Dubai-based womenswear label Shatha Essa has collaborated with the Malaysian Pavilion at EXPO 2020 Dubai.
The Emirati designer has created a unique art installation that was presented to Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimi, the Emirati Minister of State for International Cooperation and the Managing Director for EXPO 2020.
Inspired by the rich heritage of Malaysia and the UAE Shatha Essa designed and created an art installation that depicts the sand dunes of the UAE enhanced by Malaysian craftsmanship. Expressed through 50 cones, these cones represent the 50 sand dunes of the UAE which are weaved using Malaysian crafts and materials.

An abstract vision portrayed through artistic elements, the cones form different heights and sizes to mirror the different deserts scattered around the country. While the peaks of each cone reflect the wind’s effect on each dune, further enhancing the country’s natural beauty. The edges of each cone are left rough and raw symbolizing the fragile life in the UAE before the discovery of oil.
Each element acts as an ode to the UAE’s journey over the past fifty years. The installation also features a thin gold line on every cone to signify and celebrate the UAE’s golden jubilee.
“I am proud and humbled to be able to collaborate with the Malaysia Pavilion and work alongside remarkable artisans to bring this installation to life. The Shatha Essa brand values in supporting women in their skills and craftsmanship which I was able to fulfil through this opportunity” says Shatha Essa, CEO & Creative Director of Shatha Essa.
Fusing Emirati talent with artisans from Malaysia, the installation is a tangible work of art that embodies the UAE’s quality of bringing different cultures and traditions together.
The art piece will be displayed at the EXPO site in a community art project known as Hammour House. The Hammour House exhibits powerful stories of sustainability in the UAE and around the world through art.

“Malaysia Pavilion is very honoured and happy to be able to collaborate with Shatha Essa to create a symbolic and meaningful work of art commemorating a very special occasion of the UAE. This is an expression of our gratitude to the UAE and our beautiful collaboration also gives us the opportunity to promote Malaysia’s heritage and craft – the pandanus weaving, which is a feature in our Pavilion,” says Michelle Lau, Malaysia Pavilion Director.
Scandinavian home interiors are known for their natural, muted tones, clean lines, and clever ways to keep clutter at a minimum. Sara Alsén, Chief Purpose Officer, Blueair shares her tips and tricks to incorporating Scandi style into your home.
Ask most experts and they’ll tell you that your home should be a safe and calming place that allows you to unwind and make the most of your personal time. In today’s busy and stressful world, it’s especially important to be able to retreat to a place that evokes serenity, clarity and happiness.
Having a home that is organised and clean has been shown to bring a number of benefits, such as greater focus and productivity, according to research from the Princeton University Neuroscience Institute (2011). The research explored the impact of uncluttered and disorganised living and showed that clutter limited the brain’s ability to process information.
While a minimalist approach to both décor and lifestyle has been gaining increasing attention in recent years, it’s not a new concept. In fact, Scandinavian countries have sworn by this approach for decades.
Characterised by functionality, sustainability, neutral tones and clean lines, the Scandinavians have become renowned for their understated and simplistic approach towards design. It’s not surprising, then, that Scandinavian countries are regularly recognized as some of the happiest nations in the world within the UN-backed World Happiness Report.
Here, the experts at award-winning Swedish air purifier brand, Blueair, share their top tips to help you master the art of Scandi design in your own home:

