With the change in season comes the desire to update your décor. Here, Owner and Founding Managing Director of Cities Design & Lifestyle Store, Hazem Aljesr has identified the top interior trends of the moment and offers design suggestions to create these up-to-date looks in your own home. So, get ready to step into spring and slide into summer with these inspiring interior trends that are sure to create a fresh and inviting space!
White
The power of color is never more evident than when adding a simple shade of white to a space. Fresh, pure, clean and simple: the color white makes a statement in any interior. Depending on how it’s used, white can provide a sense of renewal, add energy, or offer elegance. The white chairs from POLaRT embody this effect; with their classic design shape, patterned after Victorian era furniture, the stark white shade of the chairs adds a sense of modernity and style, making them a perfect addition to a range of interiors. In comparison, the white shade used in the tree trunk table from Hawini offers a sense of romance, which is enhanced by the design, further showing the versatility of this vital color.
Wood
You can never go wrong with wood. To make this essential accent feel fresh, combine it with metal or glass, or add unexpected elements of this versatile material. The WAaf lamp from Structures uses wood in an innovative fashion; the lamp is designed to resemble man’s best friend, and it features moveable wooden joints and an aluminum lamp head, making it a whimsical and useful creation, and just the right touch of fun for your space. Another stunning creation comes from Flyte. Their levitating light functions using magnets, resulting in a bulb that hovers and spins above its wooden charging base. Both of these creations are innovative combinations of natural wooden beauty and modern technology and design, perfectly highlighting the most up-to-date way to incorporate wood in your space.
Surreal
Share intrigue and create interest with surreal accent pieces. A great way to add color and depth, surreal décor items hint at an element of dreaminess or fantasy and offer contrast to the simple beauty and clean appearance of a modern interior. The Backglass artwork of French creator Jean-Louis Audibert, which combines his detailed ink creations with vintage back glass taken from arcade machines, is an easy way to add art with a surreal aspect to a space, while a bolder statement could be made with the oversized apple sculptures from Bull & Stein. If you prefer an accent with overtones of elegance, then try vases from SDA. Each vase is made of mouth-blown glass which is poured onto a teak wood base. The resulting creation looks as if the glass has melted onto the wood, offering a surreal and dreamlike, yet sophisticated effect.
Geometric
Geometric-styled patterns are bold and versatile accents which add interest, color and depth to a space and this look can easily be achieved through the use of throw pillows and rugs. However, the latest incarnation of this timeless trend presents itself in the structure of items rather than through material patterns. The Pylon coat stand from Tom Dixon takes its inspiration from the structural forms of bridges and towers. Its angular, spare design makes it a perfect accent item as it combines function with understated style. Other examples can be found in smaller, useful design items such as the Rhizomes accessories from Khaled El Mays; his patterned wooden candle holders and tissue boxes share the same geometric style using natural mediums, making them an elegant and intriguing addition. For bolder choices, furniture creations from Georges Amatoury combine modern materials and strong angles to result in contemporary designs that can partner with a number of décor styles to create an eclectic yet inviting interior.
These top spring and summer trends can easily be showcased through the use of accent items in new styles. Adding small creations and incorporating subtle changes is an effortless way to update your décor and share the latest in style. We hope you enjoy these trends and celebrate the new season with a new look for your interior!

Kastella is proud to announce the launch of the C401 stool, the first in the collection by the Montreal-based manufacturer and distributor of premium wood furniture.
The concept underlying the C401 is the product of ten years of research and development invested by this innovative firm. The result is a highly elegant stool that seems to be made of a single piece of wood. Its simple geometry brings to mind the clean sensual lines of Danish design, making this a landmark piece for the contemporary kitchen. The nearly semi-spherical shape of the seat and the seamless transition with the legs assure an even weight distribution and solid construction. The machined brass footrest guarantees the comfort and balance essential to a bar stool. The C401 emphasizes the unique character of solid wood. Every detail has been carefully thought out by the designers to blend form and function, but, most of all, to please the user.
Sustainable production
Kastella’s philosophy is grounded in sustainable development principles. High-quality manufacturing and a timeless, minimalist style ensure that the firm’s collections boast exceptional physical and aesthetic durability. Rejecting the logic of consumerism, Kastella’s products are truly built to last.
In order to minimize the environmental impact of wood harvest and transportation, the company sources its raw materials from FSC forests in nearby regions, specifically the American Northeast and Midwest as well as Canada. Consistent with that approach, all items are manufactured in Montreal. The company’s various suppliers (hardware, upholstery, finishing, etc.) are also local.
About Kastella
Kastella was founded by Jason Burhop, a man with a passion for excellent design and craftsmanship. He was strongly influenced by his father, whose European roots sparked Jason’s interest in refined furniture and helped him develop an affinity for well-designed objects. After earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, he decided to take a new path and follow his passion.
In 1999, Burhop took over a friend’s workshop, where he spent long hours honing his skills and creating his first collection. Quebec’s furniture industry was changing quickly at the time, with many companies going out of business or sending their production offshore. In 2001, as a self-taught furniture maker, Burhop seized an opportunity: not to produce his goods elsewhere, but to make his creations in Montreal. Two years later, Burhop opened a retail space with his first collection of solid-wood contemporary furniture.
Today, Kastella employs dedicated craftspeople who share his passion for creating beautiful, functional and timeless furniture.

