Strong and standout, the Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2022 collection “Breath of Wild” is designed for women that are sophisticated and always strikingly clad, with a distinct edge that brings vibrancy, liveliness and clever fun to their carefree everyday lifestyle.
Bold, saturated hues and rich, supple textures bring rejuvenating intensity to naturally graceful silhouettes. Large deep teal and warm copper leaf prints on black crepe vine through t-shirts, bomber jackets, kimonos, long shirt dresses and wide-legged pantsuits.

Large voluminous dresses in bold monochromatic violet and black taffeta ruffles stand in contrast to Eden rose and Tuscan yellow thigh-high slit gowns with subtly embellished necklines. Monograms bring complexity to simple leisure wear and overcoats in gradient matelassé while accenting modish bright white cashmere sweaters over black pleated skirts. The couture house signature stands out in chunky metallic accessories and glistening abstracted buckles on waistlines and handbags.

For evening, wear a short black cocktail dress is given metallic depth with silver and gold beaded pockets, bodice and sleeve details. Long sleeve jersey gowns with fierce cut-outs that play with opaqueness and transparency provide a new asymmetrical interpretation of the cinched waist.

Feathers punctuate various looks bringing whimsicality and fancy from a bolero jacket over a shimmering gold netting party romper to the bodice of a nude and silver gradient sequin jumpsuit. Evening gowns scream loud in transparent and embroidered layers of multicolour splash that can dance the night away.

Emirati Drag Racer Hamda Taryam believes in following your dreams. As a young girl, she started experimenting with cars and drag racing in the UAE both in the streets and on tracks in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
For her first race, she posed as a boy, after being worried about the expectations or opinion of others if they knew that a woman was competing in such a sport. But she soon overcame her critics and proved that as a young woman she could win races and turn her passion for driving into a career. Hamda was approached by Netflix to appear in “The Fastest,” a documentary which would see selected drivers compete against each other in a variety of cars that they modified themselves. Hamda won the competition and the experience raised her profile in the UAE and the region. Now at the age of 22, Hamda has dreams of competing internationally and she has just qualified for Rally Racing in Pakistan which will see her take that dream to a new level later this year.
In her spare time, Hamda uses the money she makes from racing to help those in need. Her foundation; the Hamda Foundation helps to provide, education and medical facilities for those in need in specific communities in Africa. By the age of 21, Hamda had helped with the reconstruction of a school and home for orphans in the small Ugandan town of Masaka. After meeting with some of these children she discovered that the people of this town had no medical facilities, so she used her earnings from racing to fund a hospital in the same town. It has since provided care for thousands of Ugandans in need of urgent medical support who would have otherwise struggled to get treatment. Here we find out more about Hamda’s life on and off the track and discover what she still wants to achieve that she hasn’t done yet.

Tell us about your passion for drag racing and how you first got involved in motorsports?
I started racing when I was young and it was more of a passion at that time. I began by racing in the streets but eventually started going to the track to race at Dubai Autodrome. Here I started racing with other cars to see which was better for me and then I got hooked! That’s how I got to where I am now.
How did you first discover that you enjoyed racing?
In the UAE people love to race in the streets and it’s something that I was exposed to from a young age. The first time I raced, no one knew I was a girl, and I just wanted to see what it was like. Then once I had tried it, I started to think about what my car would need to help me go faster and to win races. That’s why I became interested in modification and started to adjust my cars and race others. I started to win street races and gradually it became a career. I began going to the tracks, I got sponsors and somehow I reached the level that I’m at today.

Have you competed against any other women, and in a sport that is usually associated with men, what challenges do you face?
It is a little strange but I have never competed against any other women. I know other women are racing in the UAE but so far I have only raced against men! To answer the second part of your question, I think I went through the phase where others judged me while I was very young, as I was quite popular in the racing community from a young age. Surprisingly, women judged me more than men, which was interesting, but I got used to it. And then after being judged for a few years it started to become normal for people to see me and they started to know me and accept me. Once I became one of them, it was easier!
What advice would you give to women who are interested in getting into motorsports?
I would tell them it’s not as overwhelming as you think. Once you’re into it your journey has started and you will enjoy it. So don’t be afraid!

What goes through your mind when you’re driving?
Honestly, nothing goes through my mind except focusing on the race itself. That’s what got me addicted to racing because I feel it’s a form of meditation. It keeps your mind focused and for those few minutes that you’re driving, there is nothing else to worry about. That’s the part that’s most addictive for me and it gives me an awesome feeling.

What is your biggest achievement so far?
My biggest achievement in racing would be reaching where I am now. This year I started to realise how far I’ve come. Before that I was just on autopilot, racing and moving forward, but recently it hit me that I have got to the level that I have and this is a huge achievement for me. I’ve won a lot of races but I’ve also lost a lot of races and for me to get through that and to be where I am today is a huge achievement that I’m very proud of. I’m happy that I kept on going and I’m also happy that I turned my hobby into a career.
On a personal level, my greatest achievement is through my philanthropy work. I have funded the construction of a hospital in Uganda for a small local community that didn’t have access to medical services. This is something that I have wanted to do since I first visited. Before the hospital, I helped the community to reconstruct a school for orphans. And through that, I found out more stories about how this town didn’t have any medical facilities. I honestly couldn’t sleep at night knowing, and I knew I needed to do something to help. So I decided to buy a plot of land and build a hospital. It took ten months and it was a gift from me to that community. It’s now open, we have added a new maternity section and I hope to expand it further.
Is this something you want to do more of as your career progresses?
Yes, I have promised myself that I will use the money I get from racing to further help this community. It’s something really special and important to me and as racing is in a way a hobby, I want to be able to help others through my achievements.

Tell us about the Netflix series “The Fastest” and how you came to be involved in this?
I was contacted by the team who were making the documentary and they invited me to take part. The idea of the race was that many types of cars would race against each other. So for example, I raced with a pickup truck against supercars and small cars. Depending how much you knew about cars and how fast and powerful your car is and your reaction, determines how you do in this kind of race. So it required very skilful driving and a lot of knowledge of cars. I won first place in the race and I couldn’t believe it because I raced in a car that was built in three weeks as my other car was broken at the time! So I ended up using a car that I used to go to the desert in and somehow I won! After appearing on that show there was a big reaction and it was a lot of fun. I think it definitely helped to raise my profile. Somehow people take me and my skills more seriously because I was in a show on Netflix!

We are celebrating the upcoming Emirati Women’s Day – what does this day mean to you and what is a message you would share with other women in the UAE?
Firstly, I think it’s awesome for us to have a day that celebrates all women in the UAE. And my message to other women would be that I believe all women should do what they enjoy doing or whatever they want to do, without thinking about the reactions of others or feeling that as a woman there are things you can’t or shouldn’t do. Go with what you love and what you enjoy and wherever your voice tells you to go.
How do you think the support of Emirati women who want to take on unexpected roles and tasks has increased over the past years?
I think there has been a big shift around this in the last few years and there is so much support from others. Even men supporting women has become so much more noticeable and I think in all categories people are more accepting.

Who has been your biggest support throughout your journey?
My father.
What is something you would still like to achieve that you haven’t done yet?
I want to race internationally. I have qualified for rally racing in Pakistan but I want to do more of that and take it to the next level, racing in countries around the world and getting podiums in those races. That’s my dream. For rally racing, there is a large community and opportunity to race outside of the UAE and I hope I can explore that further.
How do you spend your time when you’re not racing?
I love to spend my time in nature. It can be anywhere. And I love to travel.
You are still young, where do you see your career progressing?
Yes for sure, I’m 22 now and I think at least until I’m 27 I have a lot to achieve in racing.

Who inspires you?
This might sound quite weird but honestly, I inspire myself. When I look back at my life and my achievements and setbacks so far it inspires me to do more and to keep going. I haven’t had a perfect life but I get inspired by how far I’ve come, not only in racing but throughout my whole life.
What is a motto that you live by?
I’m the type of person who doesn’t like to live in the past or continue to address things that have happened in the past. Whatever has happened previously I programme my brain to keep it there and I live day by day.
Where is your favourite place to drive?
I love to ride my motorcycle in Jebel Jais where the mountains are. I feel so free when I’m there it’s amazing.

