Abu Dhabi Art Announces Largest Fair Ever To Celebrate Its 15th Year

The Abu Dhabi Executive Council has announced that it will hold the biggest-ever Abu Dhabi Art Fair, in celebration of the event’s 15th anniversary.

Running from 22nd to 26th November at Manarat Al Saadiyat, the event will see 92 galleries from over 31 countries come together with an incredible programme of installations, sculpture, paintings, mixed media and digital art.

The fair is a key event in the Arab creative arts programme and is seen as a key cultural platform for West Asia.

This year’s edition spotlights diverse geographies alongside curated exhibitions and commissions, positioning itself as a place of discovery for global art histories. The fair remains committed to welcoming diverse curatorial perspectives, embedding itself in the community, and playing an integral part in the art ecosystem in Abu Dhabi and the UAE.

The 92 participating galleries represent countries from around the globe – including, for the first time, galleries from Georgia, Mexico, Brazil, Singapore, and Chile.

Dyala Nusseibeh, Director of Abu Dhabi Art, said “This year’s Abu Dhabi Art represents a significant moment in the fair’s history due to its sheer size, with double the number of galleries participating since its early days. We are delighted to be able to attract such a diverse range of artists and galleries from around the world, in part thanks to the important contribution and research of our global gallery representatives.

“The presence of so many new galleries at the Fair signifies how dynamic the local and regional art market has become over the last 15 years. By working closely with curators, gallery representatives, galleries and artists, we are also ensuring that our gallery presentations offer unparalleled access to art histories and research, ensuring visitors have the opportunity to better understand these wide-ranging global positions.”

Representing some of the participating galleries this year is Maneli Keykavioussi, who will focus on Latin America with participating galleries including Dan Galleria, Pablo Goebel Fine Arts, Praxis, Galeria Karla Osorio, Galeria La Cometa and Casa Zirio; visiting professor Riccarda Mandrini focusing on sustainability with participating galleries including Kó, LIA RUMMA, THK Gallery, and ADN Galleria; Founder and Director of Le Violon Bleu Gallery Essia Hamdi, who will focus on female artists from the Arab world with galleries including Agial Art Gallery, Galerie Krinzinger and Wadi Finan Art Gallery; and Chris Wan Feng – who will bring together galleries that reflect on Hong Kong’s historical and contemporary art landscape, including Rossi & Rossi, and HANART TZ.

Chris Wan Feng, Curator, Art Critic and gallery representative for the participating Hong Kong galleries, said: “I am honoured to be invited to curate the Hong Kong Focus sector of the Abu Dhabi Art Fair this year, where we will present for the first time in the Middle East a great selection of Modern and Contemporary art from Hong Kong, reflecting its unique and rich historical context, and the exciting contemporary art scene taking place now in the region. I am confident that the encounter and exchange with the audience of the Abu Dhabi Art Fair will further develop and strengthen our art dialogue between the two regions”.

Among the 37 new galleries that will be present at the fair this year are LIA RUMMA (Italy), De Sarthe (Hong Kong), Leo Gallery (Hong Kong), and Pablo Goebel Fine Arts (Mexico). Abu Dhabi Art will also welcome back 55 galleries that have participated in previous editions. Returning galleries include Gallery Isabelle Van Den Eynde (UAE), Sean Kelly (USA), Hakgojae Gallery (South Korea), Mazzoleni (Italy), HANART TZ Gallery (China), Galerie Krinzinger (Austria) and Perrotin (France), among many others.

The Modern & Contemporary section of the fair will see 40 participating galleries including Rossi & Rossi (Hong Kong), Selma Feriani Gallery (Tunisia), and Bernier/Eliades (Greece).

More announcements are expected, in the coming months prior to the event in late November.

Retro Parisian Style Dominates In Rabanne’s Pre-Fall 24 Collection

The latest campaign by Rebanne reimagines Parisian style from the 1970s and 1990s for its Pre-Fall 24 collection.

“These evening and everyday looks emphasize ease and individuality. Long dresses span various materials and silhouettes: gathered silk jersey, body-grazing knit, a sheer sheath with incrustations of metal mesh; and stretch velour with a gathered torso in a shade of candy pink. Beyond their dramatic allure, surface details and styling capture the season’s insouciance,” the house explained in its notes for the collection.

“There are straps like ice cubes and belts with draped chains, while rivets and metal balls bring focus to the silhouettes. A wraparound snowflake scarf is paired unexpectedly with dresses or comes as a knit layer embellished with geometric assemblage. Grunge takes a festive attitude, as slip dresses in the lustrous metal mesh are incrusted with lace and assemblage halter tops are worn with cashmere shorts. The constant juxtaposition of fancy elements and relaxed garments brings fresh focus to the maison’s DNA,” it continued.