Florence: wordly wise, full of vitality, a symbol of culture and good taste. A city as old as the hills, yet never behind the times, never trivial, never predictable. Arketipo is Florence. It embodies its spirit. It identifies with an outlook that sees beyond the dictates of today, reinventing itself constantly. Subtlety, curiosity and detailed research combine with Florentine tradition, experience and savoir-faire, to produce a modern style that fits in both with the present and the past – brilliant, vivacious, rich and irreverent. In other words, Arketipo firenze’s style.

Egadi
Design Gordon Guillaumier
A sofa with a dual identity, when the back cushions are opened up, by simply unfolding them upwards, there is a surprise effect: the seat becomes deeper and the back – with individual cushions for each seat – becomes higher. This transformation also reveals a contrasting inside cover on the cushions, made of leather or fabric with a soft, creased effect, for maximum comfort. The sofa therefore takes on a completely different appearance, revealing Arketipo’s great technical skill in the refined manufacture of its covers, always removable.

Calma
Design Gordon Guillaumier
A geometrical and minimal line outlines this sober and elegant chair. The metal structure and the seat in leather make it a luxurious yet discreet piece, suitable for every surrounding.

Ego
Design Manzoni – Tapinassi
I like to feel wrapped in the soft embrace of comforting and familiar outlines. My sofa is Ego, a mixture of shapes, materials and colors from a pop era that is still very relevant.

Isola
Design Gordon Guillaumier
Set of tables and consoles, which can serve front or sides for a couch and even as a couch back, creating multiple solutions. The base is in varnished metal; the tops are available either in tempered smoked glass or in water and oil repellent sandstone.

Target
Design Nendo
A simple and elegant bookcase: the MDF structure is composed of small crosses that form the supports for the books. These crosses seem to multiply infinitely and when books are placed on them, they change from being distinct signs into a blurred but regular whole.

Moving
Design Carlo Bimbi
The innovative characteristic of this upholstery system is the mechanism that enables to change the position of the seat cushions. Therefore, the cushion can be adjusted into a series of positions that make it suitable for use as an arm-rest or a back-rest for reclined positions. The various elements composing the system, sofas, chaise-longues, lateral and corner units and poufs, guarantee a wide range of original compositions and the cushion flexibility enhances the product informal ease-of-use and versatility. The quality of padding materials ensures a high level of comfort, enhanced by an height-adjustable headrest.

Fly
Design Manzoni – Tapinassi
High-backed armchair with swivel base and a slender line which offers an elevated degree of comfort, ideal for relaxation. The frame padding is made of cold expanded polyurethane.

Marea
Design Gordon Guillaumier
A collection allowing a wide range of different compositions, for maximum adaptability. The small tables and the Isola cabinets, available in glass or stone, can be used to create compositions that are both attractive and functional.

Armonia
Design Gordon Guillaumier
Set of overlapping service tables matching the upholstery items, to create new and pleasant living solutions.

Garden
Design Gino Carollo
Modern and intelligent set of shelves that can be used close to a wall or as partition in the middle of a room. It perfectly suites classic and modern styles and work environments. The shelves are enriched by borders, red or grey varnished.

Kono
Design Carlo Bimbi
The harmony of curved lines designs a cosy and comfortable armchair. The swivel base is varnished in aluminium color and the frame padding in cold expanded polyurethane. On request, stitching and zips can be done in a contrast color.

