Emirati Jewellery Designer Launches New Brand

  |   13-10-2015

Ruwaya Jewellery is inspired by family and local culture. The exclusive luxury jewellery brand was created by Emirati designer Fatima Al Dhaheri and it’s named after her grandmother. The idea behind the name captures her grandmother’s strong and beautiful spirit.

It takes inspiration from Al Dhaheri’s family and Arabic aesthetics. She said: “Ruwaya stands for all that my grandmother embodied, but it’s also about all strong, bold and beautiful women from this region. We chose a woman’s name because we really wanted to focus on the femininity of the brand.”

She also highlighted how her jewellery targets women from all over the world. She added: “Ruwaya is for everyone – Arab women, Western women and women from other cultures as well.  It’s for woman who want to feel special and beautiful and for woman who love to make a statement.”

Ruwaya combines vivid aesthetics with raw beauty. Each exquisite handcrafted piece is unique and features precious stones sourced directly by Al Dhaheri, from all corners of the globe. Every piece begins with the stone. The creative and spiritual designer finds precious stones that ‘talk’ to her through their individual energy, colour and radiance. She uses each stone’s unique personality to craft her vision.

As each piece takes shape, the physical attributes of the stone help define the final design. Every detail is carefully considered and evolves organically throughout the creation process. Therefore, each piece is completely original and has a different personality and story to tell.

“I’m very proud of the fact every item is handmade and truly unique. Ruwaya is not instant design and produce jewellery. They are one of a kind pieces, so our clients are wearing something very special.  I believe this sets us apart from others in the industry,” she said.

The collection was unveiled on the 12th October at the Rosewood Hotel Abu Dhabi and the launch event was attended by HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development.