Prada Releases New Rose Gold Pieces As Part Of Its Sustainable Fine Jewellery Collection

Eternal Gold Prada – the world’s first entirely sustainable fine jewellery collection – has just unveiled its newest pieces in the collection, made out of rose gold. Initially released in November 2022, the Eternal Gold Prada capsule has since gone from strength to strength, leading up to the newest release.

Using time-honoured artisanal techniques, precious gems and metals; the collection is 100 per cent made using recycled gold.

“Prada’s recycled gold is drawn only from eligible recycled material sources, in compliance with due diligence – including industrial gold, and post-consumer precious objects. Prada partners exclusively with those suppliers of precious metals and stones who meet the highest industry standards concerning human rights, labour safety, environmental impact, and business ethics,” the house explained.

“The reduction of mining of new gold benefits both the environment and human rights and while traceability of diamond origins is conventionally only possible with stones of 0.5 carats or larger, Prada expands the concept, for the first time, to stones of all sizes. It also extends through the entire value chain, from mining to cutting, setting and polishing – every step of every diamond’s life can be traced,” Prada continued.

These Are The Best Swimwear Trends To Follow Based On Your Body Type

Changing up your swimwear style can completely revolutionise your poolside look. Here are all the tips for finding the perfect beach and pool wear this summer.

Hourglass Body Type

If you have a balanced bust and hips with a defined waist, you’re likely an hourglass shape. The best options to go for are swimsuits that highlight your waist and provide adequate support for your bust. Think high-waisted bikini bottoms, halter tops, and one-piece swimsuits with ruching or belted details that can accentuate your curves.

Pear Body Type

For a pear-shaped body, where your hips are wider than your bust, choose swimsuits that draw attention upward and balance your proportions. Look for bikini tops with embellishments or patterns, and bottoms with moderate coverage. A plunging neckline or a strapless top can also help create a balanced look.

Apple Body Type

If you carry weight around your midsection and have a broader waist, consider swimsuits that provide tummy control and offer support. Tankinis with ruching, one-piece swimsuits with a shirred waist, and high-waisted bikini bottoms can help streamline your figure. Avoid overly tight or skimpy styles.

Rectangle Body Type

A rectangular body type features a more even bust and hip measurement with a less defined waist. To add curves and definition, opt for swimsuits with ruffles, ruching, or other embellishments. Look for bandeau tops, padded tops, and bottoms with side ties to add volume and create the illusion of curves.

Inverted Triangle Body Type

If your shoulders and bust are broader than your hips, choose swimsuits that balance your upper and lower body. Look for bottoms with bold patterns or details, and opt for a fuller coverage top. Racerback styles and swimsuits with textured bottoms can help draw attention away from your shoulders.

Everything You Need To Know About Learning To Invest in Art

Investing in art can be an exciting and potentially rewarding venture, but it also comes with its own set of challenges and risks. Here are some steps to guide you on how to invest in art.

Set a budget

Determine how much you are willing to invest in art. Remember that investing in art can be costly, and there are additional expenses like insurance, storage, and potential restoration costs.

Buy what you love

While the primary goal is to make a good investment, it’s essential to buy art that you genuinely enjoy and appreciate. Art should bring you pleasure regardless of its investment potential.

Research artists

Study the artists whose work you are considering. Look at their past and current performance in the art market, auction records, and critical acclaim. Emerging artists might have higher potential for growth but also come with more significant risks.

Visit galleries, museums, and art fairs

Attend art shows, galleries, museums, and art fairs to get a feel for the market, see various artists’ works, and connect with dealers and other collectors.

Consult with experts

If you’re new to art investing, consider seeking advice from art consultants, curators, or dealers. They can provide valuable insights and help you avoid common pitfalls.

Purchase authentic art

Ensure that you are buying authentic artworks by reputable artists. Get the provenance and authenticity documents from the seller or auction house.

Diversify your collection

Don’t put all your funds into a single piece of art. Diversify your collection to spread the risk across various artists, styles, and mediums.

Consider art funds or ETFs

If you don’t want to invest directly in individual artworks, you can explore art investment funds or exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that focus on the art market.

Store and insure your art

Properly store and insure your art to protect its value. Climate-controlled storage and comprehensive insurance are essential to safeguard your investment.

Be patient

Art investments can take time to appreciate in value. Be prepared for a long-term investment horizon and don’t rush into selling at the first sign of market fluctuations.