Loft
Design Adriano Piazzesi
As a registered model, Loft is an extremely innovative seating system, which offers a superior degree of comfort and enables the entire sofa concept to be experienced in an extremely personal manner. By means of a simple movement, the mechanism permits two different seat depths: 75 cm for a traditional use and a more upright posture (120 cm) to obtain a chaise-longue. Another mechanism permits to adjust the back from horizontal to vertical, through a number of middle positions. In this way Loft becomes more than a sofa, it turns into a real open space, a multipurpose platform for relaxation.
The Apulian company grows, innovates and renews itself: innovation has always been one of the distinguishing features of the brand; it is part of its DNA and is seen at its best in this year’s “iconic” product, the Re-Vive armchair. Re-Vive is the world’s first and only recliner capable of adapting to the body and reacting intuitively and fluidly to even the most imperceptible movements, guaranteeing unprecedented comfort and an extraordinary ability to blend design and function to create harmonious living in any home.
The Re-vive Armchair also embodies another of Natuzzi’s favourite concepts, the “Harmony Maker”: Re-vive creates a general sense of harmony, a feeling of complete well being and comfort. In a world of turmoil where noise and clamour reign, Re-vive allows you to completely disconnect, to just stop, contemplate and enjoy your free time while you recharge.
The Harmony that distinguishes all the Natuzzi total living range draws its inspiration from home territory: Apulia, a southern Italy region. This land, with which the company maintains strong and vital links, is essential for understanding the essence that has always animated and identified the brand. The welcoming spirit that characterises Apulia, now a chic and estimated international travel destination, has always been the outstanding feature of this company. It is the distinctive element of its identity. The relationship between Apulia and this brand is continuous: the spirit of the company’s homeland, felt in its warm and discreet hospitality, pervades customers’ homes naturally, bringing authentic and refined beauty to living spaces. Materials and colours are imbued with symbolic value and create on-going connections.
A land that expresses the essence of Natuzzi, refined in all its facets during the course of a long and meticulous brand identity campaign. This involved the creation of an alphabet of visual codes, distinguishing the brand that will be introduced during this Event. The reminders of natural landscapes and tradition are everywhere, combining and harmonising with High End Design and Innovation, which has always been emblematic of this brand.
Since its beginning in 1959, this Italian company, the leading and most well-known furniture brand globally among luxury consumers – according to research by Ipsos Lagardère in 2013 – has symbolised innovation and style, focusing its attention on achieving the best stylistic solutions, as well as comfort and harmony. A recognisable and unmistakable stylistic element found throughout the history of the company and in the products that will be presented at the Fair: the “Harmony Maker” concept, present in a wide range of products, is mindful of today’s increasingly diversified homemaking requirements. It puts the consumer’s need for spatial and environmental harmony at the centre of each product. Harmony is therefore the main theme of the Natuzzi collection, perfectly in line with the group’s mission, which is to create harmonious living spaces for its clients. The colours, fabrics, sofas, armchairs, beds, dining room tables and furniture accessories combine to create complete looks allied with sensible solutions, helping us to live better but also meeting the standards of even the most refined tastes. Design and function are combined to obtain maximum functionality. The new models are light and elegant, comfortable and beautiful. A visually pleasant quality also found in the variety of intentionally neutral colours of the whole new collection. A selection resulting from our desire to recreate a habitat with a unique and refined style whose beauty is mellow and laid-back and whose strength is in its equilibrium. The colour combinations are chosen to induce relaxation, while small lively touches emerge from the accents, achieved by bright colour details.
There are three basic colours: red Marsala, powder blue and grey-green. Chocolate brown, dark brown, camel and taupe also play important roles.
Leather coverings continue to be synonymous with Natuzzi quality and craftsmanship, having been standard bearers for the company’s manufacturing quality for over 50 years. But in this field there is no lack in new high level proposals. Take the Cuero for instance, the main innovation of the 2015 Furniture Fair: a completely new, highly innovative cover that goes beyond the traditional concept of leather or fabric. Similar to chamois, it is resistant yet soft, heralding a revolution in the world of sofa covers.
The range of fabrics is also enriched, they all go through a particular treatment that gives them a delightful softness and fluffiness.
The new Natuzzi Italy 2016 collection appearing at the Fair contains the full range of products for living room and day and night zones, as well as the new Re-Vive Wing Back Armchair. At the top level there are high quality products such as the Long Beach sofa, designed by Claudio Bellini. Long Beach is a decidedly modern sofa with soft shapes and is introduced for the first time in Milan in the sectional version, with corner and wooden accessories (coffee table and low bookcase), completely integrated with the sofa.
Iago sofa, features squared and linear shapes that harmonize with the sinuosity of the soft padding for an amazing aesthetic result. And Philo sofa, with its unmistakable style, refined quilting and specially-shaped metal feet that give it a modern and elegant aspect are two other excellent products that can be discovered in these days in Milan.
Svevo and Holly sofas, created in collaboration with the excellent Studio Memo, perfectly blend the contemporary and the timeless. And finally Aplomb, developed directly by the Natuzzi Style Centre is a unique piece, a sofa endowed with casual style and elegance. The perfect choice to dignify informal living rooms or add a bit of flair to more sober rooms.
There is also space for the night zone, with a new bed being presented at the Fair: Fenice, created by the pencil of designers Bernhardt and Vella. This is the star of the night zone, distinguished by its generous headboard, luxuriously soft pillows, and the geometrical detail of the join between the head and the frame.
Regarding new offerings in the living area, the leading product is the wall unit Kubika, inspired by modern art and innovative architecture. Kubika main features are the great mix of materials and its infinite possible configurations, making this piece of furniture ideal for both wide and small spaces
But in this edition visitor’s eyes will be focused above all on the dining room area that will play a key role in the course of the Event; Natuzzi has found its link with Expo through the day line and the promotion of food as a currency for personal well-being and harmony with surroundings. The new Accademia table and the Sonata chair will be introduced with the same line, but the great news is represented by the table accessories – runners, plates, glasses and cutlery – boasting refined design and Mediterranean style. The plates were designed by Bottega Dal Monaco, a long-time ambassador for the excellent craftsmanship of Grottaglie ceramics. This famous Apulian centre is known for its ceramics all over the world. Natuzzi has thought of everything, now you can sit down and enjoy.