Blueair Blue
Clear out the clutter
Decluttering your space is decluttering your mind, according to the Swedes. To curate a space where you can think more clearly and relax more deeply, pause and think about the household items you actually need or use, and let go of the ones you don’t for a fresh start.
A good rule of thumb is this: if you haven’t seen it or missed it in a while, you can live without it. Rather than going for a stark and overly minimalist look, we suggest you aim for ‘lagom’, a Swedish term that translates to “in-between” or “just right.” With an authentic Scandinavian design, you want not too much, and not too little. To find the right balance, combine statement elements with complementing pieces throughout the room to achieve an ambience that feels serene and peaceful – or, in other words, lagom.
Choose neutral colour schemes and natural materials
Colour schemes and the types of materials you use play an important role in making your home have a relaxing feel. A muted and unifying colour palette of whites, nudes, and greys is key to creating a neutral backdrop that will help you take your minimalist and calm Swedish interior design to the next level.
In addition to painting your walls, you could go a step further and paint the ceilings and floorboards with varying shades, textures, and soft hues of neutral colours for a cohesive aesthetic. Scandinavians typically pair neutral backdrops with hues of brighter colours such as stone white, fossil grey, cool grey, cream or pale blue, for example. The idea behind this is that bright surroundings result in brighter moods, and initially came to life because of the long and gloomy winters in Nordic countries that can feel heavy on the state of mind. While this might not be an issue we face here in the Middle East, the idea still applies and the use of soft & understated colours will also help make the space look more cohesive.
To add further character to the room, natural materials, such as leather, wood, and hemp accompanied with soft lamp lighting will be the cherry on top to create a Scandinavian-inspired atmosphere in your home.
Use your space wisely
Whether you live in a small apartment or have a villa with lots of room, the smart use of a space can make your life more efficient and your home more welcoming.
As a first step, examine your home to check if every inch of space is being used to its full potential. When it comes to the use of furniture in a Scandinavian design, clean lines should be evident. Tables, chairs, sofas, and décor should have a modern touch, featuring smooth and rounded edges.
There is always room to be creative and maximise space – for example, multi-levelled wall shelving storage spaces are innovative and space-savvy whilst adding visual interest to the space. Is there a blank wall in the hallway? Add hooks for bags and coats. Space above a doorway? Why not hang bookshelves. If your home is on the smaller side, get creative with dividers and opt for glass partitions instead of walls. This will visually segment the room and give the illusion of more space.

Blueair
Maintain a fresh and clean ambience
Creating a tranquil home goes beyond home décor and colour schemes; while those are important factors, one of the most significant ways to help you create a fresh and serene space is clean air.
Clean indoor air is vital for good health and wellbeing, however, many people are unaware that indoor air is on average about five times more polluted than outdoor air. Investing in an air purifier with a high CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) in rooms where you spend most of your time, such as the stylish HealthProtect™ air purifier by Blueair, will ensure you are provided with 24/7 protection against dust, smoke, germs, viruses, and bacteria. Award-winning for its design and functionality, its HEPASilent Ultra™ and GermShield™ technology provides clean and healthy air for your home and family. It has also proven to be effective at removing the airborne SARS-CoV-2 virus in independent third-party tests under laboratory conditions*.
Adding plants can also help to remove toxins and connect you to nature while adding a stark contrast and pop of colour to the neutral aesthetic of the room. Invest in green plants – according to the NASA Clean Air Study, English ivy and Peace lily best eliminate indoor air pollutants.
Finally, opt for organic, natural fabrics and textiles in your home furnishings and avoid synthetic fabrics, as they release plastic fibres which can be inhaled.
There are so many ways in which you can incorporate a simplistic, Scandinavian design in the home, all with a host of benefits. Creating minimalist home decor needn’t be a chore, and with small and quick changes, it is easily implemented in order to create the best space for you and your family. Choose what works for your home and budget and you will soon be enjoying the benefits of Scandinavian interior design.
As we approach the new year it’s more important than ever to think about health. Founder of cutting-edge supplement and well-tech brand LYMA, Lucy Goff shares her top wellness predictions for 2022.
Longevity Seekers – health span awareness: Defined as years of life that are healthy and disease free, healthspan will be a focal point for many in 2022. As we continue to live for longer, growing old ‘healthily’ will see an uplift and an increased demand for foundational function medicine that supports longevity with ‘all in one’ formulas. To support our busy lives an increase in subscription services will also continue to have up-take, my wellness brand LYMA offers just this. Since the pandemic, LYMA’s subscribers have grown 900%.
Metabolism Watchers: With new evidence to suggest that metabolic rates don’t decline as early in life as we previously thought, there will be a cultural shift for us to control our metabolism. In 2022, consumers will show more interest in products and lifestyle habits that maintain metabolism through diet and preserving muscle mass, which in turn will continue to support the exponential growth of fitness and health tech market in 2022, where we’ll continue to see an increase in health monitoring apps/devices, fitness content and subscription services all helping you to be your best.