What else do you want to achieve in 2022?
The rally racing in September of course is a key moment and then on a personal level expanding and building more hospitals in Uganda and also targeting different countries for similar projects to help those who need it.
Celine presented the CELINE Homme SS23 Runway collection in Paris yesterday evening at the Palais de Tokyo.
Titled “Dysfunctional Bauhaus” the collection by Hedi Slimane explores a slimline silhouette with touches of sparkle and glamour.

The presentation also celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Palais de Tokyo, Europe’s largest centre for contemporary creation and the place where Slimane first presented his 2022 menswear collection for Dior Homme twenty years ago. The designer wanted to pay tribute to the institution and remember this moment in his career and his journey of designing menswear.
As with all of his presentations Slimane created a 360 package around his show, collaborating with artists and musicians to bring his vision to life.

Live music was provided by the emerging New York-based band Gustaf. The band’s live set is constantly in flux, resulting in a sound that is emotive and infectiously danceable.

Award-winning Emirati Show Jumper Amna Bani Hashem has ridden horses for the UAE’s Godolphin team, and now she has her sights set on the Olympics.
With qualifications in thoroughbred riding, breeding, horse care, transportation, and stable management, she is an expert in her field and a multi-talented athlete who hopes to inspire a generation of women with her passion for sport as she continues to ride, as well as being an international advocate for women’s empowerment. Here, we find out more about her journey so far, and what’s next on her path to success.
Tell us about your journey to becoming a showjumper, what first inspired you to become involved in this industry?
What inspired me to pursue a career in show jumping was the horses themselves. The human/horse connection stole my heart. Strangely, I did not have any family or friends who were involved in the sport, and riding was not a trend at the time. It was a matter of fate, something that felt like the love of horses was a gift from God.
My first teacher was at Reem Al Abbar stables. She was a very strong woman, as well as a very talented rider that loved what she did. Her passion was felt by others, and translated into her riding. I will never forget how she taught me how to lead a horse, and how to get on. That memory is ingrained in my mind and this is where my passion began. I started show jumping in a humble farm stable in Al Ruwayyah. I did my first competition three months later in Abu Dhabi on a horse called contender challenger. Later on, I progressed to buy my own horse, named Victorious. I competed with him at a low level for two years and after that, my efforts were recognised by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, who sponsored me to be a part of his team in flat racing. I later returned to show jumping a few years later, only to win the UAE championship in my first season back. I have been competitively show jumping ever since, and hopefully for many more years to come.

As well as show jumping you juggle many different roles – how do you manage your time?
I had to develop discipline and respect for time. I realised that time is very valuable and I need to spend it on something productive. I had a lot of ambitions, so if I wanted to get them done I needed to make the time. In essence, we all have time to do everything we want but it is a matter of how serious you are about doing it.
Tell us about your interest in competitive shooting?
Shooting came as a surprise on my journey. It started at a friend’s private shooting range where they handed me a traditional rifle and dared me to shoot a small rubber square in the distance.
They didn’t think I’d get it.. but I did. I got the second one too. They, later on, pushed me to join some competitions in which I performed quite well.

How do you think it has become more accepted for women in the Emirates to compete in sports at the highest level?
I think the UAE has really created a space for women to excel in any field professionally. In regards to show jumping, a woman has the chance to reach high levels if she works hard and has the drive and determination to. However, a woman who is self-funded in this sport can reach her goals in a more direct way with more control over her decisions.
What is your biggest achievement so far and what would you still like to achieve?
My biggest achievement would be winning the UAE championships in 2021 and being recognised and awarded by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Another achievement was my invitation to complete leadership skills at the royal military college Sandhurst. My goal now is to be on the international scene.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your life and your career so far?
Overcoming a near-death experience because of an injury.
We are looking forward to the upcoming Emirati Women’s Day – what does this mean to you and what is a message you would share with other women in the UAE?
For me, it means to me to be united. And to find myself in other women and them in me. It is a celebration of unity and trust and different people coming together as one.

We know you are an advocate for women’s empowerment, tell us why this topic means a lot to you and how you think gender equality has progressed in the UAE?
Women are the backbone of society and although I am an advocate for empowering all people, as a woman, I love to see other women grow, excel and receive equal respect. I encourage women to challenge gender stereotypes in the region and laud female achievers who pave the way in male-dominated sports. When it comes to supporting my gender, I aim to inspire and set an example. I feel the UAE has made significant efforts to progress gender equality which is a true testament to the country’s devotion to its people.
What is something you would still like to see happening on this subject?
I would like to see more women speak up about their experiences openly and feel safe to seek help if they feel they need it.
When you are in a world that is highly dominated by men, how do you ensure that your voice is heard?
Be calm but hardworking. Results speak louder than words.
What is a message that you would send to other young women to encourage them to chase their dreams?
Believe in yourself and your vision. That is key for you to keep going when things get tough.

Who has been your biggest support throughout your journey?
My biggest support has been my best friend; Muna, she has always been my personal cheerleader and a solid rock for me to lean on in hardship.
What is the motto that you live by?
Take small, yet consistent steps and cover thousands of kilometres in distance. That is my philosophy.
What else is in the pipeline and what do you want to achieve in 2022?
I have many exciting goals and opportunities currently in the pipeline. The one I am most eager about is starting my own business.

Burberry has opened not one but two new stores in Doha, Qatar at the city’s Place Vendôme Qatar.
The first store is dedicated to menswear, womenswear and accessories, and the other to childrenswear.

Designed in collaboration with renowned architect Vincenzo De Cotiis, the store’s concept sees the house’s iconic codes stylistically reinterpreted and luxuriously realised. Taking inspiration from the evolution of the signature Burberry Check. The concept combines mirrored ceilings with intersecting metallic grids and roaming tiled chequerboard floors, each reflecting one another and creating a sense of openness.

A colour palette of beige, black and white is explored throughout the store in a variety of textures, from concrete and ceramics to high-gloss finishes, juxtaposing brutalist elements with luxurious materials and made-to-measure furniture to create a distinctly modern feel.
The childrenswear store features a more playful aesthetic with the iconic Burberry stripe running throughout as well as a toy house-style structure and floor-to-ceiling mirrored walls.

Offering an assortment of childrenswear from the latest Spring/Summer 2022 and Autumn/Winter 2022 collections, the store features a selection of outerwear, ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories. From iconic trench coats and archive beige cashmere scarves to newborn sets, sweatshirts, hoodies, shorts, mini dresses and more.
Now open at Place Vendôme Doha, Qatar.
During summer it’s more important than ever to take care of our skin, protecting it from the sun and ensuring you get that glowy, fresh-faced holiday complexion. Heat and humidity are rarely our friends when it comes to our skin and living in high temperatures affects not only the appearance of the skin but also its health. Whether you’re staying in the UAE this summer or heading elsewhere, a few simple changes in your daily skincare regimen can ensure you glow through the season smoothly.
Dubai’s go-to skincare and laser expert, Rebecca Treston shares 5 simple steps for achieving a beautiful summer skin glow while tackling the heat:

The scorching summer heat can be unforgiving on your skin and dermatologists recommend a broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30 for all exposed skin areas. Apply this around 20 minutes before you head out into the sun and don’t forget to apply it on your hands and feet. Regular use of sunscreen can go a long way in minimising sun-related spots and helps in avoiding sagging skin, fine lines, and wrinkles. Also, don’t forget to re-apply throughout the day, especially if you have been inside for a long time since the last application.
Dry skin can be your worst nightmare on hot summer days. Using face mists can refresh and revive tired skin within seconds. It not only helps you cool down, but also gives you a dewy glow with a feel-good effect on your skin. One tip is to keep it refrigerated and apply it throughout the day to refresh and reinvigorate.
The skin on our lips is extremely sensitive and much thinner than that on the rest of our face and body, making it vulnerable to the effects of harsh sunlight and drying AC. Fortunately, there are lip protecting balms that incorporate a specialised SPF sun protection that look and feel great. Don’t forget to keep re-applying this regularly throughout the day.
Moving in and out of AC-controlled areas can cause your skin to dry out so it needs far more hydration in warmer weather. Taking more than one shower a day when the weather is hot also dries out skin, so it’s essential to moisturise your face and body regularly.
Be mindful of how much time you’re spending in the sun and try to deliberately seek shade where possible. Depending on your skin type, 5 to 20 minutes of sun exposure is enough to cause sun damage. Wear wide-brimmed headgear, suitable UV protective eyewear to protect the delicate skin on your face and eyes and use an umbrella to avoid exposing yourself to direct sunlight.
As the summer kicks in it’s time to embrace prints and colour. We discover some of the latest pieces for men that combine comfort with a touch of retro style.