The real estate industry is a budding one in the city of Dubai, and with all its ups and downs it seems that regional and international investment interest hasn’t simmered down. Although the year 2014 saw a soaring increase in property prices, villa community living with its privacy and comfort, remains a luxury many families are willing to invest in. It is easy to get lost in the multitude of factors that must be highlighted when purchasing a villa, which is why one of UAE’s premier property developers, Indigo Properties, wants to make this process much easier by outlining 10 important features to consider when buying a villa in Dubai.
Location and Neighborhood
Location is key, as it is an element that will always remain constant. Consider the proximity of public transportation such as the Dubai Metro. You can always check if there’s a Tram station nearby as well as nurseries and schools. If you’re a newly married couple, you should also do the same, as a home is permanent and long-term factors should be taken into consideration. Locate the closest supermarket, pharmacy, clinic, shopping center, petrol station and all other amenities that you will require. Ideally a villa community should have its own retail centre with a large spectrum of outlets. Self-contained living communities make for an ideal family home. If it’s an off-plan development, the reputation of the developer, property prices and the quality of construction should give you a considerable idea.
Credentials of developer
Here are some questions to consider when choosing a developer: What is the quality of the developers’ previous projects? Do they deliver excellence? Do they meet or surpass what they have promised? Based on personal or friends’ past experiences, are they trustworthy? What is their track record for after-sale care and maintenance? A genuine property developer won’t just sell you a property and end the relationship there; they’ll cater to your needs and ensure that your decision is best for you. Do some first-hand research by attaining referrals for passionate, sincere developers with quality projects.
Quality of property/construction
What sets apart a genuine property-developer from others is the quality of the property offered. While some properties come as shell and core units, others, for the same price per square foot, offer wall fittings, marble flooring, state-of-the-art kitchen appliances, smart home systems and more, with the developers absorbing extra costs for your benefit. These developers work with the very best partners at every stage, from engineers to architects, from master developers to contractors, ensuring the best quality of design and construction reducing any potential problems that may exist such as structural issues and damage. A high quality, well-structured property will surely prevent you from facing major expenses.
Size
When looking for a house, most people do not factor in changing demands. You might be a young couple and hence you need little space, however, in a few years you might have a couple of little ones to take care of, relatives visiting often or parents living with you. Factor these possibilities in and look for a place with a minimum of three or four bedrooms. Always look for a property with all ensuite bedrooms. Large, spacious townhouses or villas contribute to a more comfortable living. Enormous windows allowing bright sunlight to flood in would accentuate the spaciousness of the rooms.
View
It would be hard to enjoy your morning coffee on a weekend, gazing through the window at power lines or at the fish market. Imagine instead looking out at a fresh stream of flowing water while listening to birds chirping perched on nearby trees. Imagine gazing out your window at the twinkling lights and magnificent skyline of this remarkably beautiful city as you savor your candlelit dinner. Although the view may not seem as most important, a view of water and greenery adds some sparks and wonder to one’s daily routine and melts the stress away.
Service charges
Recurring monthly or yearly costs must be taken into consideration, including electricity and service charges. Keep in mind that certain reoccurring expenses will take place post-purchase for maintaining the community. Set some cash aside for these minor expenses. Contrary to popular belief, villas’ service charges are usually much lower on a per square foot basis than apartments.
Maintenance standards
When contemplating buying the right house, ensure that the villa complex uses a reputable maintenance agency. Imagine how tedious it would be trying to find a suitable maintenance person to come fix a faucet that decided to burst at 5am. Find out about their availability and cleaning services provided; how often and well are community areas cleaned? More importantly, ensure that your safety is a priority – find out if smart home technology is offered in villas and townhouses, and what security systems are in place in apartment buildings. How much is being done to keep your community living safe and clean?
Amenities Available
Is the community self-contained? Does the building offer basic amenities? Having to drive 20 minutes to go to the gym each day would be quite a demotivating factor. How much easier would it be if all gym facilities, perhaps even group classes and personal trainers, were available just a street away? Get a thorough understanding of all amenities available. Is it a safely guarded gated community for children to play in? Are children’s playgrounds available? Is there a shared gym and swimming pool? These are just some amenities to consider, your list of desired amenities depends on what factors are important to you.
Garden Space
If you have young kids, you do not want them cooped up in a room. Lush landscaping or garden spaces allow children to run about in the fresh air and be close to nature. As for you, what is a better way to spend a weekend than to be lazing in the tranquility of your garden, reading a good book?
Re-sale value
While moving homes is a lifestyle change and usually more permanent, you may make different decisions in the future such as taking on a new job in another country or shifting elsewhere – a home with more bedrooms, a newer location. You may not wish to keep your property due to requiring finances to make the change, so upon purchase of a property it is helpful to consider what the re-sale value would be after a specific time period. Considering these factors will bring about some clarity, making you more confident with your ultimate purchase decision.
The above tips were offered by Indigo Properties, a Dubai based
real estate developer that excels in villas communities.

Contemplating the Seas
From peaceful shores to the open sea, from foaming breakers to crystalline expanses, Van Cleef & Arpels has let its gaze drift to the far horizon. The ever-changing spectacle of the waves and the grace of the sea’s denizens have captivated its senses to inspire a new collection of High Jewelry: Seven Seas®.
Like a travel memoir, it brings together treasures and impressions, transposed into jewelry by the language of gems. In a cascade of blues, the distinctive sparkles of
the Adriatic and the Mediterranean stand alongside those of the Caspian and Arabian Seas. The far reaches of the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean have inspired streams of light, while dazzling associations of materials evoke the Red and Black Seas. During this contemplative voyage, the Maison explores the sea’s multiple shades: from gradations
of turquoise and emerald green to sparkling sunlight in the heat of the afternoon or moonbeams glittering on its mirrored waters.
Across the seven seas
Nature, which has always occupied a central place in the world of Van Cleef & Arpels, is represented in all its richness and diversity. The theme of the sea-fascinating for its flora and fauna as much as for the legends attached to it-has provided the Maison with an infinite source of inspiration for its High Jewelry creations. Today, the Seven Seas collection pays tribute to this universe with a vision that is both cultural and dreamlike. It invites us to embark on a dual voyage: across the world and to the origins of the expression “the seven seas”. Dating from ancient times, it was used in medieval European literature to refer to a specific set of waters, known to sailors of the time. Its meaning shifted in the wake of great discoveries, until it came to evoke all the world’s oceans, like a vast expanse to be explored. Chosen by Rudyard Kipling as the title for his collection of poems The Seven Seas (1896), the words now echo like a call to escape and discovery, a metaphor for that Elsewhere that so fully corresponds to the boundless imagination of Van Cleef & Arpels.
The undulation of gems
Drifting with the currents, the Maison has steeped itself in the sea’s varied faces. Limpid, shimmering or profound, punctuated by spurting foam or the gentle lapping of the waves, it has lent itself to exquisitely fluid and nuanced interpretations. The constant movement of the waters has inspired diamond volutes, glittering spirals and braids of precious bubbles. Magnified by a play of ever-changing lights, the aquatic palette is brought to life by a selection of Pierres de Caractère™, exceptional gems that elicit a unique emotion. Together with historic sapphires and crystalline emeralds, turquoises, aquamarines and Paraíba-like tourmalines evoke gentle shores. The seabed teems with rubies, coral and red spinels, while evening brings a backwash of cultured pearls and onyx. Harmonious gradations of blues, pinks or oranges are carefully composed to recreate the richness of these inviting worlds.
They are inhabited by extraordinary creatures: turtles and seahorses, alongside mermaids and princesses of the waves that renew the tradition of feminine figures. Adorned with the Mystery Set™, a flamboyant seashell opens to reveal the treasure within. The guardian of a virtuoso savoir-faire, it symbolizes the taste for rarity and beauty that inspires the Maison each and every day.