LYMA One Month Starter
Postbiotics: Gut health + the microbiome is the root cause of 99.9% of preventable chronic disease, with more and more evidence building on the importance of gut health and a boom in information of pre and pro-biotics, we will now welcome discussion and people seeking post- biotics through diet for an extra health boost. In essence, they are bioactive compounds that probiotic bacteria produce when they consume prebiotics such as fibre in the gut, the benefits of increasing postbiotic intake can help improve everything from immunity and digestive symptoms and even seeing a reduction in blood sugar, obesity and inflammation.
Scientists on speed dial. With GP surgery access now restricted post-pandemic and face-to-face visits dramatically reduced, people are seeking alternative options, as such we will see a rise in demand for pocket experts, scientists, Dr’s, nutritionists and experts in every field on speed dial, who are able to offer proven solutions for many of the everyday problems we face. LYMA’s concierge is a team of over 30 scientists, doctors, nutritionists and life coaches, all trained to offer the best, proven advice, to help give people an edge in life. Over the past year, LYMA has seen an exponential lift in queries to its concierge, treating over 20,000 people since the start of 2021.
Self-Empowerment – Linked very much to Scientists on speed dial, people are wanting to take control of their health and in measured and detailed ways, which is why we will continue to see a rise of at-home healthcare, from on-demand testing kits for allergies and vitamin deficiencies to smartwatches, sleep trackers and blood sugar monitors, consumers are becoming increasingly aware that prevention is better than cure and are looking for ways to stay afront of their health outlook. However, consumers should be wary as much of this new technology isn’t accurate, especially when it comes to sleep. Recent studies have shown only 38% accuracy in devices determining sleep cycles and time taken to fall asleep. At-home blood tests can also be an inaccurate measure too as there are many parameters that can affect your results, such as time of day samples are taken, and foods eaten prior.
The natural alternative to SSRI’s. The WHO recently announced there are currently 280m people who suffer from depression globally – with so many side effects from traditional medication, we will see an uprise in people looking for natural solutions. The rapid growth of the CBD category is a key indicator in this, marketed to help with a range of ailments namely depression and anxiety, it’s a sector projected to be worth $19.5billion by 2025 according to Forbes. Supplements will also take centre court as brands look at new stand out ingredients that can assist with mood. LYMA, has done just that with a validated saffron extract affron®. Clinically proven to help decrease withdrawal symptoms whilst coming off antidepressants. The results compared with conventional medication are better in many ways that count. Traditional medications can take up to a couple of weeks to work, whereas Affron® works within 2 hours of taking the first dose. The pull for consumers turning to natural ingredients is that traditional medication can have terrible side effects, whereas affron® doesn’t cause any withdrawal effects and so can be a fantastic aid. In fact, there is good evidence that the actives in saffron reduce the adverse effects of the SSRI’s AND ease withdrawal symptoms. A daily dose of 28mg can help aid depression and anxiety, but it’s not an SSRI, in that it doesn’t work the same way as pharmaceuticals. It increases BDNF in the brain, thereby enhancing the growth of new nerves and synapses in the hypothalamus and cortices. There are neurones in the ventral tegmental area of the hypothalamus, which determines resilience, ie. the ability to cope with adversity. The special carotenoids in affron® improve the functioning of these neurons. This natural solution is so effective that it’s forcing scientists to reconsider the whole basis of the current model of depression (the monomine theory), which is now being replaced by the VTA/resilience theory.

The rise of the non-stimulant stimulant. With people more aware than ever as to what they are putting in their body and anxiety on the rise, 2022 will start to see the death of caffeine culture – people will begin to look at other ways to gain focus and energy and not rely on caffeine which can cause spikes of the stress hormone cortisol wreaking havoc with mood, anxiety and sleep. Noo-tropics (Smart drugs or Cognitive enhancers) will replace many a morning cup of coffee in the form of smart supplements – ingredients such as Cognizin (also known as citicoline) a cutting edge noo-tropic provides an increase in focus and attention by increasing the brain’s concentration of dopamine – a similar effect to caffeine but with none of the side effects. Cognizin is one of the 9 key ingredients in the LYMA formula.
Zero Damage beauty – The rise in people having aesthetics from 2020-21 will continue to grow, but people are looking for less invasive procedures that can be maintained without the reliance on a clinic. Until now, the skin renewal industry has been dominated by the stress/damage approach. However, the skin is there to protect, not for us to damage it, and should not be injured for the sake of beauty. Every time we damage our skin, pathogens enter our body and with antibiotic resistance on the rise, this isn’t an ideal route to take. The LYMA Laser has recalibrated the potential of what is achievable outside of a clinic. The only medical grade laser for use at home, delivering technology capable of completely remodelling skin with zero damage to any cell in the process. Zero Damage Beauty will also see the beauty device market become more inclusive, as skincare and cosmetics brands have made big shifts to be more diverse, the aesthetics market has not kept up – with current injury-based laser and micro-needling tool treatments being dangerous for darker skin tones due to risk of scarring. Development of The LYMA Laser is the first laser suitable for darker skin tones and other brands are set to follow suit to widen their audiences. The LYMA laser doesn’t rely on damaging any cell in the process of renewal, there is no risk of scarring, therefore it’s suitable for use on darker skin tones. True inclusive beauty.

