Rolls-Royce Puts Electric Cars In The Fast Lane With Its New Spectre Model

Rolls-Royce unveiled its first electric car – the Spectre – in October 2022, and now, less than 12 months later the first models are arriving on the market. The marque describes the new design as ushering in a bold new future for electric design, calling the vehicle “the world’s first ultra-luxury electric super coupé, [which is] a Rolls-Royce first and an electric car second [with] no concessions or compromises in terms of interior space, comfort, performance or ride quality.”

The Spectre is the start of an ambitious new era for Rolls-Royce, which has committed to making its entire fleet of vehicles 100 per cent electric by 2030. “This is the start of a bold new chapter for our marque, our extraordinary clients and the luxury industry. For this reason, I believe Spectre is the most perfect product that Rolls-Royce has ever produced,” explains Torsten Müller-Ötvös, the CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

According to the marque, the all-electric powertrain takes the signature Rolls-Royce experience – instant torque, silent running and the sense of one imperceptible gear – and enhances it for a new generation of clients.

“The Spectre possesses all the qualities that have secured the Rolls-Royce legend. This incredible motor car, conceived from the very beginning as our first fully-electric model, is silent, powerful and demonstrates how perfectly Rolls-Royce is suited to electrification. Spectre’s all-electric powertrain will assure the marque’s sustained success and relevance while dramatically increasing the definition of each characteristic that makes a Rolls-Royce a Rolls-Royce,” Müller-Ötvös said.

These Are The Best Ways To Keep Your Skin Healthy And Hydrated During The Summer

Taking care of your skin during the summer is crucial to keep it healthy and protected from the harsh effects of the sun and heat. Here are five essential skin care tips for the summer.

Wear sunscreen daily

Sunscreen is your best defence against harmful UV rays that can cause sunburn, premature ageing, and skin cancer. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and apply it generously to all exposed skin areas, including your face, neck, ears, and the back of your hands. Reapply every two hours, especially if you’re sweating or swimming.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Summer heat can lead to dehydration, which can also affect your skin. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin and body well-hydrated. Proper hydration helps maintain skin elasticity and overall health, making it less prone to dryness and irritation.

Use lightweight, breathable skincare products

Swap out heavy creams and lotions for lighter, oil-free, and non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores) products during the summer. Look for gel-based moisturisers, hydrating serums, and oil-free sunscreens to prevent your skin from feeling greasy or congested.

Exfoliate gently

Regular exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, allowing your skin to absorb products better and maintain a healthy glow. However, in the summer, it’s essential to use gentle exfoliants, as excessive scrubbing can lead to skin sensitivity.

Seek shade and wear protective clothing

The sun’s rays are strongest in the middle of the day. If possible, stay in the shade during these peak hours. Additionally, wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that covers your arms and legs can add an extra layer of protection against UV rays.

Be mindful of skin sensitivity

Each person’s skin is unique, so it’s essential to pay attention to how your skin reacts to different products and environmental conditions during the summer. If you have specific skin concerns or conditions, it’s always a good idea to consult with a dermatologist for personalised advice and recommendations.

Dior Launches A Unique Minimalist Campaign For The House’s Menswear FW23 Collection

Dior has unveiled a striking campaign for its menswear FW23 capsule.

The house describes it as “a celebration of a fluctuating dual world, brought to life by a series of shots where purity and sophistication converge.”

Models showcase the looks in the collection using mirrors to reveal different elements of the collection that was designed by the longtime lead of the house, Kim Jones. The iconic designer has worked with many of the leading houses in the industry and celebrated five years at Dior at his menswear show in June.

In the notes which accompanied its release, the house of Dior commented on the new shoot: “ the silhouettes are revealed: clothes hybridised and metamorphosed according to their fit on the person wearing them. The complexity of the looks – between poetic simplicity and extreme precision – is further underlined by the virtuosity of the accessories. A multifaceted ode to the maison’s heritage and the very essence of fashion: the beautifully useful.”

Prada Mode Will Travel To Seoul This September For A Two-Day Celebration Of Art

Prada has announced that it will present the tenth iteration of Prada Mode, Plural and Parallel, at cultural venue KOTE, in the South Korean capital of Seoul this September.

Taking place on 5th and 6th September, the event will coincide with the international art fair Frieze Seoul.

Prada Mode Seoul will be curated by Lee Sook-Kyung and the space will showcase multiple site-specific installations by esteemed directors Kim Jee-Woon, Yeon Sang-ho, and Jeong Dahee, which the house explains “advances an ambitious vision of contemporary cinema through each director’s idiosyncratic lens”.

The large scale exhibition will take place across KOTE’s multiple buildings, where the work of the three directors will be explored, “spanning questions of culinary culture, absence, and mortality” through the skilled curation of Sook-Kyung.