I advise every couple to attend premarital counseling sessions before getting married and even think that it should be required by law. Couples tend to think that once they are married or have children, the responsibility of a family will outweigh any other conflicts that lurk around. Unfortunately, once they have passed the honeymoon phase, and the wedding excitement has worn off, the real life of a couple begins rather than the Hollywood fantasy that usually wears off after several years. The so-called “Honeymoon phase” could last anything between 3, 6, or 12 months, which is usually the time when each person puts their best foot forward and keep the rest nicely hidden behind a façade of subjective perfection. Usually the problems start to kick in between 2 to 5 years into a marriage and sometimes people will suppress it or shun it off as something unimportant. After 7 to 9 years, suppressed feelings may begin to surface and this is when couples usually decide to come see a counselor.
Effective communication is key
The number one reason why strong disagreement and unhappiness arises in a couple, is the lack of proper communication. This also entails a lack of validation, or feeling understood, respected and having one’s emotions and thoughts acknowledged by the significant other. Pride and ego are two elements that lead to miscommunication, or the lack thereof. In the Arab culture particularly, this is very common when the woman works or one of the two comes from a family of high stature. “Why should I be the one compromising?” one asks. It’s not about one party compromising more than the other leading to the feeling of being taken for granted, it’s about two people in a couple letting go and putting the relationship before their ego. In relationships in general, the headline is effective communication.
Effective communication does not depend on location, it depends on your personality and what you’re willing to do and say. It could be a long distance or face to face relationship and still allow things to get lost in translation. After the honeymoon phase, you start to pick up the idiosyncrasies, or the peculiar traits and behaviors that are unique to them, and depending on how well you both communicate, you will either keep it in and go with it, or you’ll learn to adjust and move forward. Even if you have the illusion that you are completely similar to, or compliment your significant other in terms of your mindset, values and beliefs, you’re still two different human beings. The fact that you are two different genders, that makes you different human beings. When you put people with different upbringings with different lifestyles into one household, things can get very messy so waiting for things to get better later, causes more chaos. It could be something as simple as who does the cleaning and who does the cooking, versus something more complicated like how to raise your kids.
The rules of dating are different in the Gulf States, and for many in may seem “conservative.” The dating process here happens when a couple is officially “engaged” to be married. This period is seen as a time where two people are more committed to “making it work.” There’s a little more pressure since the families are also involved or aware, and research shows that arranged marriages have been more successful than so-called “Love marriages.” Most of the time the latter entails an unrealistic fantasy, a Hollywood idea of love where everything is supposed to be perfect and predictable.
Evaluation and acknowledgment
You have to be evaluated based on what you do in your marriage. When we’re kids, we get rewarded by our parents for doing things the right way. In school and during our higher studies, we go through the same reward process. Even when we enter the professional world, we get evaluated on a regular basis. In a marriage, it should be the same. You need to ask yourselves the following questions: “What am I doing that’s helping this relationship?” and ask your partner “what would you like me to do more of?” You have to be open to constructive feedback, as long as it is also expressed in a progressive manner. The more you evaluate your relationship, the more you learn how to better it.
Managing differences
There’s an underlying fear amongst people that if they are not perfect in the relationship, their significant other is going to walk away from them. There’s no such thing as a perfect relationship, but there is such a thing as an affective relationship. What you must strive for, is an affective relationship, with open and honest communication. In this circle, everything should be shared so that he or she does not need to look elsewhere. When communication is broken down, whether emotionally or physically and it is not talked about, some people will resort to searching for fulfillment outside the boundaries of the relationship. You must acknowledge that your partner has a different thought process and belief system, without necessarily agreeing with it. If there has to be a decision made, then there has to be a level of compromise, and a middle ground must be found. It’s nice to joke about the small differences, because sense of humor is very important in order to defuse the situation and minimize the effect of defensiveness.
True love and commitment
When we think of relationships in general we have to think of them from two different sides, we have to think of the love side and the commitment side. Under the love side, we have to start with trust and respect, once we have a good amount of those two elements then we get to vulnerability, if you feel like you can be emotionally vulnerable, physically vulnerable and all other types of vulnerable with that person without them throwing things in your face, that’s when you can start moving to the next stage which consists of intimacy and friendship. Considering all these factors, that’s when you know true love exists in the relationship. The other side of the relationship is commitment. Here is where you start to share different things such as values, morals, customs, ethics and traditions. Both the commitment and the love side together is what makes an affective relationship.
One team: Supporting one another
When it comes to external family interference, you have to maintain the idea that the relationship between you and your partner is the initial relationship. The support must be in that circle before it’s anywhere else, the support for one another should always be there even if there is no agreement. It’s always advised not to discuss or share different views on a topic that is being disagreed on by the in-laws for example. Maintaining a united front is very important. If you’re going to talk to your family about something that has to do with your marriage, make sure you have discussed it with your spouse first.
The most important points to discuss before marriage
Everybody should go through pre-marital counseling before getting married because it’s important to see those things early on. The goal is not to determine if it’s the right person for you, but to solve communication problems and other conflicts so that you don’t have to deal with them later on. Topics like child rearing and the level of involvement of the families including in-laws and siblings, should be discussed beforehand. The idea of one person not appreciating the money being worked for and spending without consideration and concern, is another important topic related to finances. The flipside to this, is being too concerned about finance to the point where the working spouse is not giving their time and energy to the family. The fact of the matter is that you are two different genders, which is complicated enough because women and men process information differently, feel information differently and speak about information differently. Then you have the many different things such as family, social and cultural exposure, which are going to affect the way you behave after marriage. A relationship has to be worked on, and worked on well. In order to do this effectively, you must listen, acknowledge, validate and communicate.

