Clare Waight Keller welcomes her very first couture collection, and it was full of poise and boldness. Givenchy’s first-time couturier put an impeccable show charged with highly refined artistry and craftsmanship.
“I like to think of it as old soul in a new reincarnation.”- Waight Keller said after the show.
The modernised couture collection referenced the house’s traditional feminine cuts, and the importance of top tailoring.
Overall, the show focused on evening-wear in sophisticated dark tones, monochromatic elegant coats, and elaborated gowns topped with an extravagant feathered panache. There were also powerful looks like a multicoloured skirt matched with a classic turtleneck, and a fine-looking latex long pink skirt looked paired with a fringed boxy top.
There was also a great interest in men’s wear, where Waight Keller introduced a variety of ubercool options for guys; and needless to say seeing men walk the couture runway is pretty groundbreaking.
Waight Keller’s is clearly off to a great start, and her objective was to deliver a high level of structured dressing for the women of today.

Yesterday morning in Paris, Chanel decided to keep things simple as invitees took their seats front row within an intimate setting inside the Grand Palais, surrounded by a walled garden with a fountain centerpiece.
This being an Haute Couture Collection, apart from the charming French garden, Karl Lagerfeld made sure every piece is the star of its own show. Lagerfeld couldn’t resist the floral spell, where he sent out models wearing a short black veil at the top of their head.
The flower power collection displayed a subtle palette of mostly powdery pinks and few random splashes eye-popping colours. There was so many fresh ideas with dramatic shaped dresses mixed with various silhouette options- short and long gowns, voluminous skirts, straight-cuts and more.
The brand is famous for it’s perfect proportions, and what’s a Chanel show without its lightness and tweed embroideries. There were lots of dreamy options diversified with vibrant pleated gowns, silvery jumpsuits, and dresses embellished with transparent flowers.
The maker of dresses never fails to disappoint, Lagerfeld put on a very French and an haute, haute couture collection. Explore it all in the gallery above.

This month we will be heading to Maldivian paradise for our belated honeymoon. We will move around the islands, but I am particularly excited to stay at Gili Lankanfushi with its barefoot luxury.
Another ultimate spot that I would love to visit is The Brando in Bora Bora for its castaway experience, it has always been a dream destination and is certainly on the wish list.

My dream travel destination for next year is Africa! After Europe and Asia and the Middle East, I think it’s the right time to see Africa. I want to go there to live the extreme adventure of getting closer to lions, elephants, zebras, leopards etc and the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti is exactly what I need in order to experience an amazing African safari. Tanzania you are on the top of my list of dream destinations!

My dream travel destination for 2018, is to plan a winter trip to Northern Norway, especially to see the spectacular Aurora Borealis lights. This adventurous experience would be complete by staying at the Malangen Resort located in the Tromso region, offering countless activities from hiking through the snowy landscapes of Alta, to dogsledding at the Holmen Husky Lodge and visiting the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel- a hotel fully made of ice.
Diana Bell-Heather, Online Editor of aemagazine.com
When I lived in London I always had the tendency to travel as far away as possible, but now we’re based in Dubai I am drawn back to Europe. One place that has been on my to do list is Barcelona. The art, the history, the food and atmosphere make it one of the most travelled to places in the world and I personally can’t wait to experience it for myself and am particularly looking forward at staying at Soho House.

Maison Georges Hobeika displayed a quite delicate and dreamy SS18 Couture collection. Deeply inspired by the magnificent Greek civilisation, richness of the culture and heritage, thIS collection is an exercise of complete alluring temptation.
There were graceful long tunics, featuring gleaming embroidered details mixed with luxe fabrics and attractive motifs.
Soft pearls, laser-cut appliqués and crystal embellishments delicately sparkled feminine silhouettes; the harmonious colour palette presented soft shades that reference the Aegean Sea’s glare, gilded bronze ceramics, and gloss-finished marbles.
Majestic accessories of angel wings earrings and rings refined the entire collection. Finely crafted stilettos were crowned with leather strips and antique lace-up sandals were defined with shiny bronze bracelets.
For the house’s final mastery, Hobeika unleashed his glorifying ancient Greek goddess in a form of a wedding gown- artistically representing a cloud of romantic lace.