Monitor the market

Keep track of the art market trends and sales results. Stay informed about the artists you’ve invested in and any developments in the art world that might affect their value.

Remember that art investment carries risks

The value of art can be subjective and influenced by various factors. It’s essential to approach art investment with a long-term perspective and an understanding that it may not always yield high returns. Only invest what you can afford to lose, and enjoy the process of collecting art along the way.

How To Get Glossy Healthy Hair

Healthy, full, glossy hair is never out of fashion, however it is having a moment du jour right now. Here are all the tips you need for having fantastic hair.

Regular treatments

There are plenty of treatments available now to help your hair live its best life. Lamellar treatments are perfect for when your hair needs a little extra TLC. They’re conditioning treatments which lock in moisture and repair your hair when you wash it. They can take as little as 10-15 seconds to take hold which make them perfect for when you’re short on time. Next on the list are colour gloss treatments. These take a little more time – but in return last longer too. They combine a conditioning treatment and at-home toner in one, leaving your hair shiner, and more vibrant (what’s not to love?) As a rule of thumb, add in a deep conditioning treatment once a week to provide extra moisture and nourishment to your hair. Be sure to choose a gentle shampoo and conditioner for your regular wash too, that match your hair type and are free from harsh chemicals. Avoid sulphates and parabens as they can strip your hair of natural oils.

In oil we trust

The second thing to invest in is a decent hair oil. These come in two main varieties, the first is a pre-shampoo oil treatment. These are scalp and hair treatments which provide extra moisture, protect while combating build up. Through protecting the hair they help to add to its overall strength and shine. The second to invest in – particularly if you’re suffering from dry hair – is an oil mist or shine serum. Natural ones tend to be best (think coconut oil, argan oil, or jojoba oil). These can add synthetic shine when you’ve finished styling your hair.

It’s all about the maintenance

Regular trims help remove split ends and keep your hair looking fresh and healthy. Aim to trim your hair every 6 to 8 weeks. Another thing to be aware of is that washing your hair everyday can strip it of its natural oils, making it dry and dull. Aim to wash your hair every 2-3 days, or as needed based on your hair type. After shampooing and conditioning, rinse your hair with cold water too, to seal the cuticles, making your hair appear smoother and shinier. When brushing  be sure to use a soft-bristled brush and be gentle when detangling your hair, especially when it’s wet.

Preventative care

The best way to have healthy hair is to avoid damage at all cost. Minimise the use of heat styling tools like blow dryers, straighteners, and curling irons. And when you do use them, apply a heat protectant spray to minimise damage. Also avoid over-processing. Limit the use of harsh chemical treatments like bleaching, perming, and colouring, as they can damage your hair. Be sure to protect your hair from the sun – as it doesn’t just damage your skin! When exposed to the sun, wear a hat or use hair products that contain UV protection to shield your hair from harmful UV rays.

Feed your hair from the inside

Eating a balanced diet has a multitude of benefits – including helping to fuel your hair from the inside. A nutritious diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins will promote healthy hair growth. Be sure to include foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and lean proteins in your diet. Similarly, it’s important to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water to keep your hair and scalp hydrated. Like maintenance and health in all other parts of your body, rest is key too. Getting adequate sleep is essential for overall health, including your hair’s health.

Six Self-Development Books To Read This Summer

Clear introduces four laws that can help individuals build good habits and break bad ones. These laws are: make it obvious, make it attractive, make it easy and make it satisfying. Throughout the book, Clear uses practical examples, scientific research, and engaging stories to illustrate his points and make the concepts easy to understand and implement. Describing the different notes in the new perfume, and the process in its creation, the house said: “Taking inspiration from free spirited women, the scent is built around Magnolia Alba, an ancient and rare plant that requires a specific harvest and careful distillation process. Its fruity, floral sweetness is balanced by a clary sage-like edge, to reflect an intuitive nature. The resulting Magnolia Essence exudes cheerfulness and a luminous, noble spirit. To enhance the sweetness of the Magnolia Essence, a Dewberries Accord is added for a fruity, juicy dimension. Striking a balance between freshness and sensuality, Patchouli Essence is then used to ground the scent.

“The perfumers capture the plant’s intense woodiness from Indonesia’s best quality Patchouli, creating a subtly earthy and leathery aroma. Gucci Flora Gorgeous Magnolia also features Blond Woods which provides a gentle, sensual touch, while Coconut Accord delivers an irresistible vanilla freshness that is both smooth and addictive. Finally, the Jasmine Sambac Absolute lends a green intensity and warmth that comes together with a mellowing trail of Musks,” they continued.

