FENDI has collaborated with the French Academy in Rome to refurbish six historic Salons at The Villa Medici, an iconic 16th-century French landmark in the heart of Rome.
Surrounded by seventeen -acres of green land and parks on Mount Pincio, this public institution is designed to welcome high-level artists, creators and art historians in residence to set up a cultural and artistic programme that includes all fields of the arts and creation and is aimed at a broad audience; to conserve, restore, study, and make its architectural and landscape heritage, as well as its art collections, known to the public.

In association with The French Academy in Rome with the support of the Mobilier National, FENDI has refurbished six reception Salons at Villa Medici, including the majestic Grand Salon, offering a new décor that will encourage creativity and contemporary design.

Under the design vision of Kim Jones FENDI’s Artistic Director of Couture and Womenswear, and Silvia Venturini Fendi, Artistic Director of Accessories and Menswear, with the support of the FENDI Architecture department, this creative development brings together traditional heritage and contemporary style to create an impressive result.

The new interpretation of the Salons combines a range of skills relating to their design, interior fittings and conservation-restoration. Colour was central element for the project and the original tones of the wall painting have been a starting point in choosing the palette for each room, reflected in particular in three custom-designed hand-knotted carpets with graduated shading and entirely crafted from recycled French wool.

The project was also inspired by the desire to create a dialogue between the existing heritage and contemporary designs created with the signature of FENDI artistic directors, FENDI Casa, and with special collaborations with designers.

A selection of pieces by Italian designer Chiara Andreatti and by the French designers Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and Toan Nguyen gives to the salons a new image. Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance drew his inspiration from Rome’s distinctive shapes and materials: the outline of the umbrella pines appears in his Borghese table, which he adapted for the Salon des Pensionnaires, while the paving of the Via Appia Antica inspired the tables he created especially for the Salon de Lecture and the Salon Bleu. The Virgola chairs by Chiara Andreatti are present in the Salon Bleu and Salon de Lecture, while her Welcome sofa and armchairs for FENDI Casa decorate the Salon des Pensionnaires.

Following the shade of the wall painting, the Sandia sofa designed by Toan Nguyen and produced by FENDI Casa is coloured in a warm orange-rusty tone and is the protagonist of the Petit Salon. The Belleville Armchairs, designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and produced by Vitra, are given pride of place in the Grand Salon at Villa Medici. This ensemble of new furniture will dialogue with pieces of heritage furniture.
The bond between heritage and contemporary art continues on the walls: thanks to an exceptional partnership with the Mobilier National, several modern and contemporary tapestries, mostly by women artists, are being introduced to Villa Medici.

This introduction of contemporary design to the historic Salons of Villa Medi was coupled with major restoration work. The decorations in the Grand Salon at Villa Medici were restored under the supervision of Pierre-Antoine Gatier, chief architect of historic monuments, and the tapestries of the Quattro stagioni cycle were restored by the Bobin Tradition workshop over a two-year period.

Van Cleef & Arpels’ iconic Alhambra collection now includes five new jewellery creations in guilloché white gold.
A rose gold wristwatch with beaded bracelet compliments these pieces, celebrating luck with a timeless aesthetic design. The new collection comprises a long necklace, bracelet, pendant, ring and earrings adorned with a sunburst finish.

True to the original style of the Alhambra collection, each motif features a beaded contour and a central bead in white gold.

Piaget has revealed four exceptional Altiplano Moonphase pieces combining the best in savoir-faire with the beauty of jewellery craftsmanship.
These four one-of-a-kind watches make up the exclusive métiers d’art collection which takes the Maison’s creativity to new heights.
For over a century, Piaget’s savoir-faire has revolved around the Maison’s ability to put technicality at the service of beauty, using the first to provide the second with as much creative space as possible. These new designs once again highlight this impeccable craftsmanship.

This is the first time the moonphase complication has entered the Altiplano collection and these four exclusive pieces further the Maison’s decades-long relationship with masterful artists.
The four watches feature a unique design which took two years to perfect. Combining beauty and precision, a luxury of intricate details and technicality is made to fit on a 36mm-wide watch.

The dials were brought to life by master enameller Anita Porchet. A translucent blue enamel sky features Chinese constellations are represented by small white dots and precious stones. A beautiful touch means each Guardian, representing a cardinal point and associated with one of the four seasons and elements, gently appears at nightfall.
The Azure Dragon stands for the East and is associated with Spring and wood; the red bird, representing the South, is close to Summer and fire. The white tiger, looking West, is naturally a friend of Autumn and metal, while the black turtle (for the North) is at ease in Winter and water.