On the occasion of the 2022 edition of Shark Week, Panerai has pledged to support manta ray conservation in a new partnership with Razer and environmental non-profit organisation Conservation International.
This new partnership will focus on satellite tagging manta rays to gather data on temperature, depth, and location which can be paired wot known hazards and other information to inform conservation management of the animals and their habitat.

The manta ray programme is led by Conservation International’s world-renowned coral reef ecologist and marine conservationist Dr. Mark Erdmann, who said, “The data from our ongoing research on manta rays has led to the development of sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities, supported the creation of new protected areas, and informed policy changes that protect these species and their ocean environment. We are excited to extend this program together with Panerai and Razer.”
This initiative will also contribute to the “Panerai Ocean Conservation Initiative” mission developed in partnership with IOC-UNESCO. The initiative features a worldwide educational campaign throughout 100 universities to educate students on the oceans and enlighten them on how a luxury brand such as Panerai can be a force for good for the planet with a serious commitment towards sustainability.
Razer, the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers also shares Panerai’s passion for sustainability and launched a ten-year programme in 2021 to protect and preserve the environment.

“The objective of ocean preservation is an indispensable consideration in all that we do, in the manufacture and beyond. Our partnership with Razer and Conservation International is no exception, and it demonstrates our 360-degree approach to improving the marine environment. The project convincingly shows that safeguarding ocean wildlife isn’t a zero-sum game. Instead, protecting the manta supports a healthy ecosystem, including the people who are part of it,” says Jean Marc Pontroué, CEO at Panerai.
In December Panerai will also unveil a limited-edition series of an iconic watches bearing Razers’ signature aesthetics and made with recycled materials.
Abeer Sultan Al Ameri has had a passion for design and interiors since a young age, but that love grew when she first visited Europe and discovered some of the luxurious and regal designs of palaces and homes around the world.
When she realised there was a space in the Middle East to bring some of this elegance to homes in the UAE she decided to open her own home decor company. Earlier this year Abeer launched Salud Design and her dream became reality. With her company, Abeer aims to redefine the state of luxury and interior decor in the region by offering clients the best of opulence and elegant interiors in the comfort of their own homes.
Bringing a taste of Europe to the Middle East, Abeer and her team work on a personalised experience with each of their clients to redesign their homes, sourcing antiques and commissioning custom-made furniture pieces to give their homes the regal touch and exceed their imagination. Abeer prides itself in providing the best quality goods and services all the while working harmoniously with top-notch vendors, associates, contractors, and artisans in order to deliver elegant, sophisticated and luxurious homes in the region. As Salud Design opens its first physical boutique in Dubai’s Design District we find out more about the company and the what the future holds for Abeer.
Tell us about your brand Salud Design and what we can expect?
Salud Design is a family-run boutique decor firm. I spearhead the company and my mother works alongside as a consultant, as she has double the years of experience in the field! Working with Salud is a unique experience, we are not interested in enforcing cliché or stereotype decor design; instead, we aim to achieve and turn what our clients dream of, into reality. Our client’s comfort and our complete professionalism are always the topmost priorities throughout the process of every project.

You just opened your first boutique in Dubai Design District what does this moment mean to you?
It’s been a long time coming! I’ve always believed that I’m at my best when I can use my creativity, expertise, and imagination to communicate with others. I’ve worked exceedingly hard, for several years, and I’ve channelled all I’ve learned in life into this business. Now that I’m here, I aim to make it last forever.
Where do your source your pieces and what do you look for when you are sourcing?
Currently, we have international ties with a very exclusive list of antiquarian and furniture manufacturers, so we pin each client’s request and check if a specific piece is currently in stock. If not, we widen our search to auction houses or personal collectors.
In terms of furniture, we custom design most of the furniture to best fit the client’s needs. In the case of antiques, we would determine the value of the object, its condition, and whether or not it would require any renovation, this is then followed by finalising details with regards to finance and shipment. We always make certain that the item is delivered by the most secure and convenient logistical route.
When did you first discover your passion for interior design?
In my second year of college, I began taking drawing lessons and learning how to use AutoCAD and Photoshop. I noticed that the majority of what I would do was interiors and buildings. What further cemented my passion, was my first trip to Europe, post-graduation, where I was completely captivated by the decor of royal palaces.
What are some of the interior trends you are enjoying this year?
I am very excited about bold colours being back on trend, with a mix of tile patterns and wooden walls, it makes for a very warm and intimate setting.

How would you assess the interiors industry and trends in the UAE?
Since 2016, the demand for interior design has been increasing in the UAE, with residential projects accounting for the biggest chunk of the market. New housing construction projects are tied to this growth in demand, which has ushered all kinds of decor trends into the country. At the annual interior design expo, we get to clearly see a magnificent variety showcased. There has undoubtedly been an increase in the diversity of furniture makers and styles, which benefits all those who have relocated and are now living here by providing them with a broader and more comprehensive range of options for furnishing their houses.
What is your personal preference or style when it comes to interior decor?
Vintage Classic. I have always loved it and believe it is the only style that, no matter how old it might be, only grows in value and admiration.
Where is your favourite place to travel for its interiors and décor style?
Austria, Budapest, and Istanbul. Whether in a small family house or a palace, you will always find an interesting piece that tells a magnificent story.
We are looking forward to celebrating Emirati Women’s Day – what does this mean to you and what is a message you would share with other women in the UAE?
I have always said that Emirati women are hardworking women, and while we have only recently seen them in high positions in comparison to other countries, the Emirati woman has been working since the UAE’s inception. Our leaders have opened doors to the entire globe for us and given us their full support to achieve whatever we desire, and we couldn’t be more grateful. We have astronauts, ministers, diplomats, lawyers, physicians and more.

What is a message you would send to women looking to achieve their dreams?
My message to any other woman would be: No matter how powerful you believe you are, increase it by twofold because there is much more to you than you realise. Believe, work hard and always put yourself first.
How do you think the support of Emirati women who want to take on unexpected roles and tasks has increased over the past years?
As I mentioned before, our leaders and our government have provided us with all the resources and tools to attain any position we seek. By offering the highest levels of education, and emotional, and tangible support, they have established a more flexible process and system for women to pursue their goals. As the country develops, we see new employment opportunities being created, and more Emirati women are filling these roles, while also being rewarded and respected for it.
Who has been your biggest support throughout your journey?
Both my parents have always been my number one supporters.
What is something you would still like to achieve that you haven’t done yet?
Just like an antique, I would like to leave a mark and a story about myself for people to share in the feature. Something that I can present to my country and that my children can be proud to be labelled as “The first Emirati Woman to….” I am yet to discover and achieve this.
Who inspires you?
Queen Elizabeth II. I believe she has lived and witnessed every tale that can be told on behalf of a woman, and I also believe she holds the toughest role that will ever exist.
What is a motto or a saying that you live by?
“There is always a solution to every problem which can be achieved through communication.” I have always found that anything can be solved with a simple conversation. Once you talk and share your thoughts, the aspects widen, options expand, and you get closer to resolving the problem.
What else do you want to achieve in 2022?
At the top of my list is to design the interiors of one of the World Island Villas.
Ahead of the 2022 edition of Emirati Women’s Day, Film Director and Producer Nayla Al Khaja discusses her upcoming feature film and her ambitions for the future.
As the UAE’s first female Film Producer and Director Nayla Al Khaja has caused quite a stir in the region’s film industry. But now the UAE-born filmmaker is setting her sights on bigger goals as she begins work on her first feature film; a dream she has had since the beginning of her career. She also recently unveiled her latest project at Cannes Film Festival and has many exciting works in the pipeline. As Nayla prepares to celebrate the latest edition of Emirati Women’s Day, we find out more about her dreams and achieving some of her biggest goals in life.
Last time we spoke you were busy preparing for the UAE’s 50th National Day – tell us how that went and what was the feedback?
I Directed my first music video for the 50th National Day and it went extremely well. It was written by the well-known lyricist Arif Al Khaja. His Highness Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zayed Al Nahyan posted it on twitter, and it went viral.
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on two feature films. My feature debut is called “THREE” and we are currently in pre-production and casting for the parts, and we are working hard to bring a Hollywood talent to play the main character. We will be shooting in Thailand and part of production will be shot in the UAE. We are aiming to release the movie by the end of the year or early next year. The film is about a possessed child, and it is the story of how his mother does everything in her power to protect her son. We see it from a western doctor’s perspective. My second project “BAAB” or “Door” in Arabic shows the grief and loss of a family member in the indigenous parts of UAE. How curiosity leads people down a path that they may not get out of or don’t want to hear. The film is a fantasy drama with horror elements sprinkled in. The music will be composed by two-time Oscar winner AR Rahman using an all-female orchestra called Ferdous. We are planning to start filming it next year.

