Thom Walker Givenchy Makeup Creative Director discusses his love for beauty and his creative influences.

Givenchy Parfums recently named Thom Walker as Creative Director of Givenchy Makeup. The British makeup artist is known for his creativity, charisma and innovative approach to makeup, which is both sharp and powerful.

Drawing on various sources of inspiration, including fashion and architecture, he likes to play on contrasts, lighting effects and bold colours to enhance the facial features of women and men alike. A creator of edgy and striking looks, he is equally as passionate about makeup innovation and all aspects of the development process.

His knowledge of the fashion scene, his distinctive style and his innovative yet natural approach to makeup are the perfect match for the elegant yet bold world of Givenchy beauty. I am thrilled that he is now contributing his talent and creativity to our makeup and to its international success.

As we enter a new season we took the chance to talk to Walker about the latest products, makeup trends and the inspiration behind his makeup creations.

What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty can be found anywhere and within anything. I like to experiment with simplistic elements of beauty and make that simplicity bold and impactful.

Who is your beauty icon?

Anjelica Huston – I think she’s simply amazing. I love the fact that she plays with both powerful femininity and masculinity.

Do you remember the first time you discovered Givenchy, fashion and beauty-wise?

I remember discovering Givenchy when Alexander McQueen was the brand’s fashion creative director. I remember seeing such beautiful yet daring runway shows and I was just in awe. My first memory of Givenchy beauty would be the Phenomen’eyes mascara.

Which Givenchy emblematic beauty creation has influenced you?

It would again be the Phenomen’eyes mascara. When you opened it up there was that tiny little ball that just lifted and curled your lashes instantly, I had never seen anything like it.

What are your favourite Givenchy products to dress up the eyes and lips?

Le 9 De Givenchy eyeshadow palette offers 9 shades of eyeshadows. I love the 9.01 palette. Le Rouge Sheer Velvet lipstick is also a beautiful modern matte lipstick creating a cloud-like finish on the lips.

What do you think the brand’s strengths are?

I would say its’ strong sense of the Givenchy woman. Along with its design and product innovation.
