The streetwear trend seems to be stronger than ever. Public School already showed their Spring ’17 men’s and women’s collections in June and now there are new brands coming to the forefront at New York Fashion Week.

Kith

Kith was founded by Ronnie Fieg in 2011. Their concept is to have “drops” throughout the season instead of bending to a retail schedule. Since he doesn’t wholesale, Fieg can design his collections a lot closer to the “in store” dates.

For women’s Fall ’16 collection Kith collaborated with adidas by Stella McCartney. It highlighted cutting-edge technology infused with high style. Apparel includes seamless layering pieces, enhanced bodysuits, dynamic outerwear and a variety of elevated tights. Footwear silhouettes are also completely original, combining Stella’s forward-thinking design motifs with adidas’s progressive tech.

Nate Brown, who designs Kanye’s West’s Yeezy shows, was tapped to design the show for NYFW’s Fall ’16 presentation, there will be tech element thanks to Samsung. The show, which will be held at the new Samsung 837 space, will be broken up into three sections: City, Mountain, and Beach. City represents the original New York stores, while Mountain and Beach will represent Aspen and Miami, where Kith is opening new stores later this year. Mixed into all three sections will be 24 brand-new collaborations. Off-White Timberland and Nishikawa Down are just a few other brands Kith has collaborated with this season.

Heron-Preston

Heron Preston for DSNY

If you don’t already know, designer Heron Preston has been working on a new project with the New York City Department of Sanitation. He’s teamed up with the DSNY to raise awareness for the 0x30 initiative, New York City’s goal to send zero waste to landfills by 2030. He worked with the DSNY to collect donated T-shirts, hoodies, pants, jackets, vests and gloves from sanitation workers, then “enhanced the uniforms” with screen-printed graphics, or deconstructed the vests to make oversize bags lined with vintage black Levi’s denim. The designer shows his interest with sustainable fashion whilst redesigning uniforms. He told Vogue: “The collection will have a shoppable pop-up, too—no more waiting for months. I just want to have fun with my dreams and bring them to life, no more leaning on reality. I want to challenge people’s ideas.”

MISBHV

It may be the Polish brand’s first New York Fashion Week event but celebrities like Rihanna are already fans. She recently wore a vinyl Misbhv jacket to close her Anti tour which created a stir. Designer Natalia Maczek is inspired by the star and Comme des Garçons. She told Vogue: “I like Rihanna and I like Comme des Garçons, so we try to find a way to bridge both of those worlds. We might take a streetwear staple like a hoodie or jeans, but we want to elevate those garments using interesting silhouettes and deconstruction.”

Highlights so far include oversize moto jackets with chain details, exaggerated cropped flares and faux-fur-lined denim jackets. Although the new collection is geared toward women there is a unisex, genderless essence to the new line. “A lot of our female customers buy our men’s pieces, and they look amazing. Clothing today should be interlinked between the sexes—it’s the natural progression of fashion,” she concluded.