We recently saw you at Cannes Film Festival, tell us what you were unveiling there?
Cannes was an amazing experience. I met with talented people and announced my next project BAAB and the collaboration with AR Rahman. The film plays an important emphasis on sound, and I am glad AR Rahman is on-board with the project.
How do you see the representation of the Arab world at international events such as this increasing?
I am seeing and hope to see more Arab representation at international events such as this. I think currently, the world doesn’t realise how many talented people we have in the Arab region. We have seen the popularity of Iranian cinema with the works of Asghar Farhadi and his films such as Oscar-winning picture “The Salesman” or Saeed Roustayi’s film “Leila’s Brothers” which made its debut at Cannes Film Festival this year. Let’s not forget Nadine Labaki’s Oscar-nominated film “Capernaum” and Haifa Al Mansour’s multiple award-winning films “Wadjda” and “The Perfect Candidate”. We need more success stories like this. Captivating stories are being told, talented filmmakers and stories are coming out. This can only grow over time, and I am looking forward to the future.
What do you think still needs to be done to highlight regional talents further on a global scale?
I think we need people in power and governments to put more emphasis on giving grants to cherry pick talented individuals. Providing more avenues such as art and film competitions, allowing open platforms to express creativity and accessibility to those platforms by inviting industry professionals and film producers to discover hidden stories waiting to be told. If we allow open and creative freedom regional talents will be discovered, and with the support of the government, it will lead to global recognition.
Another opportunity is the annual Oscar’s foreign film submissions. This is a fantastic way to represent culture and talent within the region, and I believe more funding should be put in place by governments to produce strong artistic work that represents them. Another example is the 48-hour film competition where a vast community gathers to create a film within a set amount of time. This can be taken even further by having producers who see a strong story that can be expanded into feature-length films and by increasing the price pool from private entities who wish to market their brand by acting as sponsors of the winning project. Further support of grants, private funding and taking risks with creative projects should be encouraged by rebates and tax breaks/deductions. I would also argue that encouraging schools and universities to implement stronger programmes in film and art studies and make them affordable and accessible to everyone. I notice, especially in my region, that this is very weak. It starts from the very bottom and continues all the way to the top. There is work to be done for sure, but we are getting there.

We are looking forward to celebrating Emirati Women’s Day this August – what does this mean to you and what is a message you would share with other women in the UAE?
I am proud of my heritage, and I am proud to be a woman. I love the industry I am in, and I want to inspire many women and generations to do what makes them happy. You can push yourself to do anything you want in life.
Compared with a few years ago we are seeing many more women from the UAE in the film industry, how would you assess the progress of this?
This is a good step in the right direction. I think social media has played a huge role in this as it gives a window into other people’s lives. Everyone has a voice and expresses it in any way they choose. More women are jumping into fields that have been predominantly male dominated in the past. We are seeing great female leaders, directors, artists, and entrepreneurs, and each of them are given a platform to voice their opinions.
The film industry is changing as well. Overall filmmaking or the movie industry is a team effort. Sure, you can argue that certain positions have more authority than others such as a producer, director, studio executives and so on, and women are now finally taking a front seat. The UAE has embraced women’s empowerment and we can see the result of that today. Change is happening as more women are showing interest in the field, and experience builds reputation. Ultimately your reputation in the industry is what truly matters. Getting involved and proving your worth and your talent takes years, and this is very important.
How do you think the support of Emirati women who want to take on unexpected roles and tasks has increased over the past years?
The support has of course increased. As I mentioned before, we are seeing great leaders, artists and entrepreneurs emerging from the UAE. Culture and society are shifting to recognise the importance of women, the barriers are breaking down. In my industry, I am seeing more women including Emirati women venturing into the field. I do believe globalisation; the internet and social media have played a huge role in breaking down the barriers. More women are expressing themselves and taking the initial steps to pursue their passions.
Who has been your biggest support throughout your journey?
My mother is my ultimate role model. She is my biggest inspiration. She has done so much for me; I keep counting my blessings for her every day.

What is something you would still like to achieve that you haven’t done yet?
I am already halfway there. I have been striving to do feature films for so many years since my humble beginnings. I had enough experience in short-form storytelling and TVCs that it was a natural step for me to take my skills to the next level. I am excited, as I have a wonderful team and supportive people helping me to make it happen. We have a long road ahead, but I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
What is a motto or a saying that you live by?
Don’t be afraid to take risks.
What else do you want to achieve in 2022?
I want to create a strong dent in the feature film world so I can break out and direct global projects.
Charlotte Casiraghi is the face of Chanel’s Fall-Winter 2022/23 pre-collection campaign, shot by international photographer SMITH.
Casiraghi was a muse for Virginie Viard when she created this collection, capturing her understated elegance, electric attitude and depth through her choice of silhouettes, materials and colours.

“Charlotte embodies the CHANEL allure in a very authentic and natural way, all while remaining true to her own world,” says Virginie Viard.
“Virginie has known me since I was a child. It’s a natural complicity that doesn’t need explanation,” Charlotte Casiraghi explains. When I discovered the collection, I found the things I like to wear every day and what I really feel comfortable in. There are a lot of jeans, shirts, fabrics with a certain depth like velvet… It’s important to be able to choose, to express something different depending on the moment.”

The campaign images are accompanied by a short film where Charlotte takes a walk through a mysterious landscape. This poetic story captures the slow and mysterious elegance of this collection.
The CHANEL Fall-Winter 2022/23 pre-collection will be available in boutiques from July 19th 2022.

Hermès has unveiled a new high jewellery collection for 2022 marking the House’s 7th collection.
“Les jeux de l’ombre” is a collection of 53 pieces designed by Pierre Hardy, Creative Director of Hermès jewellery.
The designer explored the contrast between shadow and light and the movement between the two. Coloured stones are juxtaposed with a black shadow that surrounds them beyond their edges, protecting them and broadening their radiance.

The Lueurs du jour rings, earrings, and necklace, this shadow takes the material form of jade, worked by hand to give it a satin finish. On the Ombres mobiles pieces, the shadow is titanium, set like a precious metal into the rose gold.

As the light travels through this collection, the jewellery pieces appear to break free from their shadow and radiate an intense and colourful glow, enhanced by their gemstones in dégradé or monochrome shades as on the Miroir d’ombre necklace, which divides into two.

On the Chaînes d’ombre necklace, the juxtaposition of flat-cut white diamonds shadowed by dégradés of black spinels and blue sapphires gives the chaîne d’ancre chain link its volume. A unique approach to pavé setting brings the form to life while respecting the design.