Underneath this star-lit night sky, moon rays of graduated diamonds, sapphires and garnets are set on the lower half of the gold palace-decor dial. This required hours of work to create multiple unique details including deep, blue-lacquered moon-shaped oscillating weight, a moon window framed with a gold ring set and graduated diamonds in a crescent moon shape. Enamel and gold thread embroidery required the highest level of expertise to fit the delicate mechanism of the Altiplano.

In each of these creations, Piaget’s mastery is at the service of the profound significance of the constellations’ powers and the Moon’s infinite radiance.
The festive season is upon us and if you haven’t already finished your Christmas shopping for that special lady in your life we offer some stylish shopping inspiration.

An international ballet will pay tribute to the life of Gabrielle Chanel in Dubai this January.
Starring internationally renowned ballerina Svetlana Zakharova a two-part performance will open with a ballet Come Un Respiro (Like a Breath) by Italian choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti, and will conclude with a special performance celebrating Mademoiselle Coco Chanel and featuring more than 80 costumes designed by Virginie Viard.

Svetlana Zakharova is known for thrilling audiences and critics all over the world with her formidable technique and her sparkling dramatic interpretation of classical and contemporary roles.
Zakharova will be joined onstage by a star-studded cast of dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet including Mikhail Lobukhin, Vaycheslav Lopatin, Denis Savin, Artemy Belyakov, Anastasia Stashkevich and Ana Turazashvili.
Ballet Gabrielle Chanel is the collaboration between choreographer Yury Possokhov, composer Ilya Demutsky and Alexei Frandetti; who created the libretto and acted as director.

The performance narrates Chanel’s journey from an obscure provincial singer to head of one of the most influential Fashion Houses; a journey that forever overturned the world of the 20th century fashion.
Chanel was inspired by the movement dance, as a metaphor for freedom, as a language and as an expression of beauty. She had fruitful collaborations with the greatest artists and choreographers of her time. She supported Ballets Russes founder Sergei Diaghilev – who revolutionised the art of dance – to re-stage The Rite of Spring in 1920. She also designed costumes for both Le Train Bleu in 1924 and Apollon Musagete in 1929 in Paris.

Tickets starting from AED349 are on sale now at www.dubaiopera.com, +971 508702674.
Ameer Said, Founder of ZOYA Health & Wellbeing Resort discusses the UAE’s first fully-integrated health resort.
ZOYA Health & Wellbeing Resort is the UAE’s first fully-integrated health resort, offering a unique and holistic approach to mind and body rejuvenation. Located in the picturesque Al Zorah, Ajman, the luxury resort invites guests to escape on a positive journey, prioritising their health needs with a prevention-over-cure approach. of ZOYA Health & Wellbeing Resort was founded by Mr. Ameer Said who after losing family members to cancer and living through the global pandemic, realised there was an urgent need for a health-focused resort in the UAE. He set out to create this full-integrated destination, living up to global standards and offering the ultimate luxury to guests. We find out more.
What is your mission with ZOYA Health & Wellbeing Resort?
ZOYA was born out of a determination to address the ailments of the modern world. As the region’s first fully integrated wellness experience, our main mission is to promote a mentality of prevention over cure through providing integrative and holistic methods to create customised wellbeing retreat journeys. ZOYA’s professional medical and wellbeing experts carry out a full assessment of each guest to create a personalised journey designed to best suit their needs and lifestyle, all within a special space that protects, nourishes, and invigorates the mind, body, and soul.

Why did you feel that the region, in particular the UAE, needed a wellness resort?
Overall patterns and behaviours drastically changed worldwide as a result of the two-year-long pandemic, resulting in a shift in people’s priorities. Regardless of age or health conditions, health and wellness transformed from a luxury to a necessity, focusing on maintaining physical and mental well-being.
The UAE in specific is very fast-paced and often drives people to adopt quite unhealthy lifestyles, resulting in high levels of stress, obesity, diabetes, fatigue, burnout, and general anxiety in all ages. We feel the need to address these issues head-on with a unique and holistic approach to mind and body rejuvenation, offering only the best retreat programs curated by experts and professionals in the field with a proven track record. We have already seen a huge demand from the GCC and the wider Middle East to experience our offering since opening in June. We do see an increase in commitment to regularly invest in improving their physical and mental health and wellbeing.