The fairy-tale setting of Rocco Forte Villa Kennedy includes locations for weddings of any size or date in the year, with both outdoor and indoor venues; the romantic inner courtyard is a favourite, or the uniquely Mediterranean atmosphere of the 326 m2 Konrad Adenauer ballroom (up to 200 guests) has huge folding doors to the inner courtyard and Italian wall paintings.
Villa Kennedy provides a very extensive, in-house catering consisting of seasonal, traditional Italian dishes with international influence, and guests can choose from a variety of puristic food selection – each matched to the respective wedding.

What distinguishes the makeup of guests from the makeup of the bride?
The bridal makeup is all about light & radiance for the complexion but the invitee’s makeup could be daring ,edgy & glittery .I recommend to use Le Teint Encre De Peau foundation from YSL to give the long lasting effect .For eye makeup they can use Mascara Volume effet faux cils to maximize their lashes.
What are the colours that wedding guests should stay away from In order to avoid looking similar to the bride?
Because Colour belongs to YSL I recommend to dare & use the eye shadow Palette Couture Tuxedo from YSL it is all about black & grey. Don’t use the shade of lip liner darker than the lipstick I recommend to use ROUGE PUR COUTURE #210 the matt for a nude shade of lipstick.
What is this season’s makeup trend?
Yves Saint Laurent woman could wear very natural makeup in the day time & transform for a daring & dramatique makeup at night. I highly suggest to use the Touche éclat from YSL to illuminate the light in your skin & Use Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Levres for you lip to get the long lasting effect of lip colour because this product is lipstick, stain & gloss 3 in 1 so it’s a must have product specially at summer.
What are some of the mistakes that wedding guests tend to make?
In my point of view I think they used a lot of heavy foundation on their complexion by doing the contouring techniques in a wrong way. I recommend to start with Touche éclat Blur as a primer before their foundation to have the even skin in texture & radiant complexion then to diffuse the light use Le Teint Touche Eclat to illuminate the light use Touche Eclat & to set the light use Souffle D’Eclat Powder and that’s why LIGHT BELONGS TO YSL.
What are some of the essentials a woman should have with her in order to do regular touch ups throughout the night?
As most of the women in the GCC has combination to oily skin She should use the compact radiance powder from YSL to matify her complexion &I recommend to keep Dessin du regard 01 to adjust her eye makeup & the Baby Doll Kiss & Blush lipstick to touch up her lip & cheeks.
What is your advice for wedding guests?
I advise to take care of their skin to have the radiant, fresh skin use For Ever Youth Liberator Serum for face & Eye from YSL.
To have a long lasting eye shadow use the YSL couture eye primer 1 or 2 before the eye shadow.
What to eat and what to stay away from to maintain a healthy complexion, figure and energy level
The food that goes into our mouth determines how we will feel and look throughout the day, but if we follow a healthy dietician recommended regime, then we are able to control our state of my mind. It is a fact that on such an important, pre-planned occasion, the adrenaline in our body kicks in blurs our thinking. We are so consumed, hyped up, and nervous at the same time with everything happening around us, that we sometimes even forget to eat. Under stress, every body reacts differently and whether you over eat or avoid food altogether, both cases affect your energy level and nerves throughout the day.
After spending so much time planning and anticipating the big day, all that is left to do is make sure you don’t neglect your mind and body so that you can peacefully enjoy the reward of your efforts. For this, a&e consulted Nadine Tayara, Dietitian and Centre Manager at The Right Bite Nutrition Centre, regarding the right foods to consume and which to avoid on the big day.
How do you advise the couple to get their required vitamins for the day?
With it being a hectic yet awesome day ahead, it is important not to forget to eat! Kick-start your metabolism and regulate your appetite by having a healthy, and wholesome breakfast as this will also keep your blood sugar levels controlled by providing you with the energy needed for an exciting day ahead.
An ideal healthy breakfast should be well-balanced including low glycemic (GI) carbohydrates to help stabilise your sugar levels throughout the day. Cooked rolled oats and quinoa porridge topped with sliced peaches or chopped banana are a good choices. Protein is also important to help keep you feeling full; another option for breakfast can be fat-free, plain-flavoured Greek yogurt topped with mixed berries such as blueberries and strawberries and some organic muesli.
Make sure you are well hydrated throughout the day by drinking plenty of water, you can even enjoy all-natural infused water such as adding sliced cucumber, fresh mint leaves or lemon wedges to your water. This will ensure that you’ll feel more energized and alert throughout the day. Water will also improve your skin and complexion, as well as curb your appetite. Herbal teas are also a good choice and may calm any jitters you may have!
What do you advise for lunchtime, which is usually the time when the bride’s hair and makeup is nearing completion?
Opt for foods that are easy to digest; yet high in fiber making you fuller for a longer time and helping you maintain energy levels. You’ll get a healthy boost from whole grain products (such as whole-wheat bread or brown rice), green vegetables and lean protein (like fish or tofu).
For example, try grilled tuna (low in fat and calories) or salmon (high in healthy omega-3 fats) with some brown rice & vegetables on the side.
How do you advise them to keep up their energy throughout the day? Any snacks or smoothies you recommend?