Today was incredibly important as we start to build a legacy to benefit the future female leaders of their fields.”

Pantone has revealed its 2022 Pantone Colour of the year and celebrities are already leading the way with this on-trend hue.
This year’s chosen colour Very Peri has been described by Pantone as “a periwinkle shade of blue,” and that the colour marries the “constancy” of traditional blue with the “energy and excitement” of red.
“As we move into a world of unprecedented change, the selection of Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone’s Color Institute.
“Encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time possessing a violet-red undertone, Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression.”

This is the first time Pantone has chosen a colour that wasn’t already in its existing catalogue of shades. Pantone declared that Very Peri is reflective of the current physical and digital landscape and the environment we find ourselves in post-pandemic. The American company cites the rise in the metaverse and the impact of coronavirus lockdowns as key elements that have informed the colour choice.
As the new purple hue begins to define the colour palette for next year, we discover some of the celebrities that are already ahead of the trend and have been embracing purple colour tones on the red carpet.

‘Tis the Season to Reflect, Connect and Imagine”
By Dr. Saliha Afridi, Clinical Psychologist and MD and Founder of The LightHouse Arabia
As one year comes to an end and another begins, it is normal to feel many mixed emotions. As with most endings, we are faced with feelings of sadness, regret, loss, grief and gratitude, and as with new beginnings, we are filled with hope, strength, and optimism. And because endings present difficult emotions, it is easy for people to brush aside 2021 and quickly move forward towards 2022. But I urge you not to move on so quickly. Instead, reflect on 2021; honour the months and the memories, and take away the lessons, so that you can move forward wiser, and more committed to 2022.
Here are a few suggestions on how to do that:

The Tonda PF is the latest timepiece for men and women by Parmigiani Fleurier, combining innovation, style and elegance.
This line of watches is released to mark the brand’s 25th anniversary and is the newest line in the Tonda Collection.
Built around one of the House’s most iconic movements the Tonda PF Features an integrated bracelet, and streamlined aesthetics, these elegant timepieces pay attention to craftsmanship and fine watchmaking as well as innovation and style.
The collection comprises several models for men and women with the star piece being a limited edition, all-platinum, award-winning split-seconds chronograph.
The PPF logo appears at 12 o’clock nestled in a vertical, oval, double-edged appliqué with extensive finishings. The indices of each timepiece are set across two levels of the dial and feature a Grain d’Orge guilloché dial pattern.
Guido Terreni, CEO of Parmigiani Fleurier says of the collection: “We have conceived the Tonda PF for the watchmaking purists of tomorrow. An uncompromising crowd of a select few, seeking personal hedonistic pleasure, who are savvy in watchmaking, appreciate sartorial craft on their timepieces, and have a strong sense of style and refinement.”
Highlights of the collection include:
The Tonda PF Mirco-Rotor

40mm in diameter, the Tonda PF Mirco-Rotor features an understated grey, matte guilloché dial. It introduces a new version of Parmigiani Fleurier’s fundamental movement, the PF703. This ultra-slim, 3mm thick engine is self-winding thanks to a full platinum micro-rotor.
This diminutive oscillating weight is integrated inside the movement’s structure rather than lying on top of it which allows the Tonda PF Micro-Rotor to measure a mere 7.8 mm on the wrist, ensuring comfort and elegance.

In an unusual and exclusive combination, it features hours, minutes and date. The date disc is the same colour as the minute track’s, creating a consistent colourway.
The Tonda PF Chronograph

The 42mm Tonda PF Chronograph features a 5Hz Caliber PF070; an integrated, high frequency, column wheel movement with small seconds and two registers. Integrating three counters on the Tonda PF Chronograph’s thinly guilloché dial demands finesse.

A thinly sandblasted minute track and counter outlines on the discrete blue dial while the pushers have been fused with the profile of the Tonda PF Chronograph’s lugs. This model, along with the Tonda PF Annual Calendar, premieres a new oscillating weight in 22ct rose gold, widely open-worked with a central PF logo medallion.
The Tonda PF Annual Calendar

The 42 mm Tonda PF Annual Calendar continues the aesthetics that are associated with Parmigiani Fleurier’s annual calendar movement. Calibre PF339 presents a retrograde date, day, month and 122-year moonphase as visible in both hemispheres.
By pushing the date outwards onto the minute track and using discretely outlined counters on the warm grey guilloché dial, Parmigiani Fleurier has managed to balance the pared-down equilibrium of the collection’s design language and an elaborate layout.
The Tonda PF Split Seconds Chronograph

At the top of the collection lies an exceptional timepiece. Limited to just 25 units as this watch pays homage to the Maison’s 25th Anniversary and gives prominence to the best craftsmanship available at Parmigiani Fleurier. The case and bracelet of this timepiece are crafted in solid platinum, while its sandblasted finish maintains the matte, finely textured theme of the collection.

