Planning soulful beachside wedding? House of Morai, a home-grown UAE brand, offers bohemian inspired and hand-made dresses for brides who love to feel the sand between their toes.
Founded in 2012 by Barbaranne Heaton, House Of Moirai strives to fill the gap in the regional market for bridal wear with a more relaxed and modern vibe. Key elements of all their gowns are the cut, drape of the fabric and the free spirited nature.
“We love taking our brides through a journey, and getting to know them. In each of our creations an element of the bride’s personality shines through. It’s all about attention to detail and how the brides dress makes her feel,” says Barbaranne. “We have created over 100 gowns, and they have been flown to all parts of the world; from snowy mountains in New Zealand to remote islands off Madagascar.”
Barbaranne has been a fashion designer for the last 15-years. Her mother was a dress maker, and as a young girl, she spent a lot of her childhood enjoying watching her mother create in her studio. As Barbaranne started to explore her future career, becoming a fashion designer was a natural step for her, and she has now been designing garments for the last 15 years before transitioning into bridal wear in 2012.
With a loyal following, House Of Moirai are looking to expand their offering later this year with the launch their first ready to wear bridal range. Stay tuned.
Edition, the contemporary luxury hotel group, have entered the Middle East Market with the opening of their first property in Abu Dhabi.
The Overview
The Abu Dhabi EDITION is bound to be the new hot spot in the city located on a prime site on the Al Bateen peninsula, 20 minutes from The Louvre Abu Dhabi and the beaches of Saadiyat, and just 35 minutes from Yas Island and offering a waterfront oasis. Like their other properties around the world, the hotel promises to be stylish, modern and polished. Consisting of 198 guest rooms and suites, as well as 57 exclusive residences, expect personal, friendly, contemporary five-star service as well as outstanding, one-of-a-kind food, beverage and entertainment offerings.
“It’s about an attitude, about a feeling rather than a look,” Ian Schrager, owner of Edition Hotels says. “Sophisticated public spaces, finishes, design and details serve the experience, not drive it”.
The Design
The hotel group prides itself on exception design and the Abu Dhabi EDITION is no different. Designed throughout by Ian Schrager Company and Wimberly Interiors, the cavernous five-storey lobby contains a dramatic, curved atrium with a sinuously shaped balustrade, echoing the movement of the water and mirroring the marine narrative of the development. The vast lobby contains two signature armchairs by local designer, Latifa Saeed inspired by the distinctive way Emirati children braid their hair, while reception walls are ensconced with gold leaf.
The VVIP
For the wow factor, book the Marina Penthouse or the Royal Penthouse. Both feature panoramic views over the water on two sides as well as a large, private balcony. Each penthouse contains a large bedroom with six-fixture bath and soaking tub, whilst the lounge area contains a living room and dining area. For enhanced security and privacy, the penthouse suites also offer allocated parking spaces and a dedicated elevator.
The Food
The three signature restaurants were created by Michelin-star chef Tom Aikens and include a healthy all-day grazing spot called Market. Fans of contemporary British food have to try the Oak Room, a traditional English oak panelled restaurant, celebrating world-class ingredients with British rock ‘n’ roll flair. Over on the Marina side of the hotel, Aikens has created a serene, coastal Mediterranean-style restaurant, Alba Terrace, that transcends day-to-night, offering the finest locally sourced coffee, light lunches and sharing plates.
The TLC
The spa, opening later this year, will feature separate zones for men and women, consisting of seven treatment rooms including two Hammams, a facial room and couple’s treatment suite. The women’s area also houses a beauty salon and a relaxation lounge. The men’s area features a barbershop by Chaps & Co. For fitness enthusiasts, The Abu Dhabi EDITION offers two purpose-built gyms and also boasts two white-tiled swimming pools, one connecting to the main hotel and the other in the private residences.
Looks like we found a new spot for a staycation.
We may never have to deal with sub-zero temperatures in Dubai, but any shift in weather can have an affect your skin.
