWS is expected to welcome approximately 7,000 jewellery enthusiasts to its exhibition throughout the five days.

The iconic industry event has long served as a launching platform for both new collections and up-and-coming talent, with a dedicated audience that shares a passion for cultivating conversation around jewellery-making traditions, techniques, and trends.

Here, leaders in the industry offer a sneak preview of what to expect from their brands at the show:

Mr. Mohammed Tamjid Abdulla, Deputy CEO of Jawhara Jewellery LLC

“We’re delighted to participate for the first time at the Jewellery and Watch Show in Abu Dhabi. Our diverse collection boasts exceptional pieces, expertly crafted from Gold, Pearl, and Natural Diamonds. Jawhara is glad to present an exclusive offer for the first time at JWS Abu Dhabi, a remarkable 60 percent discount on selected Diamond and Pearl Jewellery alongside our international collections showcased at JWS Abu Dhabi.

As an Emirati jewellery company with a rich, century-long legacy in crafting exquisite jewellery, we are deeply rooted in the Emirates. We deeply appreciate and embrace the traditions and culture that beautifully resonate in our jewellery and the wider industry, we’ve even modernised traditional jewellery designs.

Stay tuned for the grand reveal of our latest collection exclusively at JWS Abu Dhabi.

Jawhara, as a proud partner of the Natural Diamonds Council, adheres to stringent industry regulations and places ethical sourcing and sustainability at the forefront of our priorities.

Moreover, Jawhara is dedicated to social responsibility through investments in staff development and training programmes, especially in sales and marketing, while consistently creating numerous job opportunities each year.”

Giulia Callegari, Brand Director of Ferri Firenze

“We are pleased to be back in the region for our annual apportionment in Abu Dhabi, to present our latest collections. Introducing three to four new collections each season demands immense effort from our creative team and craftsmen. However, participating in JWS Abu Dhabi makes all this hard work incredibly worth it.

One collection that stands out is Lucciole. It features hand-painted enamel adorned with a vibrant array of sapphires and diamonds, reminiscent of an Italian summer garden. Crafting each piece is an intricate process that entails several hours of meticulous work and involves over 24 intricate steps. Lucciole is a true embodiment of our commitment to not only showcasing the finest Italian creativity but also delivering the highest level of quality.

Spicchi is yet another collection we’re introducing. Shaped like a half-moon with depictions of moon phases, it holds a special place in our hearts. Personally, having relocated to this region and with my mother, who is the founder, visiting Abu Dhabi since the late ’90s, we’ve both been fascinated by the cultural significance of the moon in local traditions and celebrations. Moreover, the slender crescent moon that graces the dunes in places like Qasr Al Sarab in the deep Abu Dhabi desert has been visually captivating.

It’s heartening to hear JWS’ interest in sustainability. We strongly believe in the importance of sustainability. We recognise that we don’t inherit the planet from our ancestors; we merely borrow it from our children. This belief drives us to ensure that we leave our planet in a better state than we found it. Sustainability for us goes beyond addressing pollution and embracing sustainable crafting practices. It also involves nurturing the next generation of artisans, respecting individuals, fostering personal and professional growth, and enabling working women to achieve a harmonious work-life balance. These aspects are deeply meaningful to us.”

Utkarsh Parasrampuria, Creative Partner at Amarkosh Jewels

“Amarkosh has proudly introduced a new collection of lightweight luxury items that we are excited to offer a sneak peek of at JWS. This collection stands out for its versatility and universal design, making it suitable for any occasion.

Every piece in our collection has undergone meticulous design and thoughtful consideration. Notably, we’ve introduced a sizable diamond set that can be worn in three different ways, showcasing our commitment to versatility and innovation.

South Sea pearls are a prominent feature in much of our jewellery, paying homage to the rich heritage of the UAE. At Amarkosh, ethical sourcing is of utmost importance to us. We exclusively collaborate with vendors who adhere to the Kimberly Process, a non-negotiable standard for us. We also use our social media platform to educate our customers about the jewellery industry and guide them in making informed purchasing decisions.”

Hiba Jaber, Founder and Designer of Almasati by Hiba Jaber

“Get ready to be captivated by our newest collection, ‘Femininity Infinity’, and several exciting additions. Crafted with the finest 18k Gold, exquisite diamonds, and vibrant enamel these pieces are designed to enchant.

At the heart of our signature style is the art of intertwining Arabic letters in unique, meaningful ways. These designs narrate individual stories and resonate deeply with the people of Abu Dhabi and the UAE.

The upcoming unveiling marks the grand debut of ‘Femininity Infinity’. We take pride in our commitment to sustainability in whichever way possible, and we have recently introduced the jewellery revamp service part of our Almasati Brand, which allows people to recycle their vintage jewellery into new jewels they can enjoy wearing.

Noura Al Sarraj, Founder and Designer of MAS Jewels

“We are thrilled to introduce several new pieces and collections at the upcoming exhibition.

One standout piece is the Etlala necklace, featuring precious turquoise stones. It’s truly a statement piece, akin to a work of art, making anyone wearing it stand out. Iraqi Artist Wissam Shawkat To Launch New Exhibit In Dubai

Renowned award-winning Iraqi artist Wissam Shawkat is set to captivate art enthusiasts once again with his latest exhibition, “Black & White” running from Saturday 11th November to 12th December at Mestaria Gallery in Dubai.

This exhibition invites attendees to dive into the essence of art and experience an innovative journey into the world of form, shape, and composition, all the while embracing the deliberate absence of colour.

Shawkat’s exhibition offers a unique perspective, emphasizing emotional expression and beauty of calligraphic letterforms, revealing their intricate complexity and interplay in the absence of colours.

The artist pushes the boundaries with his artistry, through the intention of a monochromatic palette. Highlighting the delicately orchestrated dance between positive and negative spaces, offering viewers an exploration of proportion, depth, weight, and style.

The intentional simplicity of escaping colour is far from ordinary. The juxtaposing use of black and white ink showcases the strength of black and the purity of white, creating a captivating graphic symbolism; especially against various beige background tones, creating an enchanting and elegant visual experience.

Black & White: A rhythmic monochromatic elegance that Journeys into the Essence of Calligraphy, featuring 111 artworks. The artist’s palette amplifies the prominence of contrast and balance, removing all visual noises. The artworks are crafted on handmade paper, treated to exquisitely blend soot pigment ink, creating a striking distinction of balance that focuses on fundamental elements of form, line thickness, depth, dimensions, and structure. Through “Black & White,” Shawkat invites us to understand and appreciate calligraphy’s flow and most importantly, its spirit.

As Shawkat himself puts it, “It feels to me a universal truth that master calligraphers do not first see colour, we see form; we do not study at length tonal contrasts, before first analyzing the relationship between our letterforms, their rhythm, and the space they occupy.”