It is important not to skip meals, and eating right on your wedding day is equally crucial. Choose whole foods rich in protein, healthy fats, and fibre to maintain energy throughout the day. Prepare in advance some homemade trail mix to snack on throughout the day; a nice combination would be unsalted almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds and some dried fruits and if you feel you won’t have time to prepare such a snack, then grab a fruit for that quick energy boost should you need during the day! For some green goodness, you can sip on a homemade green juice (made of spinach or kale leaves, avocado, celery and cucumber sticks, green apple and a banana) and add some super food seeds such as chia or flax seeds for that extra antioxidant boost! Though you may not be sensitive to dairy products it might be best to avoid them on your wedding day as they are known to cause bloating. If you must, you can have a small serving of plain Greek yogurt.
Are there any foods to stay away from on the special day?
To avoid feeling sluggish or bloated on your wedding day, try to stay away from:
With regards to anxiety, it is proven that certain foods cause or heighten the level of anxiousness in people. How do you suggest the couple and their families to tackle this issue?
Consuming wholesome, nutritious and clean food is always best, no matter what the occasion is! Limiting our intake of foods that are high in fat, sugar and salt will surely help with our mood, energy levels and make us less anxious and tired.
Top picks to calm you on this special day:
How to dress for a White Wedding
Olivier’s experience and French background greatly influences his work in terms of style and taste. Bringing inspiration from Paris, the city of Fashion and Design, he’s entered the Gulf and regional markets with style, elegance and keen industry knowledge. Here’s what he had to tell a&e about a wedding planner’s role and responsibilities:
What are some of the benefits of hiring a wedding planner?
Planning a wedding is a major undertaking that can lead to stress and unhappiness for the soon to be married couple. Many people think that there are no benefits to hiring a wedding planner, and that it is a luxury. On the contrary, hiring a wedding planner can save you a great deal of money since wedding planners have access to special discounts with suppliers, florists, caterers and all other services related to the wedding. In addition, they save you time and help you overcome hard decisions or suggest colours and themes when the bride is confused. Most importantly, wedding planners aim at eliminating the stress from the bride by being well organized and taking care of every detail in the wedding so that the bride can be calm and enjoy the process of the wedding as well as her big day.
How should a couple go about choosing their wedding planner?
I always tell my brides to enjoy the process of planning their wedding because it’s the funniest part. The wedding day will vanish in a blink of an eye. Thus, to enjoy it they should be very comfortable with their wedding planner, they should feel at ease when they want to speak to them at any time of the day. The relationships I build with my brides are beyond business and are simply priceless.
What is your opinion on the trends in the region and what are some of the most popular requests you get?
There is no such thing as trends when it comes to weddings. I believe a wedding should be a reflection of the bride’s personality and taste; rather than what is trendy in the market. The most requested style is the vintage wedding at the moment.
Let us be a bit more specific, with regards to the venue, how should a couple go about choosing it? What are some of the most popular venues according to your clients?
The two factors that determine the venue are: the number of guests and the season in which the bride and groom want their wedding to take place. Every venue has a limited capacity, in addition the season determines whether the venue should be indoors or outdoors. Among the most popular venues in Dubai are Johara ballroom in Madinat Jumeirah, Zabeel ballroom in the World Trade Center, and the Armani Ballroom in the Armani Burj Khalifa Hotel.
You tend to apply many changes to the floor concept in your designs, what can you tell us about this element? Is it quite popular to the chance the leveling and colours of the floor?
The floor has a major impact on the overall look of the venue and the first impression. It unifies the look .I like to always choose black or white for the flooring to grasp the guests’ attention on the details of the décor. Multicoloured flooring with motive is disturbing to the eye and attract attention for the wrong reasons. Experience proves that a one coloured floor makes much better pictures
What are some entertainment ideas that are gaining popularity? What are some classics that many couples still decide to use?
I brought the Lido dancers from France several times and they were just beyond amazing. Among the most popular entertainment is having a violinist at the cocktail reception, Zaffe for the bride and groom entrance with a group of dancers and percussions. The first dance and the bride and father dance, and groom and mother dance still rule for western weddings.
Tell us about the presentation of food during the wedding, how do you try to enhance the dining experience?
While venue in décor is extremely important, food presentation also plays a vital role in the event design. The chef’s training and background, the sources they purchase their food from. Where and when will the food items be cooked and prepared for the guests, and how will the food be displayed on the buffet or on the plate if it is a seated dinner? These are all important points that we focus on to help the bride determine the level of service the culinary team will bring to the event table.
On the big day, how do you manage to keep everything on check?
All my event managers and team are present at the wedding from set-up till after the last guest leaves and dismantling takes places. Preparations and briefs to all department all occur weeks before the wedding, we never keep anything for the last minute. And we always have a plan B.
Are there any stories you would like to share with us? Any challenges you have faced or some exciting projects you highly enjoyed working on?
I really enjoy working on big royal weddings that include 3D mapping because the bigger the wedding the more the challenge and the more it requires creativity and innovation.