Gracefully flexing across the skin, this necklace required almost 2,000 hours of meticulous craftsmanship, including 700 hours of gem-setting to individually and carefully position each stone.
The Couleurs du jour necklace, a triptych that opens and closes, concealing its treasures or exposing them to the light, makes use of particularly ingenious jewellery mechanisms.

Lastly, there is a radiant ode to shades of colour… Rough, uncut stones: yellow diamonds, brown diamonds, spessartite garnets, tsavorite garnets, and tourmalines chosen for their intensity, give rise to Lumières brutes, a series of unique rings and earrings. By filtering the light, these stones produce variations of a single shade that take us back to their original splendour, as treasures of the earth.
Valentino Promenade, the Pre-Fall collection by Valentino combines modern cuts and silhouettes with the House’s heritage. A collection that’s both wearable and aspirational this playful offering is perfect for the summer months.
“I always think my work is to take a new picture of something that you know already, I do it with new life and new shapes, so you view the landscape from my way of seeing,” says Pierpaolo Piccioli, Creative Director of Maison Valentino of this collection.

“When Mr Valentino started designing, there were so many rules for how you wore clothes,” says Piccioli. “Now, fashion is about self-realisation. This collection is shifting Valentino to this new world, giving new meaning to the codes and values.” Piccioli takes Valentino signatures and gives them a fresh outlook with his choice of colours and prints. Stripes and zebra prints on capes and blouses offer a new take on classics and new prints and embroideries create the feminine touch that Valentino is known for.

There is also freeness to this collection; A floor-length dragon print silk shirt can be worn as a dress, a summer coat, “we don’t need to define it,” says Piccioli, “wear it however you want.”

A cropped striped sweater is worn with a utilitarian jacket, mini-skirt and Valentino Garavani sneakers. An embroidered cape, minimal in cut but maximal in detail, is worn with a simple sweater, leather pants and Valentino Garavani VLogo Chain loafers.

Calligraphy Artist Maryam Al Balooshi shares the story of how her passion turned into a career.
As a Calligraphy Artist, Author, Chemical Engineer, Climate Change Expert and Aviation and Environment Advisor Maryam Al Balooshi has many roles to juggle. After graduating from University with a degree in Chemical Engineering she was one of the first women to undertake such a role in the Emirates. Along with her University peers, she defied the odds to have a successful career in an industry that had previously only been associated with men. While her career was thriving Al Balooshi always felt something was missing. As a young girl, she had been fascinated by Arabic calligraphy and this was a passion that would soon become a career. In 2018 Al Balooshi began to take her talent for calligraphy seriously and practised the art in her spare time. As she started to become well respected for her artworks in the UAE, Al Balooshi began to be approached by global brands who were keen to share her designs on an international scale. While she was hesitant at first, Al Balooshi soon embraced the opportunity and began to develop a thriving career in calligraphy. Today she juggles her corporate and writing career with her passion for art and the two are starting to come together in a unique way. Here we discover more about her journey so far and her ambitions for the future.

Flowers of Values
Tell us about your journey so far and how your passion for calligraphy came to be a career?
This hobby is something that started when I was around three or four years old. As a child, I was fascinated by calligraphy books. One of my cousins gave me a book to practice with and although I didn’t know what I was doing at the time, I liked the letters and shapes, and I became attached to this unknown concept. When I started school, I began to write in Arabic and when I was in Grade 10, I started to study calligraphy during my summer holidays. For a while, I was in and out of practice when I had the time. I went to college to study Chemical Engineering and I tried to continue with the calligraphy when I could, but in 2003 I stopped as I felt like my life was full at that time and I wanted to focus on my career and my studies.
For six years I didn’t touch calligraphy at all, but after a while, I started to feel like something was missing. My teacher never lost faith in me, and he was always trying to remind me of how good I was. One day, after I completed my master’s degree, I called him on the way back to Dubai and I told him I was ready to come back! And so, in 2009, I went back to it. My tutor told me that I had to start from the beginning again and that’s what I did. This was also the first time I did calligraphy using a bamboo pen, which is much more difficult. It took me around a year of practice to master this technique. In 2010, I remember my tutor asked me; ‘do you want to be a calligrapher or a designer?’ There is a difference. I told him I wanted to be a designer and one day have my own line, sharing my own thoughts. So I began to train my mind visually. I have been on many journeys, met many people and studied many art pieces along the way.
As an author who publishes books, a chemical engineer and at the same time, a calligrapher, a lot was happening in my life. I had one side that was strong and structured and another that was very soft and artistic. In 2018 I decided I wanted to find a way to synchronise all these elements of my personality and decided that all my art pieces should tell a story and come with a message. I decided it wasn’t about how many pieces I was producing but the stories I created through my art pieces. And this is what I have been doing ever since. It consumes a lot of energy and it’s not an easy process because when I set the story or idea I want to have in the piece, I still must redesign it many times to tell this story.

Tell us more about how you tell stories through your works?
In 2018, I presented my second piece with a story to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah. The concept of this artwork was about living together in peace – and this was just before we had the Year of Tolerance in the UAE. It was a huge piece looking at how different cultures and nationalities live together. When I presented this story to His Highness, he told me how he followed my column in the newspaper and he knows me as an author, so he understood the combination of writing, storytelling, calligraphy, and art. So, from this moment, I knew I wanted to start creating pieces and sharing the stories behind these art pieces. It brought all my facets together.
What can you tell us about your partnership with Van Cleef & Arpels?
At the end of 2018, Van Cleef & Arpels approached me as they wanted to create a dialogue to highlight the alignment between calligraphy and jewellery design. I was hesitant because I had never been presented to the public as a calligrapher before and this was very daunting. I worked closely with some of the team at Van Cleef & Arpels and they had faith that we could do something together. There were a lot of discussions about how we wanted to present this dialogue and they were also keen to learn about the history of calligraphy in this region. So we came up with an idea that aligned my work with the jewellery designs and we created a story for each piece. They started to engage with me on their designs and how they were created and the story behind each piece. They wanted to see my studio and my sketches, and they noticed that there was a lot of emotion in them.
During the process, they told me they would like to continue this collaboration and they were convinced. I was very happy that I was the person who convinced them that calligraphy was a world that they had to enter, and most importantly, that they were interested in me as a storyteller, as well as an artist. So, it became an ongoing collaboration. We work together each year to talk about what we can do together for the Holy Month for example. This project changed me as an artist and the way they listened to my story was very rewarding. I am part of the family now and each year they follow the concept that we set and work with a different artist. It has been a good journey and I have a great relationship with the brand.
How long does it take you to create your works?
As it’s not my full-time job, it depends on how much time I have. For my most recent piece I was designing in and out and it took me around a year. I kept coming back to it and I changed the measurements many times. It was a two-metre by one-metre piece and each letter had its own measurement. The story behind this piece is linked to prayer and our connection to Allah.

How do you manage your time?
I don’t have weekends! To be engaged in these works you must enter isolation and focus, and it takes hours and hours of continuous work. To create such a piece, it needs hours of concentration and a lot of preparation. I must mentally prepare for the level of concentration required as well, so I must be in the right frame of mind. And of course, I have another job, so I have to spend hours after work doing it and a lot of time on my weekends.
What is the biggest challenge as a calligrapher?
You will notice that most calligraphers use dark only colours, but from the beginning, I wanted to use brighter colours. Working with colour is an even bigger challenge because it shows your hand movements clearer and there is less room for error. My tutor told me that the big names in the calligraphy world don’t risk their pieces by using colour, but for me, I’m prepared to take the challenge on. It can be very rewarding.
Tell us what you are currently working on.
I am currently redesigning my Van Cleef & Arpels piece for my own collection by adding a third flower. This represents more values that mean a lot to me and to this region. I initially had twelve values and I’m adding another six including tolerance and ethics, and I will be reintroducing the piece with my updated version once it’s finished.
What’s something you would still like to achieve?
A solo exhibition. So far I have only done a semi-solo in 2013 where I showed my work alongside two calligraphers, but at that time I was still starting out. What I’m doing today is totally different, even the quality is different. So I would like to present my own pieces on a solo platform where visitors can understand and immerse themselves in the stories I am telling. I have three or four more pieces to create until I’ll be ready to present them as my first solo exhibition. I want to curate something that will present me as an author as well as an artist and combine the two. It will take a lot of effort but it’s honestly the only exhibition I want to do in my life. It will be something unique for the local calligraphers here in the UAE because we are few and unfortunately people don’t yet consider us to be at the same level as global calligraphers, but we are trying hard to make our mark.