How does ZOYA differ from other wellness resorts in the region?
We are the region’s first fully integrated wellness experience, offering a unique and holistic approach to mind and body rejuvenation. Our methods are integrative and holistic, and we have worked with the best in the industry to curate a range of customised wellbeing retreat journeys. At ZOYA Health & Wellbeing Resort, we combine unique cutting-edge medical science, physiotherapy, first-rate nutrition, and the latest advances in aesthetics to nourish the body and invigorate the mind. Detoxing and therapeutic fasting are central to what we offer, along with physiotherapy, aesthetic medicine, and the right nutrition to boost vitality and vigour, aiding guests to commence their lifelong journey towards rest, relaxation, and better health.
How have your personal experiences influenced your decision to conceptualize the resort and see the project to fruition?
After losing my wife and sister to cancer and witnessing my mother’s suffering and inability to perform daily tasks in her final years, it has become my mission to communicate the importance of prevention over cure, without the need for medication and assistance, and to create a special space that protects, nourishes and invigorates mind, body and soul.

What can guests expect from their stay?
ZOYA is nestled within this prime location at Al Zorah, occupying some 5.4 million square meters of lush coastal land, the lagoons and mangrove forests of Al Zorah are home to an astonishing variety of native marine and plant life, and also shelter flocks of resident and migratory birds.
This allows an essential part of our recreational activities to take place just at our doorstep such as cycling and jogging paths, nature trails, mangroves kayaking, as well as our private beach access to one of the best beaches in the UAE. The elements come together beautifully and harmoniously to bring our vision for ZOYA to life, solidifying our positioning as the ultimate wellness retreat destination.
Tell us about some of the retreats and programs that you offer.
ZOYA presents integrative and holistic methods, with a range of treatments coming together to create customized wellbeing retreat journeys. While enjoying a luxury stay, guests can choose any one of the health optimisation programs to reap the proven benefits such as improved digestion, healthier skin, boosted metabolism, strong immunity, high morale, and more. Each guest’s retreat programme is customised based on a consultation with in-house experts. With nine different retreat programs available, including Wellcation, Detox, Weight Management, Rejuvenation, Get Fit, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Liver Support, Immune Support and Anti-Ageing, there is a retreat program suitable for everyone.
As a first step on the healing journey, doctors and a holistic medical team will assess the vital signs followed by a wellness ambassador who will design a plan that is tailored to the individual. The medical fitness centre at ZOYA features the latest German high-end equipment, and expert staff with experience in the examination and treatment of a wide range of physical dysfunctions and disabilities will help guests meet their fitness goals and improve their mobility and recovery process.
ZOYA offers a healing journey that focuses on healthy weight loss in a serene atmosphere, using the latest scientific advances. Featuring therapeutic fasting for weight loss and the building of powerful new habits supported by mindfulness lectures & workshops, this revolutionary program is built on three key pillars: toxin removal, natural and IV therapies, and a tranquil healing environment supported by mental guidance.
Our 1,500 square-meter holistic wellness spa offers holistic and therapeutic services and spa treatments, including hydrotherapy, Turkish Hammam and scrub room, infrared sauna, Finnish sauna, Ozone sauna, Kneipp, invigorating baths, steam bath, cold warm indoor pools and experience showers.
At ZOYA, only the freshest, seasonal ingredients are used at the plant-based restaurant and juice bar, where a strict “conscious food policy” turns superb ingredients into therapeutic culinary experiences. The resort’s master nutritionists and chef combine the healthiest ingredients into fine-dining menus tailored to guests’ needs and wellness journeys. Specialities include enzyme-rich cold-pressed juices, nutritious organic salads, and low-calorie desserts all free of carbs and sugar.

For guests who are not able to stay for extended periods of time, what programs does the resort offer to accommodate their needs?
To get a glimpse of the vast offering at ZOYA, we recommend guests to try out our Wellcation and Day Discovery retreat programs. The ZOYA Discovery Package is ideal for guests that are on a tight schedule. The package includes a one-night stay in a premium room, offering integrative medicine consultation, measurement of vital signs, oxygen therapy, a 60-minute massage treatment, as well as access to the spa facilities and yoga and spiritual healing sessions.
For a slightly extended stay, the Wellcation retreat is a two-night program designed to give the body a healthy break by combining relaxation and unwinding with mindful breathing and living the moment. As a result, the skin will become radiant, digestion will be improved, and stress levels will drop, leaving the body alkalized and cleansed.