Showcasing in the garden of the Musée Rodin, Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri Spring’18 walked a runway of walls fully covered in muslin and black-and-white checkerboard floor. It was a clear Surrealist inspiration behind the extravagant collection.
Referring back to Mr. Christian Dior’s archial burgeoning years with the artistic movement, and his collaboration with fellow Leonor Fini, Chiuri has taken a step back at Fini’s great work, and opened the shot with the artist’s famous saying: “Only the inevitable theatricality of my life interests me.”
While the displaying a charming collection, towards the finale the designs left us hanging and wanting more. There was some risk-taking, more boldness, and more dramatic glam. Mainly Chiuri worked in monochromatic colours- black and white, which she explains as “the colors of the subconscious.”
Models pranced in bold graphics, lots of feathers and introduced classic art elements- referenced in big lace gowns, a pleated dress creating a etched illusion, and stripes and checkerboards.
One that caught our eye is the ‘cage dresses’, which projects deep feminity and a surprising sensuality – very much unlike Chiuri rest
This time around Dior’s Chiuri kept away from sportswear designs and developed a sophisticated tailoring retro exception, like no other.

Sheet masks became one of the biggest skincare hits over last few months. Soaked in serums and active ingredients, they were designed for fuss free application that deliver instant transformation and super smooth skin.
Some claimed to be as good as injectable boosters while others contained advanced ingredients like gold leaf, pearl and charcoal. However, there is a new skincare hero on the block promising instant hydration – the jelly masks.
Thanks to the phenomenon of K-Beauty (or Korean beauty), these gewy skin complexion enhancers are your answer to intensely hydrated complexion that leaves you feeling fresh and rosy. The light texture is a real treat to apply and unlike with the sheet mask where every face wiggle threatens it falling off, this bouncy product will stay put while working it’s magic. So if the desert climate and overuse of the AC has left your skin tired and dull, give this wiggly product a go.
Our top three favourites include Dior Hydra Life Glow Better Fresh Jelly Mask, Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective Masque and Kiehl’s Since 1851 Calendula & Aloe Hydration Masque.

Referencing back to the brand’s strong foundation in travel attire, creative director Kim Jones successfully modernised that with a mix of street-style aesthetic. The Fall 2018 menswear collection reminded us that traditional fashion can also be original with the right amount of urban sharpness added to it.
Louis Vuitton transformed the brand’s signature logo by calling for ‘Peace and Love’, “I thought this was a nice way to leave,” he said before the show, as he referred to a beige cashmere LV monogrammed sweater. Kim tweaked this collection with a visit to the neon trend with a display of colourful backpacks, suitcases, and featured rock–textured prints inspired by his photographs taken from his various trips to Africa.
Also, the designer gave a nod to the Western world, including sweat-shorts in cashmere, floral embroidered leather jackets, and cowboy boots. Jones gave this range an extra twist with a series of monogrammed printed leggings, and other pieces like coats and parkas came with advanced technicalities, which made the entire collection super versatile.
Jones marked his last show by inviting two top British supermodels: Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss; both legends came out sporting glossy trench-coats monogramed with the label’s iconic logo, paired with nothing but combat boots.
He came, he showed and he conquered! Truth to be told this collection was a great ending to a perfect journey. And Kim Jones will always be remembered as the genius designer who introduced high-end streetwear to the French maison.