The new bottle is complemented by a vibrant bottle and outer packaging, featuring the house’s iconic flora pattern, with vibrant blooms and rich hue.

Including at the 14th Dubai International Sports Conference in 2020, when he stepped out wearing the most expensive Rolex ever-made, the  GMT Master Ice, which is set with 30 carats of diamonds on its dial, bezel and bracelet and worth around half a million dollars.

“No one brings passion for luxury watches to the world stage quite like Cristiano. He has already solidified his place as one of the greatest athletes in history, and as an investor shows astute knowledge of world-class luxury and technology,” commented Chrono24 founder and co-CEO Tim Stracke.

How To Improve Yourself (Inside And Out) Through Better Sleep

Sleep might just be the best preventative health cure to many ailments the human race faces, that’s according to scientist Matthew Walker, in his acclaimed work “Why We Sleep: The New Science of Sleep and Dreams.”

In his book, Walker points to the science behind many benefits offered by sleep, from more youthful skin, a better regulated metabolism (leading to better weight management) and improved cognitive function. In the book, he explains the Domino Effect sleep has on nearly every single aspect of our health. The main takeaway from the book? If you’re going to make one change this year, improve your sleep routine!

Easier said than done perhaps. As a rule of thumb, Walker explains that we should be sleeping eight to nine hours per night, with a potential afternoon nap added in of approximately 30 minutes to one hour around 1-2pm. He also puts forward a case that “midnight” should in fact be the middle of the night when it comes to our sleep routine – getting some shut eye (depending on your individual needs) from as early as 9pm.

Here are some tips on getting a better night’s sleep:

Keep a strict schedule

Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. This helps regulate your body’s internal clock, making it easier to fall asleep and wake up naturally.

Plan your light exposure

Natural light exposure during the day helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle (our circadian rhythm). Spend time outside, especially in the morning, to improve your sleep patterns. Equally, for an hour or so before sleep, be sure you are in a dark space with low lighting, to help signal to your sleep-wake cycle that it is nearly time for sleep.

Create a routine and invest in your sleep area

Having a relaxing pre-sleep routine can help your body register sleep signals. Some things that can help include having a hot shower or meditating. Similarly, small touches like a memory foam pillow and comfortable bedding can aid getting a good night’s sleep.

Limit screen time or use night mode

This is probably one of the more obvious ones, if you decide to be on your devices close to sleep time, switch to a warm none-blue light setting that most smartphones now have. Blue light is what causes the most disruption to your body’s ability to rest after electronic device use.

Check the temperature

Our bodies need the temperature of the room to be slightly cooler than usually to get a good night’s sleep. During the hotter summer months use air conditioning or a fan to help get the temperature right.

You are what you eat (and drink)

Don’t eat heavy meals too close to bedtime, as active digestion and heartburn can disrupt sleep. Similarly any beverages which contain stimulants such as caffeine can affect sleep. Avoid for at least eight hours before you sleep if possible.

Exercise regularly

Regular physical activity can improve sleep quality. However, try to avoid intense workouts close to bedtime, as it may make it harder to fall asleep. The best time to workout to help sleep is early in the day.

Manage stress

High levels of stress and anxiety can make it difficult to sleep. Practice relaxation techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, or progressive muscle relaxation to calm your mind before bedtime.

If you continue to have persistent sleep problems, consider consulting a healthcare professional or sleep specialist to identify and address any underlying issues.

Montblanc Celebrates Robert Louis Stevenson With The House’s New Writing Instrument

The eagerly anticipated annual Montblanc Writers Edition has finally been released, and for the 2023 edition the luxury house has decided to champion the great Scottish novelist, poet and travel writer Robert Louis Stevenson.

The author –  who lived during the late 1800s – famously penned the great classical novels “Treasure Island” and “The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.”

The incredible success achieved during his career is even more so exceptional due to the fact that he battled with life long health issues, caused by a severe bronchial condition leading him to tragically pass away at the young age of 44.

Discussing the new collection in notes which accompany the release, a spokesperson for Montblanc said: “Every design detail of the four different editions that make up the collection illustrates the life and work of Robert Louis Stevenson, “Treasure Island”  in particular. The shape of the writing instrument is inspired by the spyglass used by sailors and pirates, with the lower geometry of the cone evoking the opening of the spyglass. Each edition features an original interpretation of the skull and crossbones, universally recognised symbols for pirates around the world. The compass rose that appears throughout the collection is a nod to “Treasure Island”, the location of a legendary treasure that plays a central role in Stevenson’s most famous novel. A reference to his final years on the Pacific Island of Samoa and the affection he earned from the locals, his nickname “TUSITALA” or “teller of stories” adorns each nib in the collection.”