From your perspective, why do you deem it crucial to prioritise health and wellbeing as a whole?
Maintaining a healthy mind, body, and soul is fundamental to our overall wellbeing. Research has shown that a greater sense of wellbeing directly relates to increased physical and mental benefits, such as lower incidences of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and sleeping ailments, as well as increased productivity and creativity in both our professional and personal lives. The journey toward peace, balance, and rejuvenation comes with a holistic focus on all elements of our being. Unfortunately, we tend to be more aware of our physical health and wellbeing, as the effects are external, and many of us tend to forget that without a healthy mind and soul, we are not able to transcend into an elevated state of wellness.
At ZOYA, we combine unique cutting-edge medical science, physiotherapy, conscious nutrition, and the latest advances in aesthetics to nourish the body and invigorate the mind. Our methods are non-toxic, non-invasive, drug-free, integrative, and holistic, offering various treatments to create bespoke wellbeing retreat journeys.
Dior has revealed the seventh edition of its Dior Lady Art project, collaborating with international artists that capture the essence of the Dior icon in their own way. For this edition, the Parisian house has collaborated with artists from as far afield as China and The United States.
In the Middle East, the brand has partnered with Qatari multi-disciplinary artist Bouthayna Al Muftah. Al Muftah who uses various types of media including painting, printmaking, conceptual installation and performative works, celebrates her culture and heritage through her creations.

Her practice stages the cultural heritage of her country through the archiving of elements from past traditions in order to preserve their memory. By reinterpreting her land’s people into abstract concepts Al Muftah resurrected moments from the past into a contemporary context.

For her reinvention of Lady Dior, Bouthayna Al Muftah called upon the art of typography and the creation of conceptual artist books to represent a poetic landscape related to her home country and Arab authors onto delicate shapes of silk chiffon.

These hand-embroidered pieces of fabric evoke the pages of history and memory etched onto a manuscript. Though not linguistically based, Bouthayna Al Muftah’s design brings together narratives symbolizing nostalgia and identity linked together by suspended threads underlining the intimate and universal character of art and fashion.
If you’re staying in Dubai for the festive season or heading on an island escape, we’ve got your holiday wardrobe sorted with our selection of looks for men and women.

One of the United States’ leading private jet providers Flexjet Inc. has landed in the Middle East. After launching in Europe in 2019, the shared jet ownership company has further expanded to the region to coincide with the launch of its newest Gulfstream G650. Team A&E was one of the first to try out this exclusive experience.
Flexjet Inc. is based on a shared ownership concept which allows clients to subscribe to a private travel programme that offers them the flexibility and luxury of owning their own private jet, without the commitment to upkeep and staffing. Established in the United States in 1995 Flexjet Inc. focuses on fractional (or shared) jet ownership and leasing, jet cards, on-demand charter programmes, and full aircraft ownership, each storefront has a unique business model and go-to-market strategy.

Flexjet G650 over mountains
After a successful expansion into Europe and the launch of its Gulfstream G650 programme, the arrival of the jet in the Middle East allows Flexjet to offer discerning travellers the possibility of long-range private travel through the ownership programme. The Gulfstream G650 is the largest of the company’s fleet, carrying up to 15 passengers, as well as covering the most miles of any private aircraft with a range of almost 11,500km, and the capability to fly non-stop for up to 14 hours. This will allow customers in the Middle East to fly as far afield as London, Singapore or even New York.

Flexjet G650 Europe Capri LXi interior divan zone
“The Middle East is home to a melting pot of many different nationalities, diverse cultures and residents hungry for travel. The United Arab Emirates in particular has become a magnet for increasing numbers of ultra-high-net-worth individuals, businesses and families who want to travel on their own terms,” says Marine Eugène, European Managing Director.
“We understand the needs and desires of the UHNW traveller in this region and believe our combination of a modern, high-performance fleet and an exceptional service experience is very well-placed to appeal. We already fly regularly between the Middle East and Europe or the U.S. and we are now delighted to invite private aviation users based here to fly with us. This is an important growth market for Flexjet and in the past year, we have almost doubled our fleet to service the EMEA region, with more aircraft to be added next year. This will be complemented by additional infrastructure over the coming years,” adds Eugène.