Calibre PF361 is a new version of the manufacture’s most high-end calibre, the GPHG-awarded ChronOr. Three characteristics make this movement unique. Its mainplate and bridges are made of solid 18ct rose gold and are extensively open-worked, satin-finished and bevelled, even though the dial is a closed one. This integrated, high-frequency split-seconds chronograph allows optimal timekeeping of two events starting at the same time, down to the 10th of a second.
The collection is now available at Parmigiani Fleurier outlets.

Oscar de la Renta has unveiled a new collection for Pre-Fall 2022.
This elegant yet colourful collection reflects the joyful promise of summer with an understated colour palette and feminine details.

A rainbow of sorbet tones is broken up by a scarf print concept that adorns dresses, shorts and shirts, richly textured in silk twills and embellished with soft, fluid ties.

The bright colours of Fauvism and bold brushstrokes of Impressionism are also on display. Eyelash sequins applied to a white mini dress visually distort the large-scale print and give the illusion of flowers when viewed from a distance.

Vivid hues punctuate just-to-there dresses in garden-fresh shades of wisteria and lilac, honeysuckle and daffodil.

A plaid embroidery found in the House’s archives was originally created by Oscar himself in the 1980s. This pattern now serves as the foundation for a fresh, contemporary application. Each design was handpicked and made into patchwork prints from Gentili Mosconi and applied to dresses, shorts and jackets.

Tailoring is relaxed, with sleek day suits and dresses featuring bold and degradé colours and shorter hemlines, offering up a refreshing twist on the 1990s.

Fabric manipulations are a key surface treatment, marked by an organic shredded-tulle story with a white top and beige gown. A myriad of bias-cut bows adorns a rose-coloured taffeta gown, presenting a wildly spectacular shredded effect.
The collection is now available at stores across the region.
As we enter a new year what better time to expand your horizons when it comes to fragrance? We round up some of the latest perfume launches to discover in 2022.
Henry Jacques

Clic-Clac, the latest launch from Haute Perfumer Henry Jacques takes perfume innovation to the next level with the launch of its first-ever all-solid perfume. Clic-Clac presents 50 of the brand’s most-loved classic fragrances in a new balm-like solid form. The challenge for the team was to revive the traditional solid form of fragrance but preserve the luxury and the strength of the scent in this new presentation. The fragrance collection is housed in a truly unique case available in rose gold, carbon and titanium.

This special object allows for the solid fragrance capsules to be held and interchanged according to your mood. “The creation of this object quickly took us on a lengthy, creative journey, its outcome surpassing all our expectations. Compelling for us, fascinating for others, Clic-Clac is our answer to redefining perfumery and ancient traditions, transporting them into modern-day living, all the while, being playful.” Said Anne-Lise Cremona
Elie Saab

Elie Saab’s new fragrance Lumière captures the sensual sparkle of light. Working with perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, who created the brand’s first fragrance ten years ago, Elie Saab presents an elegant fragrance that features an accord of jasmine blossom, heady carnal notes and the seduction of tuberose. It captures the scents of dawn when light first breaks and the air is still clear. The smell of flowers and fruits, the sparkling scent of mandarins and orange blossom, and the heady floral aura of white jasmine hedges and yellow ylang-ylang.

Francis Kurkdjian, however, went one step further with his floral signature for LE PARFUM, pushing the boundaries of the chypre family to become a modern floral woody chypre. As in all symphonies, the opening is subtle and surprising: nuances of Italian mandarin oil blend with a hint of Madagascan ylang-ylang oil, which unfolds little by little, like the sun’s rays at dawn.
A seductive, compelling bouquet of Indian jasmine sambac absolute and tuberose follows, beating at the heart of the fragrance, tempered by orange blossom with the same delicate weave as fine embroidery dipped in liquid gold. Finally, subtle echoes of musk, amber wood and patchouli heart entwine in a lingering but discreet Eastern trail.
Rasasi

