Taking care of your skin during the summer is crucial to keep it healthy and protected from the harsh effects of the sun and heat. Here are five essential skin care tips for the summer.

Wear sunscreen daily

Sunscreen is your best defence against harmful UV rays that can cause sunburn, premature ageing, and skin cancer. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and apply it generously to all exposed skin areas, including your face, neck, ears, and the back of your hands. Reapply every two hours, especially if you’re sweating or swimming.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Summer heat can lead to dehydration, which can also affect your skin. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin and body well-hydrated. Proper hydration helps maintain skin elasticity and overall health, making it less prone to dryness and irritation.

Use lightweight, breathable skincare products

Swap out heavy creams and lotions for lighter, oil-free, and non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores) products during the summer. Look for gel-based moisturisers, hydrating serums, and oil-free sunscreens to prevent your skin from feeling greasy or congested.

Regular exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, allowing your skin to absorb products better and maintain a healthy glow. However, in the summer, it’s essential to use gentle exfoliants, as excessive scrubbing can lead to skin sensitivity. 

Seek shade and wear protective clothing

The sun’s rays are strongest in the middle of the day. If possible, stay in the shade during these peak hours. Additionally, wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that covers your arms and legs can add an extra layer of protection against UV rays.