How do you get inspired for the stories that you tell through your works?
Sometimes the letters come first and sometimes it’s the story. When I find works or passages that I like I write them down and I start thinking about the meaning. There is a lot of spiritual connection. Then when I start to think about all the details of the meaning of each word it starts to become art. Sometimes I think about the overall story I want to tell, and the details come together. Sometimes it is based on a personal experience. It is a real process that takes a lot of time and a lot of concentration. Sometimes my clients put pressure on me to create the pieces within a certain timeframe but if there is no story, I cannot present the pieces. It takes a lot of patience on both sides.
Can you share a little about the paper that you use?
My papers are natural and are mostly sourced in Japan. I went to Tokyo and selected them. Once I choose them, the papers are sent to my teacher in Istanbul to be coated with a special treatment. These papers are very natural and thin so you cannot just put ink on them as it would bleed, and if this happens you cannot correct it. So first it goes to Istanbul, and it comes to me after six months because there is a season for coating. When it arrives back after this process, you should ideally you should keep it for another six months to let it settle. So, by the time I started to work on it, it had been more than a year! The scary moment is that if you make a mistake, you have to wait another year for another batch of paper, but I do have a collection, don’t worry! Then of course, once the piece is done there is a whole process for framing and there are so many things to consider around this to ensure the work doesn’t get damaged.

This month we are celebrating Emirati Women’s Day – what does this day mean to you?
For me, it is a very special day because it represents the day when the General Women’s Union was established by Her Highness Fatima bint Mubarak Al Ketbi, Mother of the Nation. I was personally supported by this union in 2003 when I was jobless. After I graduated as a Chemical Engineer there was a limitation in hiring women in this field because the community was just starting to understand that Chemical Engineers could be women. I was one of the first batches of women to graduate in this field and there was hesitation to hire us as some people thought women would be incapable of doing the job. So, we struggled to get jobs, especially in Dubai. It took me two years to find a job in the industry and this only happened because the General Women’s Union forced the oil company to take me.
So that’s why this day means so much to me because the Union made my career happen. They really support women, and they are always active behind the scenes. I have met Her Highness Fatima bint Mubarak Al Ketbi twice and she is amazing. First at my graduation from my Bachelor’s Degree. She spoke to me as an engineer and told me how proud she was. She spent time with each of us and spoke to us all in detail. Then I met her again when I did my Master’s degree. Again, she spent a few minutes talking to me and took time to hear my story. These moments meant so much. She is the Mother of the Nation and I was privileged to meet her. She has the charisma of a strong woman, and I was really influenced by her as she continues to deliver a true message around the UAE. She always encourages us and stands behind us. The ladies that work for this union are so humble and kind and I think that reflects her personality.
So I admire that we have a special day that celebrates the achievements of women. Some might say that there is too much light now on women in the UAE, but the journey was not easy for any woman that you see now in the top or unique positions. We have been carrying the responsibility that we need to represent our country in different ways and juggle many things as a woman and without the encouragement, we wouldn’t have reached anywhere.
How do you think things have progressed since your graduation and do you think women are more accepted in these kinds of roles today?
There is a big change for sure. We now have young generations who believe anything is possible and they have seen the changes put into practice. Today, the younger generations know that they can make an impact with their choices and the perception has changed a lot. I always thought I would be only an engineer. But I moved from engineering to aviation, to local government, to the government of the UAE, to politics. I was a very shy person before 2010 and I never thought I would share my views publicly. But many people I worked for pushed me hard in a very tough way to share my views and values and I am very grateful for that.
What advice would you give to other women who want to go for something that might be out of their comfort zone?
They need to be patient. They need to take their journey step by step. Everyone has a story to tell, and you can’t just tell it without having the process of getting there. So be patient. I meet a lot of young people who want the results to be immediate, but it doesn’t happen like this. You need to go through the process, and it won’t always be easy. You also need to take opportunities that are right for you and most importantly, enjoy the journey.

What’s the motto that you live by?
I am a very spiritual person and I always say that good things happen in my life because Allah made the choice for me. I believe that everything that has happened in my life was for a reason.
What can we expect to see from you for the rest of the year?
I’m working on my biggest piece yet which I hope to finish this year. This is going to be a piece that I am very proud of because it will have His Highness Sheikh Zayed’s name on it, and I am trying to summarise his legacy in this piece.

Saint Laurent travelled to the desert close to Marrakech to present the Men’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection with a spectacular presentation.
Anthony Vaccarello’s collection celebrated the blurred lines between masculinity and femininity and had clear retro influences, taking inspiration from the seventies and eighties eras.
Marrakech has been a city that the brand holds close to its heart since the moment Yves Saint Laurent discovered it in 1966. It became a home away from home for the designer and a place to escape the business of Parisian life.
The show’s impressive setting honoured the beauty and landscape of Morocco and was inspired by “The Sheltering Sky”, a novel 1949 novel by Paul Bowles. Set in the middle of the desert the show was centred around a large ring-shaped structure; an oasis in the barren landscape.

The tuxedo, one of the brand’s iconic pieces was reinterpreted as Vaccarello with new feminine influences building on the silhouette that was explored in the women’s Autumn/Winter 2022 collection. The new shape featured a new colour and shoulders, single and double-breasted options and a new cream iteration of the tuxedo in a lightweight silk faille.

Throughout the collection the silhouette features a high waist and wide leg, creating an elongated shape, occasionally interrupted with narrow or boxy accents. There is a more relaxed feel, reflecting the mood and life of Marrakech.

This July, during Paris Fashion Week Italian jewellery Buccellati showcased a selection of never-seen-before pieces from its vintage collection dating as far back as the 1940s.
These treasured jewels were showcased at the jeweller’s rue Saint Honoré boutique as clients and guests came to discover part of the history of the brand and the Buccellati family.

The bold jewellery collections were carefully selected for their symbolic connection to the Maison and its evolution over the years. Pieces dated from as far back as the forties through to the nineties and each piece has a strong story surrounding it thanks to the incredible level of craftsmanship as well as the culture and customs of their time.

The vintage collection was curated as a result of a delicate operation, delving into the brand’s heritage and studying and researching more than 20,000 original drawings, 500 moulds and over 6,000 photographs over the last few years, to discover some of the forgotten treasures of the Maison.

Each piece featured in the collection is kept in its original case where possible, or a specially designed case, mirroring the design of that era. Each piece will also come with a certificate of guarantee, which will include an image of the actual product and a copy of its original design.

The Vintage collection pieces will be available for purchase at selected Buccellati boutiques around the world. Including Milan, Rome, Paris, London, New York and Los Angeles.
Dr. Med. Vet. Antoinette Sarasin Gianduzzo, BIO-R® discusses reversing the signs of ageing.
There is no denying the universal wish to look and feel younger as we age. Whether it’s investing in anti-ageing creams, quick-fix cosmetic procedures or using the latest makeup products, women and men will try anything to delay the unavoidable effects of ageing. But Dr. med. vet. Antoinette Sarasin Gianduzzo, Director of Biomolecular Restoration (BIO-R®), Nutrition & Lifestyle, believes restoring balance from the inside out at a cellular level is the secret. The holistic programme BIO-R® is designed to target issues at a deeper level, offering a personalised programme for clients, with results spanning revitalisation, increased energy levels, avoidance of diseases, better long-term health and, visible results of anti or “reverse” ageing.