Dubai-based perfumer Rasasi has launched a new fragrance collection. The Tawleefa collection consists of four distinct fragrances. The first to launch are the Dorar and Al Ghalia perfumes which introduce a fusion of fruity and modernised blends with traditional notes to the brand’s offering. This zesty and uplifting collection has been crafted for perfume aficionados looking for a fresh olfactory experience. Highlighting a variety of florals and tangy citruses, this collection is a modern interpretation of traditional mukhallat scents, providing the users with contemporary, but timeless fragrances.
The Tawleefa Dorar opens with a crisp burst of aldehydes encircling a fruity accord of plum, pineapple, and red mandarin from the slopes of the Southern Italian hills, infused with greenstones of galbanum that evoke ancient Persia. The queen of flowers appears with exquisite rose essence intertwined with the bright lily-of-the-valley, exotic Moroccan artemisia, orris roots, Indonesian patchouli, and delicate ylang-ylang. Topping it off is an opulent amber-woody-leathery accord that is encased in enticing notes of tonka, vanilla, musk with a hint of Indian oudh leaving a sensual trail of its wearer.

The Tawleefa Al Ghalia is a modern interpretation of the traditional Mukhallat, this fragrance opens with the notes of Italian bergamot on a background of spicy saffron and smoky accords, followed by the fresh and addictive scent of caramelised rose. Praline interlaces with amber woods at the heart of the fragrance and gradually flows into the musky base with woody undertones, particularly akigalawood for warmth and depth which gives the fragrance a distinct luxurious signature.
Kayali

Kayali’s new Eden Juicy Apple | 01 fragrance is a fruity-floral scent that smells good enough to eat! Combining a tempting cocktail of crisp and juicy red apples, sweet berries, and fresh floral notes it is a daring and addictive perfume. Mona Kattan, Founder of KAYALI, was inspired by the raw emotion of the symbolic apple – the temptation, desire and the pleasure of that first irresistible sweet bite, and wanted to create a flirtatious Eau de Parfum that revolved around this refreshing fruit. After numerous lab trials to find the perfect juice, Mona’s heart lay with the very first submission, and Eden Juicy Apple | 01 was born.

Bursting with flavour, Eden Juicy Apple | 01 is a unique, sweet juicy cocktail of sparkling fruits and addictive florals, blended to create an uplifting scent with a serious attitude. Top notes of Red Apple, succulent Lychee and tart Black Currant leave your mouth watering, irresistible middle notes of Wild Berries, Raspberry Blossoms and Jasmine give bloom to a vibrant heart while Vanilla Flower, Amber and Sensual Musk envelopes around the entire bouquet bringing a touch of sensuality and playfulness to the EDP. Poured into KAYALI’s signature jewel shape glass bottle, but in a tempting translucent ruby red hue, Eden Juicy Apple | 01 is perfectly ripe for picking this holiday season.
Roberto Cavalli

Roberto Cavalli celebrates its 50th anniversary with a precious limited edition of the brand’s iconic Signature and Uomo fragrances. These two intense Eau de parfum’s capture the opulence, exclusivity, and excess of the Italian luxury brand. Dedicated to individuals who never go unnoticed, Roberto Cavalli is defined by flamboyant sensuality, fascinating charisma, and powerful energy that lights up every room. In celebration of the golden anniversary of this iconic fashion house, two richer and even more exquisite interpretations of its Signature and Uomo fragrances are revealed.

The new Signature Eau de Parfum Intense for her is a powerful floral-ambery composition with a warm, opulent and addictive trail. The emblematic orange blossom notes of the original fragrance are joined by a crisp hazelnut accord at the heart of the Golden Anniversary Edition, wrapped in warm benzoin for gourmand indulgence. The bottle is crowned with a golden cap topped with an engraved Roberto Cavalli monogram. An embossed, golden box with an animal-print finish further emphasizes the fierce and fearless identity of the fashion house.

The new Uomo Eau de Parfum Intense for him is a deeply masculine scent with a distinctive and magnetic signature. The signature Uomo accord of intense black violet at the heart of the fragrance is joined by woody gurjun balsam for unforgettable sensuality, while a base of precious tonka bean introduces an exceptional leathery facet to the Golden Anniversary Edition. Uomo is presented in a gold-dipped bottle with a mirrored finish and golden cap, reflecting all the richness of the new edition. A striking cut-out crocodile pattern on the side of the flacon, together with a crocodile-embossed golden box, draws on the animal print codes so integral to the fashion house over the past 50 years.
Paying tribute to five decades of unstoppable, fierce and flawless style, these limited-edition Roberto Cavalli Golden Anniversary fragrances share a simple message for lovers of the brand everywhere: Be bold, be gold, be Cavalli.
Hublot has once again partnered with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami on the second timepiece of their collaboration.
The Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Sapphire Rainbow takes the smiling flower, the iconic theme of the Japanese artist’s work, and transforms it into a whirlwind of transparency and colour on your wrist.