“Films impact cultures by reflecting the values and ideas that already exist in a given culture but also by opening up new possibilities and visions. What we see in films are both reflections of realities and promises of imagined worlds, a product and prompt of collective imagination. Kim Jee-Woon, Yeon Sang-ho, and Jeong Dahee create distinctive worlds in their films that are at once products of contemporary South Korea and inspirations for different possibilities. Prada Mode Seoul will highlight their uniquely diverse visions by providing three separate yet interconnected spaces, each representing the individual director’s version of actual and imagined reality,” says Lee Sook-Kyung.

Alongside the main exhibit, Prada Mode Seoul will also feature screenings, musical performances, and dynamic conversations, as well as culinary offerings to complement the experience.

Miu Miu Unveils A Collections Which Disrupts The Status Quo For FW23

Miu Miu has revealed its FW23 collection, in an eclectic campaign called “Miu Miu Live!”, starring Emma Corrin, Mia Goth, Zaya Wade, Ethel Cain and Amelia Gray Hamlin.

The campaign focuses on duality – or as the collection notes state Miu Miu Live! “occupies a place between real time and time to come, between transient, democratic spaces in shades of grey – an airport? a TV studio? – and the notion of movement everywhere and nowhere.”

The desire to disrupt is at the core of the collection which pairs the abstract with the personal – visible waistbands on stockings and exposed petticoats.

The house explains “ Spontaneity, languor and ease is veiled physically, in clothing, and emotionally by a sense of mystery, of human beings, self-absorbed and peaceful in isolation, moving from avatar abstraction to intimacy, from foreground to background, open but never giving too much away.”

Chanel Is Heading To Manchester, UK For Its 2023/24 Métiers D’art Show

Chanel is known for travelling to exotic locations all over the world for its Métiers d’art shows. The collections are known for their creative prowess, showcasing both the savoir-faire of the ateliers who work tirelessly for the house, but also for championing the cities in which they are showcased.

This year, Chanel will be travelling perhaps one of the shortest distances ever for their Métiers d’art show – just over the channel, in fact, to the British northern city of Manchester.

Manchester was known as a textile hub during the Industrial Revolution, during the 18th and 19th centuries, no doubt something the French house will draw on for its inspiration at this year’s event.

Discussing their process for choosing a city to host their Métiers d’art collection, the house explained in a statement: “Every year since 2002, Chanel has been the only house to create a collection dedicated to celebrating the savoir-faire of the Métiers d’art and their central importance to fashion, today and tomorrow. Presented in cities and places that inspire the house, from Tokyo to New York, via Dakar last year, this collection bears witness to the historic commitment of Chanel to this exceptional artisanal heritage and its influence around the world.”

The Manchester show is due to take place on Thursday 7th December 2023.

LOEWE’s FW23 Menswear Campaign Is Inspired By Julien Nguyen And Renaissance Art

The fabulous new LOEWE men’s campaign, shot by David Sims, “explores the possibilities of the gaze and the body gesture to express feelings and sensations,” according to the house.

Starring in the new campaign are singer and songwriter Omar Apollo and Golden-Globe nominated actor Jamie Dornan.

Discussing the photoshoot by Sims, a spokesperson for the label said “ The images happen in blurred ambiances: one can feel the volume of the room, but the spatial features are erased by rubberised sheets that act as screens. The velvet, leathers, and felts of the clothes and accessories come to the fore, bluntly, in pictures that ooze an almost tactile quality.”

While working on the photoshoot the team had the artist Julien Nguyen in mind, as it was his work which inspired the most recent collection. In turn, Renaissance art too, as Nguyen is strongly influenced by the old masters. “The still life images are surreal in their blunt directness, depicting bags and shoes—including the Puzzle Fold tote, as well as the Terra Chelsea boots and derbies—in their sculptural and textural presence,” explains the house.

There are more layers at play in this creative shoot too – the campaign’s composition draws a connection with the women’s campaign, both turning the idea of reduction into uncanny image-making.

French Maison LÉTRANGE Discusses The Rise Of The Quiet Luxury Phenomenon

Sébastien Létrange, the chairman of LÉTRANGE Paris, sat down with A&E magazine to discuss the rise of Quiet Luxury.

Why do you think Quiet Luxury is becoming so popular?

The overall market and consumers as a whole are becoming more mature. The luxury consumer base has been growing steadily in the past few decades and there is a natural momentum taking place that makes the ‘top tier’ bigger too. Consumers are more aware and conscious of buying decisions. People are more educated about the choices available to them, and as a result expect more from a product. It’s also true in the restaurant industry for example. The more you taste something, the more you expect in your next experience.

In the luxury industry it means that some of the bigger ‘logo brands’ are becoming so massive that, for some people, lots of their products are no longer a sign of distinction, nor a sign of quality despite very high prices because marketing has become such a heavy part of the pricing.Between buying a qualitative product or the image of a product some clients have now started to make a distinctive choice – choosing quality over image.

In your opinion, what separates “Quiet Luxury” from “Loud Luxury”?