Dry and flaky complexion is one of the biggest complaints during the winter months, but team a&e is on hand to help you find products that’ll give you all the hydration, nourishment, and the protection you need.
The trick is to start preparing your skin as early as possible for the temperature drop by adding deeply nourishing creams, sheet masks and serums. Switching from a lighter to a thicker cream formula is a fundamental step and we are currently testing the Sisley Velvet Nourishing Cream with Saffron. Its 2-in-1 formula is capable of protecting by day and repairing by night while targeting all that factors that contribute to skin dryness.
Certain foam cleansers can be harsh on the skin making it feel tight and uncomfortable. Try swapping in a balm instead that effectively removes any impurities while keeping most of your natural skin oils intact.
If you are going to prioratise, focus more on the night time routine to guarantee a glowing complexion by morning. Bedtime is also the best time to introduce and oil or serum and use gentle hand movements to massage the products into your skin. You’ll feel extra relaxed while the ingredients are activated. You don’t have to change up your serum for winter, but if you feel your skin needs extra love, use a few drops of Vitamin C or E with your moisturiser.
Dry air might put you off exfoliating, but its one of the best ways to achieve a brighter complexion. The important thing is to avoid exfoliators with very hard beads and only use it one or two times a week. Follow this with a night mask containing calming ingredients that tackle redness and irritation, resulting in a fresh-faced skin by the time your morning alarm goes off.
Your hydrated and glowing complexion is just a few clicks away with our ultimate dry skin beauty edit above.
As The Dubai Mall, aka the biggest mall in the world, celebrate 10 years next month, team a&e pick some of our favourite spots to eat, shop and see.
Do
The Dubai Mall aquarium is a must. Not only is it one of the biggest glass homes for marine life in the world, there’s fish feeding, scuba diving and behind the scenes tours. Our tip, is to skip the tunnel walk through and head straight to the underwater zoo.
The biggest mall in the world is also adjacent to the tallest building of the world so tick them both off your list and go to the highest point possible on the Burj Khalifa.
Cool off at the ice rink where you can get one to one lessons and sometimes spot the local hockey ice hockey teams go head to head. If you want one of the most luxurious cinema dates, book a couple of comfy leather seats at the Platinum screen by ReelCinemas and enjoy great food and beverages.
Got a couple of kids full of energy? Kidzania is your answer to interactive and fun activities that even the parents might enjoy.
Top tip: for the best spot to see the fountain show, head to the balcony of the Apple Store.
Eat
One of our favourite breakfast spots is Two at Symphony located in the fashion extension and sits above the store. The décor is chic while the food is as equally healthy as it is indulgent. L’Eto and Aubaine are also Insta-worthy spots for breakfast and lunch.
The Labenese restaurant Lebabel has an enviable spot and is ideal for a post shop dinner, as does Emirati concept Logma that serves traditional dishes like machboos and khamir.
Shop (obviously)
The new fashion extension might’ve stolen some of the limelight from the rest of the mall, but there is a good reason for it. Housing some of the leading brands from the world of fashion, accessories and beauty, it’s one of the best retail experiences in town. Latest boutiques include Chanel’s first stand alone beauty store on the third floor and Sergio Rossi.
Bloomingdale’s is another must with an impressive men’s department, wide range of swimwear brands and a great selection of emerging labels (psst their Christmas decorations are in stock). You can also spot us checking out the latest drops at Sephora, &Other Stories, Charlotte Tilbury and Level Shoes.
Loro Piana is celebrating the unveiling of their new store in Dubai with an art installation that pays tribute to the Italian brands finest textiles.
Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Lateefa bint Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Founder and Director of Tashkeel, Loro Piana – a brand known for luxury cashmere and wool products – is set to open its doors in the Dubai Mall next month.
To mark this occasion, from November 8 to November 10, multi-sensorial installation by Arabic calligraphy artist eL Seed will be stationed at the Dubai opera sky garden. The piece was inspired by an ancient poem written by King Alfonso X, the enlightened, cosmopolitan ruler of thirteenth century Spain who played a pivotal role in the history of merino wool: The Gift of Kings®, both then and now.