Flexjet G650 Europe Capri LXi interior cabin view
So what’s it really like to fly private? Team A&E boarded a short flight from Dubai to Muscat in order to experience the five-star service. After being welcomed in Dubai we were invited to relax in a private waiting area as our documents were checked. Within less than 30 minutes we were through security and ready to board the flight. The décor of each Flexjet aircraft is unique. We were travelling onboard the jet with the Capri interiors, featuring grey and neutral tones with metallic details.
There is plenty of comfortable seating throughout and the back part of the plane features a laid-back area private entertainment area, perfect for cosy moments. One of the noticeable elements of the aircraft is the large oval-shaped windows (an identifiable trait of the Gulfstream), as well as silk-accent wool carpets, textured metal accents and fine, hand-stitched leather details. Ultra-fast Ka-band Wi-Fi connectivity allows multiple device connections, video conferencing or HD entertainment streaming. The staff onboard are there to meet your every need for regular passengers they will go out of their way to ensure your food and beverage preferences are arranged before the flight.

Flexjet Lounge Dubai
The Gulfstream G650 has one of the quietest cabins in private aviation, while 100 per cent of the cabin air is refreshed every two minutes. The exceptionally low cabin pressure (holding steady at a comfortable 3,290 feet, even at a cruising altitude of 51,000 feet) means you’ll feel less fatigued when you arrive at your destination. Although our flight was short it was an incredibly smooth journey from start to finish. On arrival, we were met from the plane by a fleet of Bentley cars, making the journey even simpler. We landed back in Dubai feeling relaxed and well-travelled!

From left: César Habib, Regional Director RRMC Middle East and Africa, Beit el Baraka Harmony House, Beekeepers Foundation, Surgeons For Little Lives, Sacha Jafti
Each car includes a unique Gallery artwork, hand-painted by Jafri, inspired by one of the five traditional elements – Earth, Water, Fire, Wind and Air – plus a sixth: Humanity.
This exclusive series of cars has raised in excess of $1 million for charity; the unique fund-raising NFT in each car makes this ‘The Rolls-Royce that Keeps on Giving’. This unique collaboration brings together the worlds of art and craftsmanship and elevates the legacy of the Phantom Series II.

Air
“Through my work I aim to combine the power of art with a stripped-back essence of expression, love, empathy, and intention, to inspire a more conscious and intention-filled Humanity, striving for a reconnected world; reunited by the common goal of a more hopeful & sustainable future for our planet,” said Sacha Jafri.

Earth
The six creations were unveiled with a celebratory gala event in Dubai, attended by clients and dignitaries, the Artist, Sacha Jafri, as well as Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and César Habib, the company’s Regional Director Middle East & Africa.

Fire
César Habib, Regional Director, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Middle East & Africa added: “Words cannot express how thrilled we are at the tremendous success of ‘The Six Elements’: The Rolls-Royce That Keeps on Giving. We at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars build exceptional motor cars for the few. However, we are also mindful of the many. This is why, together with our partners – Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dubai and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Abu Dhabi, we embarked on this unique journey in collaboration with the world-renowned artist Sacha Jafri to build six magnificent one-of-one Phantoms.

Wind
I’m enormously proud of what we have achieved, and I am very pleased to announce that we, at the start of our journey, have already raised over $1 million for charity. Inspiring greatness sits at the heart of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and is what constantly drives us. Phantom ‘The Six Elements’ is the very embodiment of this mission.”
Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said: “This unique series is the result of a deep, meaningful and genuine collaboration between our great marque and the artist, Sacha Jafri. Phantom is our pinnacle product and designed to be a blank canvas, which can be transformed into a true work of art – this project is an extraordinary example of that. We are delighted to see these motoring masterpieces come to life after a remarkable journey of collaboration, creativity and craftsmanship, and we are thrilled with the success of the entire project and the money raised for charity. I congratulate the team involved both in Goodwood and the Middle East for achieving this inspiring feat.”

Wind
The idea behind creating these six masterpieces is for them to become a means to donate funds to charities operating in the fields of health, sustainability, and education, and during the event, the donation of $1.23 million was divided among four charities: Surgeons for Little Lives – South Africa, Harmony House – India, The Beekeepers Foundation – UAE and Beit el Baraka – Lebanon.
Additionally, beyond the initial charitable donation, the six unique Phantoms can keep on giving thanks to a unique NFT initiative, providing even more value for the cause.