Writing instruments in the collection include the Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson – Limited Edition 8, the Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson – Limited Edition 1883 and the Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson – Limited Edition.

The Essential Jetset Wardrobe Tips For Flying This Summer

Travelling in the summer season can be marred by crowded airports, hot temperatures on the ground and icey cold Air Con inflight. To put it mildly – it can feel like an obstacle course deciding what to wear in transit.

Have no fear – we are here to help you prioritise and plan your travel outfits for every flight this summer.

Comfort is king

It might seem obvious, but it really is worth stating upfront – 12 hours in an uncomfortable outfit? No thankyou. Opt for loose-fitting, breathable clothing made from soft fabrics like cotton or linen. Avoid tight or restrictive clothing that might become uncomfortable during a long flight.

Layers, layers, layers

As we all know, aeroplanes can have fluctuating temperatures. Be sure to pack layers. Whether it’s a light sweatshirt or a pashmina scarf (a scarf or shawl can also be excellent at making a makeshift blanket during the flight). Dressing in layers allows you to adjust your clothing accordingly. Wear a light sweater or jacket that you can easily take off or put on as needed.

Closed-toe shoes

You will thank us for this one. When you’re walking about the plane (including the varying standards of inflight washrooms) you will want your toes safely tucked away. A pair of sneakers are ideal for keeping your feet cosy during the flight. Slip-on shoes are also a good option, as they are easy to take off during security checks.

Cosy socks

Whether you wear them to fly, or pack them in your carry-on a cosy pair of socks can add an extra level of comfort while you’re travelling.

Avoid too many metal accessories

There’s nothing more annoying than having to take off tonnes of accessories while you’re going through security – only to have to put them all back on again five minutes later in a busy airport. To breeze through security checks, avoid wearing belts with metal buckles and excessive metal jewellery.

Ditch the neutrals and whites

Wearing lighter colours while travelling is asking for trouble. You can be one bit of turbulence away from spilling dark coffee on your white shirt. Instead, opt for darker shades which tend to hide marks better, along with wrinkles in clothing – which are inevitable on a longhaul flight.

Consider the destination

Dress appropriately for the climate at your destination – as well as the cultural norms of the country you are visiting. If you’re travelling from a cold to a warm climate (or vice versa), you might want to bring some extra clothing to change into upon arrival. Equally, if you’re travelling to a conservative country you may want to think about modest dress for your arrival.

Bon voyage!

Twelve Tips For Keeping Your Makeup Fresh All Summer Long

Makeup can be challenging to maintain in hot weather, as the heat and humidity can cause it to melt or smudge. Here are some makeup tips to help you stay fresh and flawless in hot weather.

Prep your base

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, apply a lightweight moisturiser, and use a primer designed to control oil and extend makeup wear.

Stick to oil-free and long-wear products

Choose a foundation that is oil-free and has a matte or semi-matte finish. Long-wear formulas will help your makeup last longer throughout the day.

Less is more

Opt for a lightweight foundation or a tinted moisturiser instead of heavy full-coverage foundation. This will feel lighter on your skin and be less likely to clog pores in the heat.

Use powder

After applying foundation or concealer, set your makeup with a light dusting of translucent powder. This will help reduce shine and lock your makeup in place.

Look out for ‘waterproof’ and ‘smudge-proof’ beauty buys

Use waterproof mascara and eyeliner to prevent smudging and raccoon eyes. Cream eyeshadows also tend to stay put better than powder ones in hot weather.

Avoid heavy cream products

In hot weather, heavy cream blushes and highlighters can feel greasy and slide off. Instead, use powder blushes and highlighters to add a touch of colour and glow to your face.

Carry blotting papers

Keep blotting papers handy to absorb excess oil throughout the day without disturbing your makeup.

Set your makeup with a setting spray

Finish your makeup with a setting spray designed to lock makeup in place and give a natural finish.

Avoid heavy lip products

Choose lightweight lip products like tinted lip balms or matte lipsticks that won’t smudge or melt easily.

Stay hydrated

Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from within, which will also help your makeup look fresher.

Reapply as needed

Be prepared to touch up your makeup during the day, especially if you’re outdoors for an extended period. Carry a small makeup bag with essentials for quick touch-ups.

Choose light and breathable clothing

Wearing light, breathable fabrics can help reduce sweating, which can also extend the wear of your makeup.