This rainbow-coloured timepiece further exposes Murakami’s artwork to the world of horology with a bold design that highlight’s the brand’s Art of Fusion DNA.
The technicians in Hublot’s workshops have created a unique setting with a transparent background through which the artist’s work and the intricate work of the watchmaker can be revealed. Reusing the characteristic features of the Classic Fusion model, this 45mm-diameter case is cut from sapphire crystal, a technological feat pioneered by Hublot.
The smiling flower presents a mischievous smile on a three-dimensional face that emerges from the watch dial, extending out beyond the sapphire crystal. 12 colourful petals rotate around this face, and their polychromatic effect is achieved by setting 487 stones representing the colours of the rainbow.
Stones used include rubies, pink sapphires, amethysts, blue sapphires, tsavorites, yellow and orange sapphires. Thanks to a unique ball-bearing system specially developed by Hublot’s engineers, the petals start turning under the watch crystal and bring Takashi Murakami’s smiling flower to life.

The Nyon watchmakers have placed the company’s HUB1214 calibre, here without the stopwatch function. This movement has a power reserve of 72 hours.
Targeting Contemporary Art insiders, the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Sapphire Rainbow watch is available in a limited edition of 100 numbered pieces.

It is paired with a white leather strap and can be complemented by a matching pendant made of 18-carat white ethical gold and diamonds. Entirely made in the Manufacture‘s workshops, this calibre is visible through the watch’s transparent case-back.

Thanks to this virtuoso craftsmanship, the dial brilliantly reproduces the purity of a snowy mantle glistening in the rays of the winter sun. It provides a very elegant display of hours, minutes and seconds, complemented by rhodium-plated hands and Roman hour-markers.
Both feature the “dancing diamonds” that are synonymous with this line.
Buthainah Al-Shunnar, the UAE’s first female Plastic Surgeon, discusses her passion for helping women not just physically but mentally as well.
As the first female Emirati plastic surgeon, Dr Buthainah Al-Shunnar opened a whole new world of possibilities for women in the UAE who may have found it difficult to express their wishes to a man. After opening her own clinic Al Shunnar Plastic Surgery in Dubai, Al-Shunnar has made it her mission to remove the taboo surrounding plastic surgery and provide life-changing solutions for women. She specialises in breast cancer reconstruction, helping women who are recovering from the disease to get their bodies and their confidence back. She also has extensive experience in body contouring, aesthetic facial surgery, hand surgery and microsurgery, as well as nonsurgical anti-ageing procedures such as Botox, derma fillers and Platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
After graduating medical college with Honors from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland in 1991, Dr Al Shunnar received her five years of general surgery training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and George Washington University Hospital in Washington D.C., where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honour society. She then completed her Plastic Surgery Training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She then spent three years in York, Pennsylvania as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in private practice, also covering a major trauma centre for its reconstructive needs, learning about the positive impact plastic surgery can have on the mind as well as the body. In 2005 she returned to Dubai and set up her own clinic. Al-Shunnar’s passion is giving back hope and femininity through breast reconstruction procedures for those facing breast cancer as well as body contouring. She has always been at the forefront to adopt new and innovative trends and has published numerous articles in her field. Her work has been presented at national and international plastic surgery conferences. Here, we discover more about her work, her passion and her vision.
Tell us a little about yourself and what inspired you to take the career path you did?
I was born into a family of doctors including my parents so we discussed medical issues from a very young age and ultimately, I felt comfortable in a medical environment. It was natural for me to gravitate towards medicine. In those days plastic surgery wasn’t a popular field but it was where my true passion was. For me, it is a field that incorporates art and science. I love to see the aesthetic transformations impact lives and I find this both inspiring and fascinating.