Humanity
The six one-off NFTs are linked to each of the Phantoms, but owners may sell their NFT independently if they choose to do so. With every trade of the NFT, a royalty will be paid into a digital wallet dedicated to charity. In addition, a QR code will be uniquely embedded within the glove compartment of each Phantom Series II, enabling each of the six owners to view the NFT.

Bois Dormant has been created as the daytime pairing to the Black Tie evening fragrance.
Creed Wind Flowers

The House of Creed recently introduced a new fresh and floral fragrance for women. Wind Flowers was brought to life by Master Perfumer Olivier Creed over a five-year journey. He was inspired by the grace and strength of a dancer’s flowing movement through the wind in the air. He created a sparkling floral fragrance with magical undertones of woody nougat. It opens with sweet jasmine, wrapped around the zesty scent of Tunisian orange blossom and a fruity peach note. A flurry of warm sandalwood is twisted around the floral heart of a delicate jasmine flower, tuberose petals and a sweet rose extract which adds depth and texture to this fragrance. A haze of iris and musk deepen the base, as a fragrant note of orange blossom and creamy praline offsets the dusky floral scent.

Housed in a chic black bottle the scent is a symbol of passion, vitality, and the promise of everlasting fire.
Gris Dior

Gris Dior is a signature fragrance that is now more than ever closely tied to the history of Dior Couture. The fragrance is the olfactory expression of the Dior grey, the iconic colour Christian Dior loved to celebrate: the couture grey, the sentimental grey of the couturier’s family home in Granville, Normandy, and the pearl grey of the shopfront on Avenue Montaigne. It’s a fragrance that unfurls with citrus top notes enveloped in a floral accord and set against a backdrop of ambery moss. An intense scent that makes a strong, recognizable statement, always with elegance, and leaves a compelling trail.

For the Carolina Herrera Pre Fall 2023 collection Creative Director, Wes Gordan was inspired by the concept of Divas.
A concept the brand defines as “a singular personality who makes every moment her own. With her commanding presence, innate confidence and extraordinary style, the Herrera woman is always in the spotlight, metaphorically or on her very own stage.”

Each piece in the collection is designed with the image of a diva in mind, meaning each piece is spectacular and unforgettable. Sumptuous textures, rich prints and a striking colour palette make this a standout collection.

Dramatic trains, head-turning silhouettes and crystal embroidery embrace individuality and joy in a Diva’s approach to dressing. The quintessential Herrera white shirt has evolved this collection into a faille top with a floor-sweeping train.

A key rose print can be seen throughout evoking Maria Callas as she takes her bow at the end of Puccini’s Tosca, showered with applause and tossed roses on stage. The Heart shape takes on a whimsical guise, from delicately structured heart bodices to bustiers with valentine cups. And finally, an ethereal white tulle gown is a dreamy confection, adorned with glistening heart-shaped sequins.

Accessories are also bold and befitting of the Diva, featuring signatures of the house including pearls, flowers, crystals and chains, embodying the ultimate Grand Diva of the house – Carolina Herrera herself.

Ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar Louis Vuitton has designed an elegant leather case that will house the World Cup Trophy.
Specially made by highly skilled artisans in the House’s workshop the FIFA World Cup Trophy Travel Case has been carefully designed to transport the FIFA World Cup on its journey to the Middle East from France. The trophy is made from 6.175 kilograms of 18-carat gold and malachite and is presented to the winning team each year.

The Louis Vuitton case is covered in lightweight yet hardwearing laser-engraved Monogram titanium, a material previously used in Louis Vuitton’s menswear collections. Its corners are protected with cowhide leather and the lock and six clasps are made from ruthenium, a strong dark-grey metal.

The travel case was custom-made by Louis Vuitton’s expert craftsmen and women and showcases the House’s ability to create highly complicated and impressive travel objects. The Asnières workshop continues to produce around 450 special pieces per year.

To coincide with the unveiling of the trunk Louis Vuitton has introduced an exclusive capsule collection of leather goods for men. This offering combines the elegance of Louis Vuitton with a sporty style to capture the mood of the upcoming competition.
Tod’s has revealed two reinterpretations of iconic products in collaboration with Palm Angels for Moncler Genius.
The “Tod’s x 8 Moncler Palm Angels” project is part of Tod’s-FACTORY, a creative laboratory where established and emerging designers are invited to offer a new point of view on the Tod’s DNA. As part of Moncler Genius, Tod’s teams up with Palm Angels, collaborating with Francesco Ragazzi, the brand’s creative director.
The collaboration is inspired by the world of American sports and the iconic Gommino. Mixing Pop elements with Italian taste and craftsmanship, Ragazzi reinvents this iconic accessory.