Working closely with leading wool growers in Australia and New Zealand for many years, Loro Piana encourages and incentivises the production of this ever finer fibre. Visitors to the installation will have the opportunity to appreciate this one-of-a-kind treasure and experience the natural wonders of the world’s most beautiful wool.
Ever since Phoebe Philo exited Céline, the fashion world wondered what the designer is going to do next.
The Philophiles among us hoped that maybe she will launch her own label, especially as many found it hard to accept Hedi Slimane’s vision for the French brand. Philo has stayed quiet the last few months, but now we finally know what she’s been getting up to.
Before you get too excited, it has nothing to do with fashion, but the world of art is not too far apart from design and it’s been announced that she will be taking part in a panel during Engadin Art Talks.
The former Céline creative director will be at the 2019 edition of the festival held in the Alpine ski resort of Zuoz, Switzerland. Running through January 26 and 27, it will welcome experts from creative worlds including artists, designers, architects, scientists and writers to tackle the theme “How Do Gravity And Grace Define Current-Day Life In The Digital Age?”
The British designer will be joined on stage by photographer Juergen Teller, who notably shot most of Philo’s campaigns during her 10 years at Céline, alongside choreographer Cecilia Bengolea, musician Anthony Moore, architect Arno Brandlhuber and artist Lena Henke.
We expect the Philo effect to boost the ticket sales.
Happy that it’s finally beach weather? Us too, and the occasion calls for a few new additions to your beachside wardrobe.

Kristina Fidelskaya’s Resort 2019 collection offers boxy tailoring, free silhouettes and a neutral colour palette for a woman who wants to feel modern and put together.
To Fidelskaya, the woman she dresses want something meaningful, a garment that is functional and timeless and becomes one of the core pieces in her wardrobe. The pull away from trends in the direction of a capsule that has longevity and purpose is something that consumers are interested in more.
Elongated silhouettes have a monastic asceticism, drawing on the contrast of natural materials and advances textiles. Used for their ability to become heirlooms, they are treated on equal footing. A subtle touch of masculinity nods to seminal decades: the garçonne of the Roaring Twenties, the body freed in the Swinging Sixties, the code-breaking Eighties and visual cues from Saville Row and the relaxed attitude of leisurewear. Modern and strong.
The colour palette draws from Piero Manzoni’s Achromes to explore the transparent yet immutable presence of natural elements. The earthy lightness of blond sand and sandstone, the strong vegetality of tobacco brown and sage green, the stark power of onyx and ocean blue are echoed in a textural palette of washed canvas and evanescent parachute silk, technical poplin and Garza crepe, raw cotton and viscose twill. Metallic elements become the man-made jewels of the modern wardrobe while lightweight fabrics command attention, revealing the beauty of their natural fibre at their raw edges or as fringing.
The Arte Povera movement – birthed in the crucible of the late Sixties and cusp of the Seventies – finds a new territory in fashion, and a harmonious voice in Kristina Fidelskaya.

Clash of textures and graphic lines form the core of Hussein Bazaza SS19 collection.
Unveiled today, the designer created a fictional muse to tell the story of the latest collection in a powerful and evoking way. He named this character Hellène – a woman who lived her entire life seeking the ultimate perfection. The press release reads:
“She owned a hotel where she welcomed guests only to admire their beauty and steal the parts that she liked the most to create the perfect version of herself in her little lab. The result was a monster that ended up destroying her.”
Bazaza takes on a subject matter that has been at the centre of discussion for many years – the illusion of perfection that we see in publications, online and social media and the destructive nature of trying to achieve this impossible goal. After all, there is beauty in imperfection.
Mirroring this mental and physical struggle, he worked with bold clashes of textures – feathers, sequins, satin, denim, embroideries, and chiffon – and colours inspired by an enchanted garden such as light greens, fiery reds, bright blues and hints of yellows.
He also introduces a new version of the lace collage couture piece while keeping signature geometric cuts and colour blocking present. Constantly pushing the boundaries of his creativity, the collection makes a statement on many levels.