A Quartet of rings crafted from Love & Diamonds
In a honeymoon of jewellery-making, Cartier has crafted a quartet of precious rings encrusted with diamonds. These intimate pieces celebrate the union of style and craftsmanship in a display of exquisite carats. At once wedding rings, solitaires and evening jewellery, these rings make an impression on every occasion. They are adornments for the skin that sparkle with femininity and elegance. Each one artistic and delicate, these are the modern-day incarnations of Cartier style, from floral to abstract and from the golden age of cocktail rings to the dazzling whirl of the Trinity.
Trinity Ruban Solitaire Platinum.
In size 52: 1 1.50-carat diamond (also available in versions from 0.50 to 4.99 carats) and 125 diamonds weighing 1.29 carats
Trinity Ruban, Icon of Diamonds
The diamond and the Trinity ring: two myths, two creative mysteries; here, the most impregnable stone of the mineral world graces three bands enlaced together forever in an enigmatic display of jewellery alchemy. Joined together, for better, in a shared celebration of emotion and eternity, an ideal of purity that is embodied by the Trinity Ruban solitaire. A solitaire in motion, a swirl of love and diamonds, a single never-ending line in celebration of an eternal bond; Cartier’s legendary three-banded ring, uniquely re-interpreted as a ribbon of platinum paved with diamonds. A whirl of elegance, light and balanced, it waltzes from one curve to the next in the radiant euphoria of a promise of of happiness. Sensual and pure, luscious and sophisticated, this creative ring draws on the magic of the famous Trinity, a thrice-tied knot of bands surrounding a diamond available in weights from 0.50 to 4.99 carats. A marriage of splendour and symbolism crafted with exquisite jewellery expertise that allows Cartier to curve, bend and wind metal with such grace and exhilaration.

Diamond ring
White gold, diamonds. In size 52: 6 pear-cut diamonds weighing 0.60 carats and 84 brilliant-cut diamonds weighing 0.60 carats
Flowers interlace in an organic diamond embrace. This white-gold wedding ring blooms as fresh and youthful as floral lace. Set with diamonds, paved with brilliant-cut diamonds and adorned with pear-shaped fancy-cut diamonds, this precious flower is the fruit of Cartier’s extraordinary jewellerymaking expertise. This is a ring of sparkling romance and luminous lightness that perpetuates the charm of Cartier’s first pieces in the garland style.
Diamond ring
White gold. In size 52: 27 brilliant-cut diamonds weighing 0.77 carats and 9 princess-cut diamonds weighing 1.44 carats
Between abstraction and minimalism lies the strength of style. All is in the lines and intended simplicity of shapes: bezel-set brilliant-cut and princess-cut diamonds clutched in the bejewelled geometry of circles and squares. This timeless wedding ring is the rightful heir of Cartier’s art deco style, with its graphic roundness encased in glittering round diamonds.
Diamond ring
White gold. In size 52: 18 baguette-cut diamonds weighing 2.16 carats and 36 diamonds weighing 1.76 carats
A triumph of voluptuousness and ultimate femininity. This flowing, supple ring with fully articulated links is weaved like an haute couture piece that embraces every feminine move of the finger. In an expertly executed feat of fine jewellery craftsmanship, the mounting is entirely masked by a tangle of baguette- and roundcut diamonds. This ring is an explosion of light, with a scale and sensuality that celebrate ultimate femininity, much like the rings that adorned elegant fingers during the Maison’s golden age.
NEO is made for modern life. The versatile system range offers comfort, function and storage space in a minimalist clear design and has the potential to become a true hülsta classic. New finishes and lots of equipment for technology fans make this living room range even more flexible.
Clean and simple lines, variable design
The NEO principle is convincingly simple: Clearly defined modular units in different widths, heights and depths, which can be freestanding, stacked or suspended are the basis for NEO. The range is available in core walnut and natural oak, both can be perfectly combined with white, grey and cocoa lacquer. High-gloss lacquers or rear-lacquered glass surfaces in the same colour spectrum add accents ranging from cosily warm to subtle and pure. New, even slimmer sizes and modular units available completely in veneer or high-gloss supplement the classical NEO versions and increase the architectural scope with the units. The design concept is complemented by a side panel system and front units such as doors, flaps or drawers, which are all handle-less and can be opened using hülsta quality push-to-open technology.
Living with technology
NEO is tailor-made for living with technology. In addition to details such as a lighting system with colour change control, the updated version certainly sets the benchmark in terms of sound. Apart from the popular media panel, a sound unit delivering crystal clear sound is also available for music fans. The joint development by HiFi-experts from Lautsprecher Teufel offers outstanding features in terms of design and sound quality, whilst the technology remains concealed behind the simplistic NEO surface.

NEO allows you to plan clever corner combinations. A combination of low, closed and high, open compartments gives a sense of openness and cleverly uses the living area.

NEO offers storage space in a light-hearted, asymmetrical or clearly simplistic furniture architecture. An elegant sound panel conceals the integrated sound unit including cables and also offers space for a flat screen.

The 3.1 surround sound system – a joint development by hülsta and Lautsprecher Teufel – offers first class technology. The satellite speakers are concealed behind a fabric panel, the ultra-slim subwoofer behind a flap. A cut-out section in the bottom panel ensures a perfect bass sound without compromise.

The wooden surfaces on the high-gloss sideboard add vibrant accents. The door and drawer fronts are entirely handle-less. They are opened using a push-to-openmechanism.