We are truly inspired by your story to help women who have had breast cancer – can you tell us a little about this and why this is a subject so dear to your heart?
Plastic surgery can be life-changing especially when dealing with what is considered the essence of womanhood. There was no real incident or story that directed me to this but I can say that I am always touched to be a part of the journey that women with breast cancer take and privileged to help with their recovery and self-confidence.
How do you think what you are doing is helping to remove the stigma surrounding breast cancer in the region and the UAE specifically?
Knowing there is a choice to wake up from surgery with a new breast after the affected breast was removed alleviates a lot of anxieties and somehow introduces a positive spin. I believe awareness is key and am so proud of women nowadays sharing their stories on social media and creating WhatsApp groups where they can share their experiences and feel that they are not alone. One of my patients said, “breast cancer does not define me”. And another quoted: “I was sick but I am not sick anymore and am looking forward to the years to come”. I find these statements so powerful and empowering. These women empower each other!
Tell us about your approach to Plastic Surgery in general and the benefits that it can have?
Where do I start?! I view plastic surgery very differently. I view it as a tool to enhance lives and sometimes less is more. Plastic surgery is a double-edged sword. It is important to know each patient wants and to manage their expectations. It is an intricate web of art, science and psychology. The benefits can be physical such as alleviating shoulder and back pain after breast reduction to aesthetic as we all know and ultimately psychological, where it can truly be life-changing and enhance one’s life, relationships and outlook.
Can you tell us a little about the psychological aspect of surgery? What are some of the changes you see in your patients on a confidence level?
Honestly, reframing perspectives is very important. That is why we chose it to be our brand essence. When someone feels good about themselves, it makes a world of difference in their confidence and self-esteem level. I see great changes not only physically but psychologically in almost all my patients.
Can you share any new techniques and technologies that you are particularly excited about.?
There has been an explosion of technology recently and technology is an ever-evolving and remarkable tool. But in the end what counts are the surgeons’ hands, eyes, skills and experience.
You were the first female Emirati Plastic Surgeon – what does it mean to you to be a woman working in this field?
Honestly, when it comes to work I never really looked at myself as a woman or otherwise… but more as a surgeon. My mother was the first Emirati female gynaecologist and she is my role model. She truly worked from her heart and dedicated her life to the women here in the UAE. In her career, she did over 18,000 newborn deliveries. I am so proud of her achievements and dedication to her profession. She had a vocation and a purpose; it wasn’t only her job.
In the UAE, being a woman has brought me many blessings as I find women are more comfortable discussing their issues with a female surgeon and opening up to their vulnerabilities and their dreams. I am a surgeon but also a mother and homemaker so the true challenge is this balance. I hope someday I can inspire my children as my parents inspired me.

What were some of the challenges you faced along the way and how did you overcome them?
I was blessed to be brought up in Dubai. We were very protected. So, leaving to go to medical school at the age of 17 was truly a culture shock. The bigger shock was going to the US after medical school for my surgical residency as Johns Hopkins training was very rigorous and tough. It was also very character building. It taught me perseverance and grit. Working in a male-dominated field, somehow one had to prove oneself, that was my test. In 2005 I set up my clinic and this was a very steep learning curve as being an entrepreneur requires a very different skill set to being a doctor. I am still learning and evolving.
What is something you would like to achieve that you haven’t yet?
Art. Painting. Self-discovery is a fascinating journey. I am not sure one ever achieves this fully and it is a constant work in progress. Let’s see where life takes me.
What is the message that you are trying to share about plastic surgery in the region?
Plastic Surgery is a tool that should be used wisely. The risks and benefits in everything we do are always weighed. Be careful when following trends especially extreme trends as they change with time and ultimately, it is important to be you.
This month we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the UAE, what does this occasion mean to you?
You know, it is phenomenal to have seen this country blossom and transform. I feel humbled and proud to be a daughter of the UAE. To me, this year highlights growth, tolerance and love.
What is a message that you would send to your country on this occasion?
Thank you, always grateful and always humbled.
What is the fondest memory of the UAE from your childhood?
I remember when Dubai World Trade Center (the first skyscraper) was built and how excited we all were, you could see it from everywhere in Dubai and if one was ever lost we just drove towards it. Life was simple!
How will you be celebrating the 50th anniversary?
With my family and parents celebrating at home and remembering the last 50 years.
What do you think the UAE has that no other country possesses?
The UAE is forward-thinking while maintaining its culture and a mindset of infinite possibilities. This is exhilarating and one cannot but be pulled into its magic. I find beauty everywhere and I love the fact that it embraces people from all ethnic backgrounds like its own! The UAE’s leadership believes in equality and forward-thinking which has and will lead us towards the next remarkable 50 years, Inshalla!
Where would you like to see the UAE in another 50 years?
I would like to see it continue to grow and transform yet still stay true to its culture. Being pioneers in fields that matter to humanity because we have so much potential and endless possibilities to explore especially in finding sustainable solutions to preserve and protect our Earth.