Kris Van Assche presents his first capsule collection for Berluti since joining the house as their Creative Director in April this year.
The range of pieces is a preview of what we can expect from the designer during his debut runway show in January 2019. The focus is on a contemporary wardrobe for men, something that than Van Assche knows well from his years at Dior Homme. He’s pushing the historical brand, with roots dating back 1895, into the future with a new approach to silhouettes, sportswear (note the sneakers) and sharp tailoring.
He is also reinventing the classics like the ‘Alessandro’ oxford that now feature a thicker leather sole, while the brand’s traditionally hand-worked patina signature is developed in a dual blue and red colourway, echoed in bags. The archival ‘Andy’ loafer – named after Warhol – is elevated on a creeper sole, and the ‘Scritto’, an eighteenth century manuscript motif inherent to Berluti, features in a graphic print on casualwear and bags.
A nod to the future, the new ‘Berluti 1895 Paris’ signature – unveiled in Kris Van Assche’s first campaign for the house in June – is emblazoned on a jacket, sweatshirt and t-shirt.
It’s a new, trendier era at the iconic house.
Kim Jones presents his first campaign for Dior Men following his debut collection earlier this year.
The newly appointed artistic director worked with American photographer Steven Meisel to capture the new masculine allure blended with modern romance. One of the models is Prince Nikolai of Denmark who also walked in the show.
Jones’s first campaign also includes the emblematic BFF character, conceived by New-York-based artist Kaws and wearing a suit to symbolize Christian Dior, echoing the monumental centerpiece constructed for the summer 2019 ruway in Paris.
“I wanted this advertising to reflect the spirit of the summer show and the beauty of Dior,“ said Jones who was previously at Louis Vuitton.
In sequences of soft and sharp shades of pink, this wardrobe unfolds in bright tones, illuminated with yellow, blending the codes of Haute Couture, tailoring and sportswear, reinforcing the dialogue between art and fashion, heritage and daring.
Iconic motifs held dear by the founding couturier are tweaked with a sense of nonchalant humour. The bee, toile de jouy, the Dior oblique canvas, or cannage in laser-cut form, are freely employed, reinvented and re-visited with the subtle mastery of re-appropriation that is one of Kim Jones’ signatures.
The next collection you’ll see from the designer will be the very first Pre-Fall runway show staged in Japan on November 30.
For Fall, we tend to mute our makeup to earthy and rich jewel tones – just as we do with our wardrobe. However, there seems to be a green revolution taking over our social media feeds with the likes of Ashley Graham and Grace Elizabeth sporting emerald or lime hues on their eyes.
On Grace, celebrity makeup artist Hung Vanngo used a minty green eyeshadow that he blended up toward the tip of the brow, and kept the rest of the look natural. For an evening look, take inspiration from Tobi Henney who created the glittering green eyeliner on Graham that she placed above the black feline flick and added a pink gloss on the lips.
Green with envy takes on a whole new meaning, and you can recreate these looks at home with our edit above.

There’s only one coat you need to invest in this season, and it already has a loyal celebrity following.
The Max Mara ‘Teddy’ coat was introduced to the world in 2013, and since then the cosy number with a shearling-like texture has inspired other brands to present their versions of the winter warmer – but the Icon coat still rules supreme. Stylish as it is comfortable, the camel hue is what makes it truly versatile and easy to wear with everything, from jeans to a cocktail dress.
For laid back chic, style with a white pair of jeans and a cashmere sweater in the same caramel tone. The neutral shade of the coat makes it easy to wear with bold floral prints as well as leopard and gingham, but for evening it looks best with a fitted black dress and point-toe boots.
If the voluminous silhouette feels overwhelming, add a wide belt to cinch it in at the waist and pair with heels to balance out the proportions. If you’re new to the bear gang, Max Mara are expanding their range from the classic camel, black and red to pink, grey, leopard print, white, and navy blue options. For petite fashionista’s, you can also their shorter cut that comes in white and camel.