Dr. Antoinette Sarasin Gianduzzo
The BIO-R® programme, which is offered exclusively by The Kusnacht Practice, is a fully holistic destination with two locations in Switzerland. They focus on three pillars of healthcare: conventional medicine, innovative medicine (BIO-R®), and psychiatric care. The practice is a world leader in the treatment of dependencies and psychological disorders and the BIO-R® programme is a biomolecular rejuvenation cure for the body and brain, designed to boost and maximise physical and emotional well-being. The Kusnacht Practice offers a bespoke luxury experience for visitors, catering to their every need. Clients are collected from the airport and driven to the exclusive destination where each guest is given a private villa. Upon arrival, they will be met by their live-in councillor who will stay with them to assist with whatever they require. A private BIO-R® nutrition chef is provided to prepare food in the villa according to the brief from the BIO-R® team, and of course, this is complemented by housekeeping professionals, a chauffeur and luxury concierge services. So there is always someone on hand to help. Especially with the BIO-R® treatment depending on what is being treated, there can be a lot of complementary therapies involved.
Here we find out more about the BIO-R® treatment programme, its benefits and how it can reverse signs of ageing from the inside out.

BIO-R® Laboratory
Can you start by giving us an insight and introduction to the BIO-R® Programme and how it works?
The Biomolecular Restoration programme deals with complex biochemistry which defines how we feel physically, emotionally and psychologically, up until we start to age. It stands for sustainable weight loss, detox, re-energising, improving focus, sharpness, rejuvenation and longevity. And then maintenance for as long as possible after the treatment. And it can also influence the look and beauty of each client from the inside out. Classical medicine looks at symptoms – you get medication or painkillers to solve a problem. But complex biochemistry defines how we feel emotionally, physically and mentally as well as how we age.
With BIO-R® we look at the underlying cause of any symptoms and also define the biological age of our patients with the help of in-depth lab testing which goes far beyond general medical check-ups. We go much deeper around into biochemical processes that make us old and sick or can be an underlying cause of health conditions. For women, we also consider the hormonal aspect and resolving women’s issues.
Based on these in-depth test results and a face-to-face consultation, the programme is then tailormade for each client. Each programme includes recommended supplements, coaching, treatments of different kinds and personalised complementary therapies for the best success.
How does someone know that they need to come to you for this programme?
First of all, the programme is for people who are conscious and aware that ageing is the mother disease of all other diseases. Ageing has pathways in biochemistry that by definition make it a disease, and waiting until we develop a disease and then trying to cure it is never the best way, prevention always prevails. Look at diabetes for example of which the Middle East has the highest rates globally, it’s important to be aware and have the need to prevent it and maintain and prolong the phase in life where you feel fully energised.
If I had to suggest I would say people who are right for this programme are those who have symptoms such as being tired, struggling to sleep, feeling premenopausal, feeling burnt out due to increased stress, or simply just feeling the need for a time out. We also see many families coming together or groups of girlfriends wanting to do something around “reverse ageing” to keep healthy and to experience increased energy, vitality, no pain and no development of pain in the future. And on top of this, to look better, because of course the programme affects your look and shape, especially when weight management is included.

What makes this programme unique and how does it differ from anything else out there?
I think what makes it unique is the true personalisation and individual approach that we offer. As head of the department, I have many clients coming to us talking about a personal approach from previous treatments they have tried. But when I see some of the reports from such clinics, honestly speaking, for me, they are not tailored at all. They are usually segregated into categories and clients are put into the best fitting option without their lifestyle being taken into consideration. And that is where we differ. We offer solutions that adhere to the lifestyle of every client. If it’s convenient to eat dinner at 9pm, for example, we let them eat dinner at 9pm. This personalisation is what we are really strong at, and when we say personalisation it is really personalised in every way possible because our end goal, which is something that also makes us different, is that we want clients to be able to sustain these lifestyles long after they leave the clinic. We are looking for sustainable success, not a quick fix. And to do that, we work to the likes and dislikes and needs of each client. So if they want to eat dessert, we let them eat dessert within the programme we provide.
In short, we create true personalisation because we take into consideration each client’s preferences and environment. And of course, we provide a continuous aftercare programme.
On a day-to-day basis, what would a guest experience look like when they come to the clinic?
They will usually have quite an intense daily programme. If they come as a family for example each person will have their own individual programme. Some people will want to do more sessions in the morning and have leisure time in the afternoons for example, and some may want the opposite. Each programme is personalised for each guest. We have a variety of different sessions happening throughout the day, this can range from specific treatments such as intermittent hypoxic–hyperoxic therapy, or another form of oxygenation of the cells which goes along with rejuvenation, and of course we have treatments such as cryotherapy up to specific heat shots that stimulate protein – it depends if clients are really interested in reverse ageing then we start certain habits that they can continue at home. One aspect is using intermittent bursts of cold and heat with cryotherapy and saunas. There are certain protocols involved such as doing it three times a week for twenty minutes, and this has been scientifically proven to benefit a certain rejuvenation aspect. Intermittent fasting also helps. So all guests get coaching on that and treatments in this direction as well as workouts, personal training, and yoga, but we tailor each one based on the lab results and personal preferences of each guest and what method is best for this person to continue at home.
We also suggest complementary therapies such as reflexology, acupuncture and more, but we do it in a tailored way. If someone is with us because they are burnt out we work with our other teams such as the psychology team to build a programme together. We go in-depth with each person so that we and they understand their strengths, their weaknesses and what they need to focus on in all areas of their lifestyle. There are so many recommendations out there of what you should and shouldn’t do or should and shouldn’t eat so it becomes very confusing. Less is more and also more sustainable and that is what we offer.

The Kusnacht Practice
What do you think is the fascination with wanting to look younger and where do you stand on that?
Our goal is not anti-ageing by putting fillers or Botox into faces and having no wrinkles. Having fewer wrinkles and looking a little bit better or younger is maybe a nice consequence of our programme which targets the cellular rejuvenation processes. And at the end “ageing gracefully” is part of the process and we want to influence and consolidate a good lifestyle for as long as possible. What we want to achieve is for our clients to be full of energy and enthusiasm, have increased levels of energy, vitality, well-being and no physical pain, as well as a positive mindset for as long as possible. We want to improve the quality of the life and ensure that the health span lasts maybe a couple of years longer. Healthspan is not the length of life but the number of years that we are healthy. Looking good and ageing in a nice way, where you feel attractive, is simply a consequence of a certain lifestyle or a certain intake of supplements, or a certain diet, and this is something that people appreciate greatly, especially as they get older.

What message would you send to our readers to invite them and tell them why they should come and experience the BIO-R® programme?
That’s a good question! In fact, it’s everything we mentioned. It’s worth everyone getting an in-depth bio-hacking once in their life of their own biochemistry and that’s what we offer. We are working on more and new innovative lab tests to detect even our inner genetic elements. This will offer an inner understanding of our biochemistry which defines how we feel and offer the chance to correct or rebalance it quite efficiently with a very targeted personalised programme with fast, visible benefits that can be put into practice in daily life at home as well.
Dior has unveiled a new capsule collection “Lucky Dior”. Designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri as part of the Fall/Winter 2022-23 collection, this playful offering celebrates House’s unique heritage.
Paying tribute to Monsieur Dior’s passion for signs of destiny, the astrology-inspired Zodiac Pixel print reinvents the symbols of the star signs in vibrantly coloured designs, on dresses, pants, and shorts as well as flowing ensembles and bathrobes from the Dior Chez Moi wardrobe.
The colourful patterns also feature on a series of Mitzah scarves, Walk’n’Dior sneakers, Dway sandals, as well as on the Dior Book Tote, Lady D-Lite and Lady Dior bags.

The Dior Caro and Dior Addict bags are adorned with another of the House’s fundamentals, Christian Dior’s lucky star, which studs the cannage of these iconic pieces like an enchanting constellation of metallic eyelets.

The collection will be available at Dior stores globally and online.
For her latest high jewellery collection for Boucheron Claire Choisne presents “Elsewhere”. Taking us to a world where anything is possible the Creative Director was inspired by nature in its raw state. From the deserts to the mountains, the oceans to the rainforests, the Parisian jewellery house has brought together contradicting elements to create these one-of-a-kind carte blanche creations.
Claire turned to unexpected materials such as pebbles and burned wood, combining them with precious diamonds and gemstones, to create pieces that are truly out of this world.