“Tod’s iconic design was my starting point when I began this project. I have great admiration for what the brand stands for: the values it expresses are linked to our culture of beauty, which is what distinguishes us internationally and that is recognised by everyone. We talk a lot about Made in Italy but, in my opinion, it is never enough. Perhaps we are too used to being surrounded by beauty and sometimes we take it for granted. In reality it is not at all obvious. Behind a brand like Tod’s there is the dedication, the research, the craftsmanship of a team of skilled people not only technically, but also humanly, that transfer in what they do all their passion”, says Francesco Ragazzi.

“Having had the opportunity to work on this project has been a great honor for me. The Gommino is part of my experience, and I approached the design of this collection with respect, adding elements of contrast while retaining the essence.”
In the same spirit, elements of mountain sportswear are reworked for the sophisticated W.G., a new version of the iconic Winter Gommino, which now has the details of a snow boot and the volume of a mountaineering boot. This iconography is combined with craftsmanship, the preciousness of the materials and the technological innovation of an Italian-quality boot.

The collection is featured through a campaign with a strong and hedonistic spirit of 90s Miami, shot by Philadelphia-born photography star Quil Lemons, and featuring the 90s supermodel and forever icon Naomi Campbell.
PhD student Hessa Ebrahim Ali Alfalahi was recognised by the programme for her research on the detection and diagnosis of depression and Parkinson’s disease using data collected through novel Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms.
Knowing that early detection is the key to saving lives, Alfalahi has made it her mission to help develop new technology that will catch neuropsychiatric disorders before it’s too late. We find out more.
Can you give us a brief overview of your research and project?
My research looks at leveraging AI algorithms for the early detection of depression using smartphone data. By looking at finger kinematics during typing captured as a series of timestamps of key presses and key releases, I aim to be able to detect early psychomotor impairment which, in turn, can lead to the passive and early diagnosis of depression.
Why is this an area you are particularly interested in?
Despite decades of research, neuropsychiatric disorders, such as depression and Parkinson’s disease, are usually detected years after neurodegeneration (loss of function of neurons) and neural perturbation. Early diagnosis of these disorders is crucial for proper symptom management and sustained quality of life. In parallel, the tremendous advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in recent years is currently resulting in promising accuracy in diagnosis when performed correctly.
What more would you like to see being done in the region surrounding this?
There is a pressing need to represent Arab populations in AI algorithms for the early detection of neuropsychiatric disorders. One of the major obstacles is the unavailability of data and the difficulty in recruiting healthy and diseased participants in clinical trials and validation studies. What we need in the future is better collaboration between medical experts and data scientists. Further, we need to disseminate awareness to the public regarding the beneficial aspects of enrolling in such studies.
What will this platform allow you to do in terms of furthering your work moving forward?
With this platform, I am more motivated to enhance my research outcomes and reach a world-class scientific outcome by leveraging efficient research facilities. I am proud to be recognized by L’Oreal.

What is the biggest challenge you face?
Finding answers to questions no one asked before.
In an industry that is often dominated by men, how do you ensure your voice is heard?
By working hard, and proving that my effort is translated to an impact, through scientific publications in prestigious journals and the novel outcomes achieved throughout the research journey.
What does it mean to you to represent your country in the world of science?
I am more than pleased and honoured to be granted the L’Oreal UNESCO For Women in Science and to represent my country, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on such a prestigious platform. The leadership of the UAE is and will always be a major source of inspiration and support for which I am forever grateful. I look forward to taking an active role in the knowledge-driven development of the UAE and the Middle East Region.
What is the professional motto that you live by?
“The world needs science, and science needs women”
Chanel is honouring its history of fragrance with Le Grand Numéro De Chanel event in Paris.
This festive exhibition at The Grand Palais Éphémère invites guests on a journey through the House’s olfactory journey. The immersive experience invites visitors to discover the house’s fragrances from iconic to classic, to the most recent designs. The experience allows guests to smell, touch and discover the world of fragrance heightening the senses and taking them on a journey.