What Cara and Amal proved is that you don’t need a dress to look the part for a special occasion, in fact wearing something other than a frilly gown is by far the best way to make a statement and stand out without outshining the bride. So choose tailored trousers, jumpsuits, skirt suits and caped tops and never worry about bumping into another attendee in the exact same outfit.

Corduroy, aka the retro fabric from the Seventies, is one of Fall’s biggest trends but can be a tricky one to tackle.
Last time this fabric had a revival was 2011, but thanks to brands like Chloe, Saint Laurent and Brunello Cucinelli it’s back in a variety of jewel tones and contemporary silhouettes. For those new to this, start with a structured blazer in copper and navy tones and be amazed at how easily it goes with everything.
For those ready to hit the next level wear corduroy head-to-toe in a form of a suit, but keep the trousers either flared or wide-leg, otherwise pair with a matching mini skirt. For a less tailored approach, look to jumpsuits that can you wear over a knit or a T-shirt. The modern touches come from accessories so think chunky leather belts, gold jewellery, point-toe mules or block heel boots.
Lastly, try incorporating it into your other go-to outfits like the heritage blazer that will look even more regal with a pair boyfriend corduroy trousers, or throw on a logo sweatshirts over cropped chord pants.

For the Fall 2019 Oscar De La Renta bridal collection, the brand introduce demi-couture gowns which will allow for future brides to have a design input in the final result.
The design duo Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim feel that there has been a distance between fashion and the wearer and want to bridge that gap by allowing their clients to contribute to the final look of their wedding dress – after all it is one of the most important occasions.
The designers were in Dubai recently connecting with their clients here and presenting the latest pieces featuring strapless ball gowns with scattered embroideries, dresses with gestural details like a soft bow in the back or a wrap-effect sweetheart bodice, and an ivory gown in cut-out lace fern detailing that has proven to be a favourite. For the Middle East, there were plenty of modest options with full lace sleeves and high necklines.
The youthful touches were seen in the mini one shoulder dress with a long train flowing from the hip, while feathered embellishment added a decadent touch to an otherwise minimal gown.
We imagine that your Fall wardrobe is in pretty good condition, so now let’s look at how easily you can transition your grooming regime.

The Dubai Design District (also known as D3) is expanding at a faster rate than any other area in Dubai into a creative hub of dining, shopping and more.
Eat
Every time team a&e heads into D3, The Lighthouse is our first port of call. Founded by Hashem Montasser and Hany Bassiouny who partnered with Chef Izu Ani, it offers tasty and most importantly healthy Mediterranean dishes.
A morning wouldn’t be right without a cup of coffee and Coffeöl is where it’s at. A privately owned and operated coffee boutique celebrates the joy of a good cuppa and serves the finest single-origin, premium Arabica coffee grown on the mountains of Northern Thailand.
For something a little more quirky, head to Akiba Dori, a foodhall-style indoor alleyway inspired by Akihabara, Tokyo. If your taste buds fancy something a little more Mexican, then the newly opened taco bar El Noctámbulo will be right up your street.
If you’re celebrating a special occasion, then book at table at Chez Charles Restaurant that showcases Michelin-standard dishes that are rooted in French cuisine.
Shop
The urban style of D3 has allowed for numerous showrooms and emerging spaces to open up presenting regional and international brands. Head to Amato for couture-level gowns, F7 for new names in the industry and Montroi for functionable and stylish luggage. One of our top pick are Frame – Middle East’s first ever boutique dedicated to Japanese lifestyle and culture – and All Things Mochi who are always more than happy to invite you to their showroom in Building 9.
Do
Art and design are a big part of the D3 landscape. For example, Citizen E Art Gallery is dedicated to the exhibition and promotion of contemporary art in all its forms. Gallery Ward was founded in 2010 by Abdulaziz Al Abdulkader and Yaser Askar with creative direction by established Egyptian curator Ehab Ellaban. It offers a supportive environment and platform to promote Middle Eastern artists both regionally and internationally, with a focus on Egypt.