Breaking News: Men’s Creative Director Kim Jones To Leave Louis Vuitton
Did you know that majority of us will give up our new year resolutions three weeks into the new year? Fitness is one of the biggest changes made and the best way to get into a new routine is by slipping into your forgotten sneakers and pounding the pavement.
Tala Al Ejou, personal trainer, running coach, creator of Run, Wild, Free is the newest ambassador to join luxury fitness brand lululemon. The French-Saudi Dubai-based athlete demonstrates an unwavering determination to incorporate functional strength building into the lives of everyone she coaches and meets and here she shares her tips and tricks to pursuing your health goals.
What did you have for breakfast?
This is the one meal I can never skip, it is probably my favorite meal of the day. I actually sometimes have two breakfasts. My super early breakfast usually includes a coffee, a banana, and a piece of wholewheat toast with peanut/almond butter and honey. My late morning breakfast post training or in between training clients is eggs or a smoothie.
Tell us a bit about your fitness history, were you always a sporty type?
I started off playing squash as a child quite competitively that I had to play against women much older than me at the time, and also against the boys. Then I went to boarding school where I ran cross country and played lacrosse. I remember being thrown into my first ever cross country race and sprinting off and kept going, and at some point turning around and finishing and being like where is everyone. I’ve always had good endurance and once I set my mind to something I don’t look back. I even tried kite-boarding professional for a while, tried a few competitions on the world tour when I was living in Brazil.
How do we kickstart our fitness routine in the new year?
Setting goals, big or small is what will keep you motivated, keep you inspired and what will push you to get out in the morning and achieve them.
Your tips on staying motivated?
Find friends that are passionate about the same things as you. We all motivate each other differently, and yet at the core we all have this one passions to go running together and be outside. Change up your routine, run somewhere different, and always run with people. That way you can’t show up or not go because you know someone is waiting for you, and what better way to start your day doing something healthy surrounded by motivating people.
Give us three good reasons to start running?
It’s one of the cheapest sports out there and one that probably gives you the most satisfaction when you finish, there is not better feeling that a runners high.
Running can be very sociable, if you’re part of a run club or a group of friends that run, its a great way to catch up with friends and run in places you’ve never run before. Running is also one of the biggest stress busters. I don’t come across many people that are angry or stressed when they’ve just finished a run.
Best running spots in the region?
I absolutely love running in the mountains of Wadi Showka, and however much I struggle running up Jabal Jais (highest mountain in the UAE) the view from the top makes the run so worth it. A lot of people tend to say that running here is so boring and that there is no nature, however I find that the UAE has an abundance of amazing places to run, you just have to be willing to get in your car early in the morning and drive to them.
Any fitness apps you’d recommend?
Strava and Garmin are the apps I use the most, as they are great running community apps, where you can compare and also check how all your friends are doing and running. Mapmyrun is also a highly recommended too that allows you to map out your run prior to running and being sure of the exact distance of where you want to run.
What is the best decision you ever made?
I would actually say going from studying to being a marine biologist to finding my path back to fitness, which is what I was always passionate about from a young age.
What are your new year resolutions?
My new years resolution for 2018 would be to keep pushing boundaries to what I think I’m capable of, running trail races that will be so out of my comfort zone but more importantly waking up every day still being passionate about what I doing. More than anything for 2018 I want to keep pushing people to move better and motivating them every day to strive for something that they love to do.

Sarah Burton never fails to disappoint, for Alexander McQueen’s Fall’18 menswear collection, she took inspiration from her hometown; representing Britain’s most iconic male faces.
The designer merged an eclectic collage of photographs by Perry Ogden’s Irish pony kids, some of the East End boys and mental references from the avant-garde novelist, Samuel Beckett. And of course, who else but the greatest of them all, the founder Lee Alexander McQueen, who was remembered through thick camel coats and shearling jackets.
The whole collection was conveyed into a contemporary mix of classics, translated through a display of pinstriped suits and deconstructed outerwear sweater pieces. Plus, suit jackets were tucked-in at the waist with wide shoulders. Super slim trench coats were tied around the waist like skirts, and some others like bomber jackets, pea coats and an oversized leather duffle featured two zippers creating a unique layering illusion.
Burton sent out plenty of the label’s signature designs: a classic tailored top coat in black, matched with a light fringed silk scarf and white sneakers and patchwork silk long-coat embellished with beads.
The show was similar to Burton’s previous shows displayed in Milan, but minus the dark overtones. This year the result was rich, attractively versatile and very much McQueen.

Step inside Versace’s Milanese palazzo in Via Gesù with the Pre-Fall 2018 collection that captures the essence of the brands home.
The courtyard mosaic, the infamous Medusa, timeless furnishing and rich décor like velvet baroque, fine silk, and bold print all play a role in delivering a line up that feels like an emotional journey back to Donatella Versace’s roots.
The contrast of prints, shapes and textures may seem overwhelming at first glance but there lies the genius of Donatella who manages to balance the opulence with wearability. An exaggerated puffer reminds us of a chic duvet while mock croc printed on vinyl plays with a hi-low aesthetic. The vintage logo comeback revamps the signature “more-is-more” mantra while creating a sporty all-over print featured on knit, nylon outerwear, denim and accessories.
But it’s the bold prints that dominate the collection with leopards peering out from heritage prints, the palazzo’s luxurious beating heart is translated into a Harlequin patterned print that reimagines the entrance to Gianni’s private “Sala del Camino”.
Moving and fashionable, it can’t get more Versace than that.