Sorry for my very French answer: it’s simply Philosophy. In the 1860’s, Armand Létrange, the 2nd generation of our family [working in the luxury industry] elevated the thinking behind his work – which was quite unusual for an artisan back then. He tried to define a philosophy which he wrote on the wall of his workshop stating “Atteindre l’excellence et la défier chaque jour” which translates to “Strive and reach for excellence each and every day”. This statement still guides us today. The motivation in our making, impacts the motivation when buying because our clients feel and understand the products. So to answer your question, Quiet Luxury is all about focusing on the ‘excellency’ of a product, rather than worrying about what is required to make it recognisable to the masses.

In terms of customers, what do you think defines the two categories?

The Loud Luxury customer traditionally looks for a product that will provide an immediate statement. He wants to be ‘seen’ as a member of the club he belongs to or wants to belong to.

The Quiet Luxury customer is looking for excellence but still strives for distinctive products. They want to be surprised. To be different. They do not want to be ‘seen’, but simply to be. We have several clients who have told us “I do have money but I do not need it to be seen”.

How do material integrity, tailoring skills and sourcing play into the quiet luxury trend?

All these factors are key. The best leathers, the best craftsmanship, the most refined production processes are what makes craftsmanship unique. It is really a big point of satisfaction when the clients clearly see the difference and the effort we place into each handbag. In Quiet Luxury, consistent quality is the constant challenge. Just a week ago, a lovely lady in Doha sent me a letter after buying her first LÉTRANGE bag, she said: “ The pleasure is all mine to have such a beautiful and niche piece of art. The craftsmanship is like no other, it can’t be compared. These handmade pieces have their own magic”  Reading her words, you feel the emotions that motivate us and what all this is about – serving your customer the absolute best, without compromising on anything else.

Do you think the quiet luxury trend has longevity?

Without any doubt, yes. Even if it will obviously never become bigger [than other trends]. Quiet Luxury will stay niche and for the distinctive happy few. Historically, luxury has never been about mass production. It is about limited production – and I believe it will stay this way, catering to the consumer who truly places importance on products that last a lifetime. Soon, I believe more people will start to turn towards Quiet Luxury.

What cultural and economic factors do you think have impacted the growth of Quiet Luxury?

I don’t think this has already fully taken place yet,  it’s a gradual change, happening more and more now. And it is leading to an extraordinarily interesting moment in fashion history.

On one side, we have the Loud Luxury market, where marketing is everything. And it truly does represent an enormous part of the success of many of the bigger brands, and it comprises a massive part of the price of their products. You see luxury brands and logos everywhere – it almost loses some of its novelty. When I was a child, advertisements on the streets were for coffee or tea, maybe high end perfumes. Now it is about luxury brands being everywhere, all at once… where the biggest brand takes it all. Quiet Luxury houses cannot follow the same plan, it wouldn’t make sense. The money is first put into the product, not into the advertising or the ‘buzz’ effect.

How does LÉTRANGE play into Quiet Luxury, yet still manage to keep its own identity and recognisable image?

LÉTRANGE is not a logo brand. We discreetly play with a few distinctive core elements: the three punches (on every product), the name tag, our clou sellier (saddle nail).

They all come from our history. The three punches were actually on some of our bags 150 years ago, in some graphic designs, and also even on the Louvre Palace where it all began.

You will never see loud initials or a big logo. It is the balance of our provenance, our savoir faire, and our ability to think out of the box, to offer innovation where no one will expect it. Our best seller is the “Empreinte: a wearable piece of art”. A handle no one has ever dared to think of unless in a proper artisan nightmare! Our workshops curse us everyday because that bag is really hard to make. One of our other best selling products, the “Attachant 10:30”, seems simple and classic at first sight. But the magic lies in the technique behind its construction, which is completely new and totally unexpected in a handbag.

Why is Quiet Luxury important to LÉTRANGE?

Because it is truly what we do and who we are. It has been within the core DNA of our brand since its inception in 1838. Rooted back in the Louvre Palace, Auguste Létrange (our founder) was not there to just make shiny products. He was an artisan doing hard work to provide high quality products to his customers. Then he added innovative twists to it. From there, each generation added its own touch. Seven generations later we keep our motto, “Heritage with a twist”, by combining quality, provenance, excellence, design, innovation and elegance into a very bold, creative, yet timeless, collection.

It is the opportunity for us to offer genuine consistency to our clients. From the product to the client, we have an honest and transparent relationship. At LÉTRANGE we want to be a brand you form a relationship with, and we want to offer distinctive experiences. In our boutique in Doha, you can personalize and customize your bag like never seen before in our industry. For example, with the ‘Égo Mini’ we offer the very first bag that is made in Paris, then assembled and personalized in Doha. It’s simply unique. We interact with our clients on a deeper, more personal level.

In Paris, at the end of the year, we will be opening a new concept called the LÉTRANGE Apartment. A different place to come and meet us to discover our history, collections and unique experiences. A place open only upon appointment so to have time to welcome the clients And because when you are queuing outside a luxury store…is it really that luxurious an experience?

As you see, Quiet Luxury also requires a lot of consistency, and not 180° turn around every new creative director. It is a completely different approach that we have wholeheartedly adopted since our inception, and we believe it is here to stay.