“Fragrance has meaning, and the whole environment created around a fragrance—the visual aspect, the experience—adds something to it. We developed tools that allow people to smell fragrances as well as ingredients, making the experience fully immersive, which, in my view, is essential.” Said Olivier Polge, Chanel’s In-House Perfumer Creator. “What’s fantastic about fragrance is that it cultivates our imagination; smelling a scent takes us on a journey. The magic of a fragrance also lies in the fact that we are unable to put our finger on the exact feeling that it arouses in us; it plays with our emotions and transports us to a place that we cannot describe. And this element of mystery is part of the dream. For all these reasons, I hope visitors will be surprised.” He explained.

The event is a way of showcasing not only the brand’s current and previous perfumes but sharing the history of the connection between Chanel and fragrance over the years. It aims to evoke memories and thoughts in the minds of the visitors, highlighting the importance of fragrance in our lives. “Fragrance has an extraordinary ability to evoke things in people and recall memories from their lives; it’s one of the aspects of my job that I enjoy most. Fragrance reaches us on a very intimate level, and I think that is what makes it so powerful. I often hear extremely personal stories about cities people lived in, and memories of loved ones—we have so many anecdotes about fragrances. We tend to personify them.” Said Polge.

“Fragrance is a connection to the world around us, a way of portraying ourselves to the world; it expresses our personality just like the clothes we wear or our mannerisms. Fragrance reveals yet another facet, something that cannot be conveyed any other way. What I really like is when the person wearing a fragrance contributes to its story, brings it to life, and I love being surprised when a fragrance is worn a certain way or paired with a certain style—it can be very unexpected! We can’t categorize people by their tastes, just like a fragrance is not meant for one age group more so than another. What matters is the chemistry between a fragrance and the person who wears it.” He explains.

Over the years many of Chanel’s fragrances have become icons, differentiating themselves from others on the market and remaining true to the couture history of the house. “Chanel fragrances are different.” Said Polge. “They were the first fragrances created by a dressmaker; Gabrielle Chanel had the incredible intuition that a fragrance could express one’s style. Nowadays, fashion and fragrance are a natural pairing, but at the time, she was a visionary! She didn’t tie her style to a specific raw material, but rather to a state of mind, something more refined and less representational. N°5 is an artificial fragrance, a more complex blend than a formula linked to one specific flower. And this is quite characteristic of Chanel fragrances, which are always very elaborately crafted and a key component of which are flowers.”

Le Grand Numéro De Chanel exhibition will run from 15th December to 9th January at the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris. Entry is free. Register at grand-numero.chanel.com.

Giorgio Armani presented the Giorgio Armani Neve Fall Winter 22 – 23 collection on 11th December with a beautiful show in St Moritz.
Held at the St Moritz Olympic Stadium in the presence of Mr Armani, it showcased the brand’s latest ski and outdoor-wear designs for men and women, combining fine craftsmanship with technical fabrics and functional pieces.

Comprising of pieces that make up the ultimate mountain wardrobe the collection is dedicated to moments in the mountains with a focus on outerwear and sport while reflecting the styles and elegance of the brand with a strong heritage imprint. Giorgio Armani references the first Neve collection launched in the nineties and the design aesthetic of that time.

The Italian brand chose the historical setting which has been the setting for two editions of the Winter Olympic Games because of its impactful and distinctive design which perfectly matches that brand’s style, complete with impressive surroundings and beautiful light. Guests were seated on minimal wooden seats while an external façade featured mirrored panels and metal details in light gold.

For the occasion, the Giorgio Armani boutique in Via Serlas presented a special set-up in line with the show concept, featuring mirrored elements to reflect the surrounding environment and panorama.

The Giorgio Armani Neve tour will continue throughout the winter season with stops in other prestigious ski resorts in Europe: Megève (from 6 December 2022 to 30 March 2023), Verbier (18 December 2022 to 18 March 2023) and finally Courchevel (11 February to 7 April 2023).
As part of the recent Dior Tears Men’s Capsule collection, the brand has introduced a 3D-printed helmet.
The designs take inspiration from science fiction but explore it in a Dior way.
The helmets are comprised of various materials first brought together in a digital format. Each section is printed separately before being assembled by hand.

The back of the helmet and the grills at the side feature the classic Dior Cannage, and the CD diamond logos are integrated into the programming of the printing.
This unique method of production means that the exact same design can be reproduced over and over again.