BOUCHERON Carte Blanche, Ailleurs Papillon brooch
Focusing on five muses (Sand Woman, Leaf Woman, Earth Woman, Pebble Woman and Volcano Man) the design has offered a number of ways to interpret this collection and its beautiful pieces.
Highlights of the collection include the Galet Diamant (Diamond Pebble) necklace which features real pebbles that have been scooped out to be lightened and have almost become translucent. Adorned with gold tattoos, pear-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds, these pebbles are pierced and linked one by one to each other.

BOUCHERON Carte Blanche, Ailleurs Galet Diamant necklace
The Rotin Diamant (Diamond Rattan) features a natural rattan fibre that was humidified before being dried on a brass frame before a golden rod was inserted in it to maintain its final shape. Diamonds are added to this hard material to create a juxtaposition of soft meets hard. And Art Deco style brooch is also crafted from rattan and 379 brilliant cut diamonds and gold.

BOUCHERON Carte Blanche, Ailleurs_Sand Woman full look
In the second chapter of the story where tropical colours come into place the Feuillage Diamant (Diamond Leaf) cuff bracelet is adorned with a 37.97 carat green tourmaline. It plays with the appearance of a plant weaving. Made of aluminium, its intense green colour comes from a cataphoresis treatment, which is highlighted by thin lines of diamonds giving it a look that is as imposing as this piece is light.

BOUCHERON Carte Blanche, Ailleurs Leaf Woman
This featherweight effect also applies to a Papillon (Butterfly) brooch made of real Lideopsis Vulgaris butterfly wings, which have been treated to be long-lasting before being scanned, to create the gold structure holding them – which reproduces their original curves.

BOUCHERON Carte Blanche, Ailleurs Bois Diamant brooch Still life
In the Earth chapter, the Bois Diamant (Diamond Wood) brooch is a magnetic shoulder brooch, created using flower petals. Each petal of this imaginary flower has been scanned before being recreated in Santos rosewood and then set on an openwork gold structure. The titanium pistils vibrate delicately which each movement brought to the brooch, emphasizing the illusion of realism, while the chromatic palette questions the idea of nature.

BOUCHERON Carte Blanche, Ailleurs Volcano Man full look
And for men, the Creative Director turned to wood as a material of choice. The Bois Brûlé Diamant (Diamond Burned Wood) necklace features three-thousand-year-old marsh oak which was charred according to the Japanese “Chou Sugi Ban” technique to give it extraordinary resilience. Its association with diamonds reveals a powerful and unexpected contrast, between materials one could initially think are contradictory
Meanwhile, The Octopus single earring, designed as a mixture between a tattoo and a sea creature, adorns the head with its white gold arabesques, highlighted by 178 mother of pearl pastilles and 443 brilliant-cut diamonds.
With the Pre-Fall 2022 collection, Max Mara pays tribute to the women who embody one of the house’s key values: “Classic doesn’t have to be conservative”.
The House’s muse for the collection is Frances Ann Lebowitz, a native New Yorker, a writer, wit, raconteur and actor, who is known for her sardonic social commentary. In the seventies she embodied the hip, downtown Manhattan of Andy Warhol’s ‘Interview’ and now she is wowing a new generation of fans in Martin Scorsese’s documentary series “Pretend It’s a City”.

Warhol’s advice to ‘always wear the same thing’ may have influenced the iconic Lebowitz look that Max Mara loves: bespoke Savile Row pinstripe jacket, fine poplin shirt with French cuffs, washed-out jeans, western boots and a cashmere greatcoat.
This collection, therefore, features city-chic dressing combined with understated elegant pieces for the effortlessly cool woman. A colour palette of deep navy, beige and just a hint of soft pink, keeps this clean and simple collection wearable for all.

Pinstripe jackets work perfectly with bleached-out boy-cut jeans, while patchworked prints mirror the ones that decorate men’s ties. To finish, Max Mara’s new season T-shirts, gave a nod to a campaigning streak with boldly graphic slogans.

Pomellato has unveiled its third Gioia high jewellery collection “A Walk in Nature, from Sunrise to Darkness.”
Inspired by the beauty of nature the new collection portrays an imaginary landscape capturing the beauty of light and nature from day to night and highlighting the Italian jeweller’s free-spirited style.
The collection of 33 pieces captures the light, moods and sensations of nature in seven different these, expressed by the unique craftsmanship of the jeweller.
Vincenzo Castaldo, Creative Director of Pomellato discusses his creative inspiration: “During this walk in the natural world, the language revolves around the feeling and sensations of the journey such as the texture of a flower petal, the nuances of a stormy sky or the beauty of a fiery sunset. We wanted La Gioia to generate emotions that blossom on the skin through organic jewellery that follows the movement of the body, adorning it with gold, stones, colours and light. Nature evolves throughout the day capturing its ever-changing facets, creating a dynamic dialogue in tune with our deeply rooted identity and iconic Pomellato style.”
Highlight pieces of the collection include two spectacular rivière-style necklaces from the Secrets of the Rising Sun chapter. These two creations feature baroque-shaped gemstones that tumble over the skin like morning’s first rays of sun over water. Five watery blue aquamarines weighing over 150 carats adorn the first necklace, while the second features over 100 carats of opalescent, azure-hued moonstones, complemented by a blue sapphire pavé. In both necklaces, the central gems are suspended from an Iconica chain.

LIGHT BLUE REEF RIVIERE NECKLACE
From the Shades of the Rainbow chapter of the collection a flexible cuff bracelet is set with more the 2,500 coloured gemstones. The dazzling creation is composed of domed links in rose gold, set with 24 different shades of gems. This sparkling piece highlights the brand’s passion for colour.

RAINBOW FLEX CUT BRACELET
The Midday Gold chapter features three Princess-style necklaces that capture the power of daylight. By mixing the geometry of gold oblong links with the suppleness of white gold gourmette links paved with immaculate diamonds, the jeweller creates a vivid contrast of materials reinforced by the presence of a bright, luminous centre stone. The gemstones are suspended from a diamond-set curb chain joining rose gold cable links. Each gemstone is intricately facetted and generous in volume and surrounded by white diamonds for a high-voltage look. The first necklace is set with an unusual lagoon-green 17.9-carat Paraiba tourmaline, while the second features an 18.55-carat soft pink morganite reminiscent of the petals of a peony. The third version showcases a 15.65-carat sea blue aquamarine.

PRINCESS THE RAPPER ACQUA NECKLACE
And finally, in the Discoveries in the Darkness chapter, the play of light and dark creates dramatic contrasts in a choker and a pair of long chain earrings. The gourmette chain features asymmetrically alternating links entirely set with a white and black diamond pavé composed of more than 1,400 stones. The matching earrings are set with 960 diamonds.

JEUX DE LA NUIT Y NECKLACE
Rami Kadi presented his Fall/Winter 2022-23 Haute Couture collection with a colourful film showcasing the vibrant designs.
The collection “Le Réveil: A Story of Enduring Life” told the story of building new foundations on top of chaos and ruin; a symbolic subject which could represent the state of Earth today, as well as the situation in Kadi’s home country of Lebanon.

The collection which was unveiled on 13th July 2022 features five key colours; Fuchsia, Blue, Green, Yellow, and Orange, with five dresses in each hue. There is also a selection of black and white dresses to complete the offering of 35 looks in total.

The presentation opened with the reveal of the black and white dresses, representing two opposites that cannot exist without each other.

Then came the burst of colour with each hue representing a unique element: Fuchsia, which defines our Inspirational Uniqueness; Blue, which clutches the heart with Cherished Nostalgia; Green, which allows the tranquillity of Harmonious Growth; Yellow, which embodies the spirit of Powerful Rebirth, and Orange, which offers the warmth of Compassionate Bliss.

“Life is a labyrinth of complexity. As much as we find comfort in duality, nothing about life is black-and-white. It’s a never-ending spew of colour spectacle. And from this spectacle comes our fights, and they are often many,” says Rami Kadi, “but it is those fights that create the most beautiful canvasses.”
